:bouncy: I bought my 10th Fleetwood Brougham yesterday. However this is the first 5.7 I have driven, let alone owned.
Its a 1990 Brougham d'Elegance. Bought off craigslist. I didnt notice it until it was on for a week.
Lady and her husband bought it brand new, paid cash. husband passed in the 90's She kept driving it. SHe absolutely loves it... but its condition was getting poor so she bought a brand new Black 07 DTS. Said she hates it compared to this 90. When i was on the phone with her she was telling me it was a rust bucket.

I got there, and im not going to lie, it was. Not as bad as i thought it would be. She absolutely LOVED my 90. Actually asked if i would trade for her DTS. Says there is nothing like the ride. She was all over my car.
Anyways i bought it from her after talking to her for about a hour. mostly on the car. But a very nice easy to talk to lady.
$400 took it home.
Wire wheels. 90k miles. 5.7 w/ tow package. d'elegance

Body has definatly seen better days. Rust in the normal spots. Top is dryed out. Wire wheels were caked in brake dust, and i thought there was no hope, i was wrong.. the inside... tha drivers armrest is shot, as is the base of teh drivers seat. Pass has a split in a seam, but its from dried out leather. NO wear on the carpets or floor mats. They look NEW. She cant recall anyone ever sitting in the back seat.
3 years ago she had it painted, thinking she would keep it forever. They did a shitty job. Its already peeling. And she said there wasnt any rust on it at the time. I find that hard to belive.
In the week it was on, antother local Brougham owner looked at it, a guy i actually met and sold parts to. She said she didnt liek him much. I guess it was set for him to buy it and he fell threw. She was asking 750. Since i was such a nice kid and " a real gentleman" $400 drove it home.

So i did.
Im going to make it my winter brougham, and eventually use it as the donor car for my 81 FWB Coupe 90 project... if i 90 it. Motor runs pisser...Like night and day from my 307 with the same miles.

Congrats!! Still looks good, and you've got wires, d'elegance, AND the 5.7!

All for 400 smackers, too. The wires are worth twice that, alone. How do you find such nice cars for such little jingle?? I don't even see that many around, even less for sale; they must be a plethora for you.

I can see alot of rust on there, but she's still a noble beast. A great parts car, it's too bad the front seats don't look like the rear!

There really isnt alot around here. Whenever i see another 90-92 i jump all over the place. They come to me naturally. If i see ANY for sale i stop. Right now i know of 2 more. both NICE, both just sitting. But the widowed woman who own them wont part with them. One is in a barn and looks like its been there for 10 years with the amount of dust.

It definatly has its share of rust... but it purrs like a kitten. Its too bad really.

I personally dont care much for the grille. THough i do like how it looks from the drivers seat. Feels like your driving a cruise ship.

You say the 350 in this one is a lot different than the 307s in the others....do you mean that like the 350 is much more powerful, or like the 350 has been poorly maintained, and runs like ass?

Its like, what the hell was Cadillac thinking even giving the 5.0 option... The 305's i had werent bad, but the 307.... I drive mine daily. I think if i drive this as my winter car, i will never put my white 307 back on the road! This 350 was well maintained.

I have been looking though, for a white 350 thats super clean. I have my eye on one on ebay. No moonroof though. I really want one.

See, I guess this is where we differ. A lot of people would have used Denice (my red '79) as a parts car, but I'm going to fix her up because she runs nice, and even though she has rust, she still feels solid as a tank. Your new Brougham is in much better condition than she was when I found her, and it runs beautifully according to you. I could take that to my paint guy, and my interior guy, and 2k later it would be mint. Hardly something I'd use as a beater.

But that's just me.

Man, what a find!

But.... I may be the resident rust hater.... but, IMO the rust isn't TOO bad... I mean... the rear bumper would need to be replaced, but as for the body, if it would need a paint job anyway... then it wouldn't be too much work for the shop to take care of that rust, it dosn't even look that bad....

How is the underbody? That is what would do it for me... if the underbody is rusty, then use it as parts, but if it is pretty clean underneath with no heavy rust/rot.... then I really can't see using it as parts!

I am starting to like the '90-'92 style more and more.... maybe I should keep my eye out for a 350 d'Elegance... possibly moon roof? It would have to replace the Town Car tho.... I dunno if I really want to do that.

I should just be happy with my '89 :)

The cars a parts car. Rust it poking trew the doors, on the bottom of the doors, deck lid, under the roof line.
It could be fixed.... but its not worth it. Whole paint jobs garbage. A Very cheap paint/ clear was used. Tops shot.
Frame in the rear is in tough shape.

I have been driving it alot and like the 5.7. But theres no hope. Plus i still have a 81 Tripple Black Fleetwood Brougham Coupe d'Elegance to fix up. :)

As far as town cars.... HA. I sold my 96 Signature with 72k miles for my white brougham. Everyone thought i was crazy.
Heater cores, air ride suspension, paint oxidation (black)
And i just sold my 97 Limo, so im Town Car free.

Understandable.... rust alone would turn me away from a car, and I know what you mean..... in that case it sounds like you've got a great drivetrain and a nice interior to work with.... any salvagable exterior chrome is a bonus too.

As for the Town Car... I've had way more then my fair share of work to do on my car, but I leave that to previous owners neglect, and not a poor quality car, cause these cars are very reliable and last a long time. I am able to fix everything myself, thus saving more then a ton of money in the process in exchange for just my time. Like any car, some peole have great luck others have bad luck... I bought my car when it was 11 years old with 93k miles, if I was to sit here and say Ford/Lincoln sucks, that wouldn't be fair, when talking used cars, its all about previous owners care and maintenace. Mine looked super clean inside and out, underbody looks like a new car, not a dent or ding on the body.... but prevoius owner just let everything that broke stockpile.... I'm not going to blame the car for that. Same goes for any vehicle reguardless of who makes it IMO.

They are great cars. 3,4,500k miles on a original driveline. Everycar has their issues. I loved it. It stuck out in a crowd. I dressed it up with all the rocker trim, wheels, painted it myself. Mine had the touring/Towing package. I would have like tripple black wiht a full roof, but this one came along and i scooped it up for cheap $$

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/towncar097/New%20Paint/NewPaint6.jpg

Seeing its condition now would probably upset me. A young kid bought it. What am i saying, im ony 19, but not many kids are as anal about their cars.

But at one point that and its replacement, my white 90 sat next to eachother. My family/ friends thought i was wacked to go 6 years back, and 30k more miles.

Wow! yours looks really sharp! There is something to be said about Cadillacs and Lincolns alike that are black, it is just an awesome color... gives it a Mafia look ;) You painted it yourself?

Everything I've been reading says these cars will go lots and lots of miles, people say my car is barely broken in now with 105k miles (bought with almost 94k) The drivetrains last, but Ford seems to have a decent amount of front end issues, and thats what I've been working out, tho the front end is pretty much all new now, just a couple last things to replace and thats all. Besides that I've done a load of preventative maintenace, as I would any car, I repaced the heater core, twice, the blend door actuator, fixed all the power windows, 3 times (for good now) etc... It's worth it to me.

My car has the stainless steel rocker trim on it too, was on there when I bought it, it was actually the thing that nearly turned me away from the car, but now I like it alot. Like yours, mine dosn't have it on the bumpers, which didn't look good... they looked like patches... but the rockers... looks good. I too added vent visors, after having them on the Isuzu, I really like them alot and all their benifits they offer... only down side is they increase wind noise on the highway.

My Town Car also has the handling/touring package.... makes for a Town Car that can defintly hold its own in the turns... slightly lower gear ratio makes it have a little edge in the performance department too. I like the 16" slotted wheels that came with the upgraded package alot, I could never change them out for anything else, though the chrome wheels you put on yours look sharp too.

<ine is a '96 Signature that thinks shes a Cartier. She had the Tri-coat Ivory pearlescent metallic paint and the two-tone charcoal/ivory interior, and the upgraded wheels because of the touring package... basically, it looks like every '95-'97 Cartier. as they had no other color/wheel options.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e363/InoventionsEast/Lincoln/8-26-07/IMG_0333.jpg

I really enjoy having the Town Car as a daily driver, with the load of modern features and options over the RWD Caddys.... but... I am still proud to own the old Fleetwood Brogham that dosn't give up.... they are just awesome cars too... one thing tho is that the Town Car dosn't have much of a soul... it feels like a machine, while the Cadillacs see, to have a great bit of soul... thought it was just me that felt that way, but others (on the Lincoln site) agreed with that.... for whatever reason, the Town Car dosn't really have a soul.

I guess what I like most about the Town Car, is that it just does everything right. It dosn't accel in any particular area far ahead of other cars, but it dosn't fall short in an area either.... it just does everything I want, and ask it to do in a very well mannered way... one of the most well-rounded cars IMO.
