: Has anyone broke an 06-07 Rear Diff?

I know the casing is different, and appears to be made of different material. Question is, has anyone granaded an 06-07 rear diff yet? It seems as if my 06-07 diff has been holding up very well, but can it be a ticking time bomb?

BTW, for a quick visual, here is a side by side picture of an 04-05 diff Vs an 06-07 diff. The one on top is the 06-07 diff.

I haven't broken the '06 but it needed the vent tube changed (I believe there is a TSB on this) and it lost nearly a quart of fluid before having it changed. The clutches ended up being damaged (loud...LOUD rubbing noise, kinda like brake pads with no lining on a rotor when turning sharp at very slow speeds, like pulling into a parking space). As a consequence I now have a new set of clutches in the diff but everything else is good.

You sure about that? I thought the 06 had more fins for cooling.

My 06 has significantly more fin area than my 05, by virtual of longer fins. The number of fins may be the same.

You have a 2006 and a 2005?

I haven't grenaded any of my first 3 diffs. #2 and #3 were both '06 models though and they both ended up whining like little beeotches. #4 is not perfectly quiet, but livable.

My brand new diff has developed a whine, it has less than 2k miles on it. Oh well so is life with a V.

No, I have 2005 V with a recently installed 2006 differential so I have seen both. You can also see the additional fin area on the 2006 differential in the pictures in this thread.

Yes, I also noticed that there is more fin area. And that the cooling fins are longer. I also noticed that the 04-05 diff looked like the casting was very light, porus, and cheap. The new diff seems to be made of better material, and of a much better casting.

I have an 05, and just got the rear end replaced. It had the one the bottom in your pic... and now has the newer 06/07 version (upper pic).

The old rear had a whine, but had no idea how bad it was until now. 75 miles on the new rear, and still quiet! :)

200 miles on the 06/07 diff and no whine.. The new rearends didn't happen to come w/ bigger axles do they?

Nope. The big axles/halfshafts cost big bucks and are a PITA to ship across the country.

Your dealer will still warranty yours with maggie and all? Mine won't even talk to me!

Been changing the fluid in my 06-07 diff every oil change. Still quiet as a mouse, no clunks, or anything. I think I may have a winner! lol

Do you have any type of diff support!?!?

Also, do new rearends come w/ new diff mount bushings?? Mine diff is brand new and it still clunks!

Mine's at the dealership right now getting a new diff; I believe its #7 or 8, I've lost track at this point. I just got the BMR Pinion Support Brace in hopes that it would quiet it down or remove the clunk. It helped somewhat, but the clunking and whining is horrible. Hopefully with the new diff AND the pinion support brace, this new diff lasts me longer. *crosses fingers*

Not to piss on your hopes, but uhh, mine still clunks w/ the BMR brace and quick clutch petal press... FN annoying.
