:banghead:So,I went to lower my hood and heard a snap..I took a look and one of the two industrial sixed rivets that hold the hood hinges together snapped clean apart..My question is,can I replace it with a bolt and nut of the same size?Maybe even weld it?

Sorry nobody responded man. Good luck with your car. It does sometimes seem like more of an enthusiast board than restoration discussion. Just the way it is with Caddies I guess.

If there's room use a bolt and 2 nuts. Put the first nut on and tighten only enough to simulate the rivet. Then, hold on to the first nut with an open end wrench and install the second nut. Tighten nut #2 against nut #1. This should allow the whole thing to work properly. Known as a jam nut.

I would do as the Ape man suggests and then I would take my time to look for two good tight hinges at a u-pick wrecker. The new hinges should be lubricated and if the hood does not stay up because of the lube, change the springs. Many of us do not believe in lubing hood hinges but the result of dry hinges can be what happened here. This forum can use more simple and easy "get it done" advice for small maintenance problems such as this.:)

I have zero sympathy for this guy. He posted on a Saturday morning, then waited 12 hours before going off on us. Good bye, and good riddance.

Some people just don't get it. Anyway it's here on the board for anyone with enough brains to do an archive search.

Check out his recent posts. Started off announcing his car and got the usual kudos and high-5s. Then posted many technical questions and got no replies. Look for yourself!

The 12-hr thing must've been the last straw.

Mine got jammed when several of us were trying to squeeze into same car. Man, that hurts.
