about to purchase a set of 17" wire rims and vogues for a 1979 coupe deville. the tire size is 235/55/17. will these fits? also any info on backspacing and proper rim size would be appreciated as i intend on replacing the rims, but keeping the tyres. thanks in advance.

I'm not sure but IIRC, Benzilla's '79 had 225s and they were too big. Stock is 215 for the Deville, I think. While 225 is for Fleetwoods. 235 sounds a bit bigger, but they'll probably fit. Would it affect the speed/odometer?

thanks for the reply. im really not concerned about the speed/odometer. i'm not driving that fast anyway and have no plans on ever selling the car.

Yes, 215 is correct stock, 225 will still fit just fine but look too 'baloonish' on stock rims for my taste, 235 will fit, but rub slightly when turning the wheels all the way.

Also, you might have to get standard offset, I think reversed will rub on the rear fenders. Just don't get FWD or it'll look bad and you'll need spacers obviously.

If you have to choose, get reversed. The inside lip of the fender can be ground down slightly if they rub.
