Please note the oil on the driveway is from other European cars:)
2 door body styles rule. Big crash beams.
2 door 1980 Fleetwood needs a paint job.
2 Door Mercedes W140 needs a wash&wax. To hell with Timberlake! 2 Doors are bringing sexy back! A++ 96Fleetwood 09-30-07, 08:31 PM Nice!
My sister had a '98 CL500 coupe, love those big W140 coupes! She had the 18 inch AMG Monoblocks which make them look nasty and mean! Benzilla 09-30-07, 08:51 PM Cool cars, it's nice to finally see your Fleetwood Coupe. So are you planning on getting it painted? The Ape Man 09-30-07, 09:22 PM Thanks. I have lots of plans but little time. Not easy to find paint shops that do good non-insurance work without charging Reggie Jackson prices.
Biggest problem is that I don't like the color but it is the rarest color used on this model car. GM discontinued Sandstone after 1980. Any color change would include the roof which is in very good shape for 27 years of age.
It took years to find this 2 door Fleetwood. The car has a leather gut and about 62,000 documented original miles. The 500, 4L80e, Megasquirt/port injected manifold and 273 posi all live in the garage awaiting my schedule.
W140 is driven by Mrs. ApeMAN mostly. It replaced the W124. I wish I had the bux and time for the V12. 1990CaddyBrougham 09-30-07, 10:27 PM Nice!!!! Your neghbors must think your crazy... a benze coupe and a "old cadillac" all in the same driveway!
What color would you change it to? I~LUV~Caddys8792 09-30-07, 11:22 PM It was only a matter of time until I found this thread. :D
Here's a picture of the contents of my dream garage. Just a few more years.....

Love your collection Apeman! hueterm 09-30-07, 11:36 PM How long have you had your S Coupe? Any problems w/it? It's my 2nd favorite after the W126...although the W140 is superior in pretty much every way.
A 560SEC would be essentially an expensive toy, but if I were going to ditch my Riv and Concours and go down to 2 vehicles, an S500 coupe would be very high on the list. It would have to handle 15-20K miles/year at minimum though and not be a nightmare.
Mike 1990CaddyBrougham 09-30-07, 11:41 PM IS THAT A L..L....Lincoln? I~LUV~Caddys8792 10-01-07, 12:23 AM Yessir it is! A '72 Mark IV to be exact. Love the Mark IV's in general, wasn't so keen on this particular one. It was a light yellow exterior with a dark green top and dark green leather. :puke:
When I get my classic car, I'm still not sure if I'd rather have the Mark IV/V Lincoln, 68-69 Sedan deVille Hardtop or a '75-'76 deVille/Fleetwood.
Hueterm, I saw a vehicle you'd really like...it was a 560SEC AMG. I'm not sure what year it was, but it was white, and it had the AMG monoblocks and a few AMG badges. Until I saw this car at work, I didn't even know AMG was modifying cars for M-B back then. I can't find any information on them in any of the books I have, so I don't know what AMG did to them, but it was a mighty impressive car.
Let's see if I can dig up some photos from my camera phone and post them here...

And this was my 03 E500 last summer before I sold it....Not usually a chrome rim guy but I loved the Lorinsers on that car.

What color would you change it to?
My neighbors are sure that I'm crazy.
Not sure on color. I had a Black '85 (same car) and it looked great. I had a Cotillion White '81 CDV for years and am partial to that too. Dunno. Mike
I've had the W140 for a little over a year. The wiper transmission puked which is nasty. Wifey mis-judged an open space and clocked the RH mirror. $417.00 later I had another set of mirror guts to put in. No other problems.
I'll report back when something else breaks! A few sites were great help dealing with this car as well as my older W124. That's one reason why I post stuff here for people with cars that I know about. I'm not 100% sure that the desire for a 2 door 126 is out of my blood yet. Maybe someday. The 124 coupes are cute too! hueterm 10-01-07, 10:22 PM http://www.thelastdetail.com/galleria_detailed.php?id=346&nhs=0&make=Mercedes-Benz :worship:
I LUV CADDYS -- Yeah, I was in high school when I saw my first AMG SEC. When I would drive to school, most mornings I would meet a grey/green AMG -- just awesome.
I would love to have an SEC, but I would need a 3 (at minimum) or 4 car garage, and drive too many miles/year right now for a pricey museum piece. And if I got a cherry example, I wouldn't want to dump tons of miles on it.
And yes, the Mark IVs are very cool -- much better than the Mark V.
APE MAN -- how many miles does your W140 have? I love the 2 tone. The Ape Man 10-02-07, 06:21 PM My Benz has 88k if you believe the cluster. I have doubts. Looking on ebay, there are numerous examples of these cars with very low miles. Makes me wonder if someone has a way to set them back. |
