Ouch... that thing was hit hard.

Hate to say it, but that doesnt look like its worth fixing... its way beyond needing a door... the rocker is gone... prob need need a quarter too

On the bright side.. it'll make one hell of a parts car

im going to atempt it anyways, its worth a try i think, these cars are getting harder and harder to come buy,its going to need a jamb for sure and a door. the rocker looks like it got smashed pretty good but its not that bad.

mharker
10-03-07, 09:03 AM
That's too bad. I saw the first pic before reading and was really excited about the car.

I agree I don't think it's economically viable. Do it if you want to save the car but know that it would be less time and money just to find another one like it.

Keep the rims though.... sweet!

Save it.

My_favorite_Brougham
10-03-07, 03:43 PM
I agree, save it. There's only a limited number of these cars on the market anymore. Hows the interior where it was hit? Can you save the door panel? And is the engine bay still OK? I hope the frame isn't bent. Thank heavens it wasn't t-boned at a wheel, then you'd lose the wires and the frame. but there IS still hope for her. Is the car driveable?

if someone t-boned her, then the other party's insurance must have totaled this car. Did you get it from an insurance auction? Probably for just hundred buck, right?

On the bright side, this really does give account to the massiveness of the car. I bet the car that hit her was completely torn to bits.

96BIG_BODY
10-03-07, 05:57 PM
yeah for sure im going to keep it, the weels are for sale also, the door panel is still there perfect just bubbled in cause of the hit,i got for real cheap from the little old lady's son and no the title is not totaled.the frame aint bent neither drove the car 2 hours from were i live, still rides like a caddy:D will post more pics of the progress:cool:any more input is welcome

10-03-07, 06:00 PM
Oh, well if the frame isn't bent, and it wasn't totaled (surprising considering the age and damage) then it should be rebuildable. Hard part will be finding parts, (especially the interior door panel) that match.

96BIG_BODY
10-03-07, 06:21 PM
it didnt get totaled because they never reported it, the door panel is still perfect with no rips, all i need to do is take it off and put it on the new door i got.

Oh no, you're making it a low rider AND giving it a 90s treatment? I thought you said you were SAVING this car! It would have been better off dying with dignity in a junkyard...

Haha, just kidding. I've just never been a fan of the 90s coupe conversions. It's great that you're saving the car though, your pictures make it seem easy! You may have answered this, but where did the wire wheels go?

I think it would look great with an original-themed '90 conversion. Be a little different. I like tasteful lowriders, but there's already soo many '90d lowriders. and less than a handful of faux '90 Brougham coupes.

Yeah, I'd like to see a '90 coupe that's "stock" in appearance. No fancy paint or wheels; just a 2-door Brougham that no one except the keen would notice. Glad to see she's stayin' alive, nonetheless.

Be sure to post pix of the conversion, during and done. I wanna see the process myself, and since you seem to take such detailed photos, I think we'll all be thrilled. I'm glad you're keeping it "simple;" that's how these cars were meant to be. And is that new digi cluster going in her with a full interior swap, too? That's always the nicest! How'd you get it down to zero?? Didn't think digital let you roll back.

^^ That's pretty nice, but I've never been a fan of the "tan" color combos. Unless it was all one color and meant to match. Glad to hear you have more conservative colors in mind. Personally I'd have the top match the car and do something like "diplomat blue" or all black or all white. Also, just a suggestion, keep the stock wire wheels. They're just as flashy and full of spokes as any other, and you'll drop the jaws of both lowriders and "oem only" people.

I dont have a clue about lowriders but it seems like too much time and money to spend doing this. I dont think that car for $300 was a bargain just because I think you could have bought one without the damage for not much more. Thats the business side talking. The upside of course is that you are saving the car from the scrapyard. Regardless, I'm sure its going to turn out nice, keep us posted.

.....is it that really cool one that was on eBay?

Oh, and 96big_body, why not go with 14s? That's still traditional, and I think they look better than 13s on the big cars. 13s are okay on a Cutlass or Regal, but they just look too small (even for a lowrider) on a Cadillac to me. Just my opinion. The light blue sounds clean, but I've seen it before. If it were mine, I'd think about a medium/dark gray metallic with black guts, maybe a black top and possibly a factory style gold kit. Just an idea. Then again, that's been done too...

Actually, I noticed it was on 13s and that's what prompted my comment. Isn't there a weight limit on those little donuts? lol.

Gray on gray would look clean too. Although if I did gray on gray I'd think about doing a black canvas landau. Just to break it up and add more texture. I kinda have a thing for canvas landaus..

If you did the light blue, would you just o the interior in light gray, or what?

Never seen it before, but THATS the kind of lowrider I like! Subtly accenting the car's style while expressing further individuality. The color even looks Cadillac. Those windows are cool! I didn't even know that was possible, then again why not? It's sitting on 14s right? Looks like it from that angle at least.

That quarter-window conversion must have been a pricey job, being completely custom. It is pretty nice! Are you sure it's worth it? Anyways, those blue ones above have the E&G grill; you're not gonna get one of those are you? They're a little oversized, and you're going for a simple look, right. As for the interior, are you doing any custom modifications, other than transferring sedan's parts? Because I think the original d'Elegance is good looking as is, and doesn't need any extra custom upholstery things. Ya know what I mean; I just don't want to see factory interior done away with. ;)

My two cents is keep the '90 grill. See these; they're not quite as gaudy as the fat grills, and look pretty sleek.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/towncar097/Other%20Lacs/wow.jpg

Here's another, but I don't really care for the tan. I think the gray-on-gray with a black FULL canvas top would look great.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/towncar097/Other%20Lacs/yu.jpg

Here's the full black canvas top that I like.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/Cadillac_guy/34_1.jpg

And of course, I really think this is the simplest you could go (if w/o the grill), and I like it best, but it's your car...

My bad for not replying quick! But what I used to remove the body on my Cadillac was my work trucks boom, it was easy! Just make sure that you remove the brace on the body in between the driveline! That is the only thing that I missed, Its not that hard to do all this, I already put it on the new frame, wired it all up and it started right up! i just need to get it painted now! Cant wait til my income tax return gets here! I had a question about that sunroof that you have, did you get the ring that goes around the roof the stainless steel one??? I have a sunroof exactly like that but couldnt get the stainless steel part off!

96BIG_BODY
02-07-08, 01:48 AM
so im guessing you put it on a 90s frame right, so was all the dash wiring easy to do since everythings there, all that computer wiring? No man i got the sunroof how you see it there, am i going to need the ring?

83and91 Fleetwoods
02-09-08, 05:12 PM
Yeah I put it on the 92' frame, everything from the 92 was used except for the body, I think the sunroof does need the ring cause thats what has the 4 bolts that hold the sunroof up, I messed up not taking it off!!!!!!!!!!

I learned alot about sunroofs... since i want, and will put one in my 81 coupe.

The one you have BigBody i belive came from a Lincoln correct? the 44 and 42s. The stock caddy ones were 38s i belive. THe lincoln ones dont have the stainless trim rings around the opening for the astro roofs. Th Cadillacs do. The caddy ones are easier to put in a car, because of that trim ring... You dont have to "flange" the edge. the trim ring is the flange. in mostly all other moonroofs, there is no stainless ring, the roof seals right up into the sheetmetal roof, with a flanged and re-in-foRCED EDGE... What i read is that when you install these 42's and 44's you have to cut the roof section aroudn the hole, and fit it and body work it into your car. Kinda hard to describe... but simple. Your roof doesnt have a trim ring to seal to. It seals to the roof. Its a cleaner look, but way more work. Even more when you dont have a vinyl top. Hence why i am using a factory caddy one. The facorty caddy ones you just have to cut the hole in the roof, and either re-glue or somehow bolt the roof and tray up. I will take some pics tomorrow of the caddy roof i have out of my 90 parts car.

The trim ring way is also how aftermarket roofs are installed.....
AFTERMARKET ROOF.. Cadillac similar. This one has a black trim ring.

After you have to then run the drain tubes, wire it up ect. But thats cake.

Here is a link on Lay It Low... this guy put a factory caddy roof in his coupe... From GM the "PAN" or piece that the whole unit sits in, and that holds it to the roof, its GLUED to the sheetmetal roof of the car. I was amazed. This guy fabricated brackets and bolted it. I want to go that way..

The next page on that thread shows the brackets...

No, drain tubes run down from the sunroof, through the pillars. If they're clogged, they leak.

But I didn't think you're Brougham had a sunroof. It could be just weatherstipping, causing water to trickle down the b-pillar, or come from behind the c-pillar at the trunk.

No moonroof? Then I think I know what it is.

Driver's or passenger side? If passenger, it is lilkely caused by a missing/clogged drain elbow. This elbow is on the firewall and allows condensation to drip out of the cavity where the heat/AC is. If the elbow is missing, air is forced into the hole and forces water to drip into the passenger compartment.

The elbow/hole is right under the heater hoses. If it is missing, you can replace it with a length of rubber tubing and zip tie it down by the frame so it drips on the ground (the stock elbow sort of drips right on the frame).

Stick your hand in the water and smell it, though. If it is coolant, you have a blown heater core. If it is water, then what I said above applies.

I need to check that on the '89. I think I actually have two leaks. When I wash it, or it gets left out in the rain, the only part of the carpet that doesn't get wet is the drivers side rear. The passengers side rear gets about an inch of standing water, and the rest just gets damp. I'll check the drain elbow on the firewall soon, but since the moonroof was dealer installed and not factory, the drain tubes are set up a little differently in the rear, and I can't figure out how you'd gain access to an end to blow air through them. I also wonder if the windshield is leaking. Rick said it was replaced a few years ago, and last summer, when I had my '84 Cutlass's windshield replaced, I had to take it back twice because of sealing issues. Ahh, who knows. I'll get it straightened out.
