Don't know who did the timeserts.
Bought 98 STS with rod noise, put wrecker's motor in, now after 35K miles, leak down test will rise overflow from #3 cyl, and has bad half case leak.
When I tore down the original, with a braker bar the head bolts weren't the same torque. Looking at the bottom end, just #5 rod bearing is spun. Cap is not blued from seizing either.Thinking someone left chips in when they did the timeserts.
I plan to put the good crank and rods into the original block with new bearings, rod and head bolts, rings, oil plate, Norm's inserts and gaskets.
Original has 85K, other is 130K. I'd much rather spend $6K on my 280Z/LS1 project than this car. Hope to fix the STS for aroung $2K doing the majority of the work myself.
Thanks for any help, Martin
