If shifting you transmission is new to you then the AMG autotranscars might be a delight. You mentioned you rode dirt bikes when young. I grew up on dirt bikes and tractors and the auto tranny thing just doesn't do it for me even at 40 years old. Ask to have it for a few hundred miles or a couple of days. That morning commute will have you asking for a triple shot of espresso at Starbucks. :) Good luck and let us know what you choose.

It looks like crap. And it's an import. Not to mention an auto. What is there to think about? You're worrying us, Chef.

Trust me it will take a lot for me to get rid of my V.

Lot's of V owners dig the E55's and I've run them with the supercharged LS6. I love cars period. It is more like spirituality rather than choosing a religion and standing by it because I was brainwashed at an early age an never got to experience others like so many out there haven't.

I'm down with being open to quality, speed, craftmanship, supporting our products, being unique, mod hell and switching out the wifes rocks for CZ's...

It's all good.

If a TT 911 or GT3 or GT2 came along then I'd be seriously hung up with the mod potential is with these little rockets...

May just keep it for my 8 year old son:cool2:

LSx>AMG, cheaper and more plentiful after-market parts
GM/Caddy>MBenz, Domestic beats Uber IMO
CTS-V>C-class, more room, more trunk, more stylish, more exclusive
Chef in a V>Chef in a C, imagine how you'ld feel without the V in your life
You probably have more than a few doubts, or else it would be a done deal.
Go with your heart, your V part of you, a part you don't want to see drive off into the sunset.

The C-class is the most agile and the fastest in the MB line up except going in a straight line. Faster than the SLK and anything bigger except maybe the SLR. Just like the CTS-V is to the STS. All depends on what you plan on using the car for. Looks like your at a cross roads if you want the best in every category. Might do a 911 and a E55/CLS55 combo. You know which your son will want for homecoming/prom. :)

No, it's not garbage, just because it's an import / Mercedes.

And, yeah, it is the entry level Mercedes, but, like someone already mentioned, so is the CTS.

However, the CTS-V, at least for me, is a totally different beast, compared to the CTS (LS small block, plus the more than marginally increased handling prowess certainly assure that). The C55 AMG really doesn't do all that much for me. It's still just a C. Not all that impressive - performance and otherwise. Once you get into the E-/CLS- 55/63 AMGs, those are some fcuken beasts that I wouldn't hesitate to swoop up into my geh-rahj.

Don't get me wrong, the straight line performance in that particular specksemen is definitely something that deserves at least some respect, however, after mashing the throttle for a couple days, it'll get old. Where's your handling? Where's your shifter? Oh, that's right, I left that in the V. And your Vs got more than enough go as it is. Don't give all that up for less. You got the better package, man. No question. Looks? Check (No C-class 'll ever look better than the V, though I do like the new models - buhr nice). Overall performance? Check. It's not even up for discussion. But, you already knew that. Right? Yesiree Bobbito!

Seattle CTS-V
10-02-07, 11:24 AM
The last gen C-class just looks like crap to me. Very boring on the outside and inside is subpar for a MB. Still better than our beloved CTS, but nothing exceptional. This car just screams drag racer...which is fun for about a day or two in an automatic.

You have one of the sweetest V's on this, or any other, forum. It looks amazing, it sounds amazing and the hammer under the hood is amazing. Don't do it Chef - be the anti-Nike!

I must agree with that....and really we are in a souped up entry level caddy :p to me the car are very similar, I like both......stock for stock I'd take the V, but your V to that car....man, thats a tough choice. I love your car chef, but man I've always had a sweet spot for benz styling (my parents always had benz growing up, 'borrowing' the SL 500 was the best part of my parents going out of town.........either way...tough choice completely up to you..I think that benz might fit in a little better in your exotic car meets ;) :hide:

Neither did I- what I said is that it's a "souped up entry level Cadillac", just like an AMG C-Class or an M3. The CTS is Cadillac's entry level car, just like the C-class or 3 Series.

My favorite aspect of my V is the fact that it is a car that everyone I know thinks is very cool without being pretentious. No matter what type of Mercedes you buy, you will always own a "Mercedes" and have that stigma that goes along with it. As silly as it sounds, I would feel uncomfortable pulling up to my local 7-11 with the local gang kids hanging out in front in a Mercedes...but in my V, I seem to get nothing but respect and have no worries!

You built your V from scratch. Keep it for your kid. Some day he can look you up on the forum and see what a baller you were.

It might be nice to see what Chef would do with a Mercedes but please....race version only. No big pimpin'!

JimmyMack
10-31-07, 01:30 AM
That Mercedes is some machine. But why are you asking advise from an obviously biased forum? If you went to a MB forum with that question you would get exactly the opposite reaction. I suspect that what you actually want is a little validation from your friends. That's cool, but you stated that you were a car lover. You're probably getting a little restless with your current setup (as sweet as it is) and looking for a little change. The Kleeman is exotic, unique, and definitely not junk (as some others have stated). Forget what others are saying:

Do you like the styling of a C-55?
Can you afford the maintenance on a Mercedes?
Will you miss the manual transmission?

If you can answer positively to those questions, then I would go for it (providing I can get a satisfactory answer to why he wants to trade straight up for a V. His car has more monetary value). Otherwise, your friends on this forum are doing an excellent job of providing positive support and validation for you V ownership. I guess it must be good to be Jay Leno and not have to make decisions like this. :)

Chef

Good points - I'd change up the look of the benz and take it down to a track look and strip its MB style
Can't afford anything but good advice;)
I'd most likely miss the manual for sureI also look at it as this - A more profitable value in terms of selling vs. the V's value and all my mods that are into it. I may be able to flip this MB for say 60-65k and probably won't see 45k for mine and then go in for an 09 V with extra cash for 800rwhp:D

If I sell my V it would be a great deal as it's all new and it is now is all dialed in....Who would pay 50k ?- first 50k gets her

JimmyMack
10-31-07, 01:53 AM
That's the kicker, Chef. I don't think you'll get 50K for her. Homemade hotrods just don't have the $$ value as tuner shop babes like the Kleeman.
