View Full Version : Yankees choke, Sox win the Division! nyyankeehater 09-29-07, 12:04 AM Sorry, been a long 12 years since they took the Division. Even better when Rivera gives up 3 runs to blow the save. :burp:
Aaaahhhh... I will savor this for at least a couple of hours, then back to reality. There is still a long way to go. Lord Cadillac 09-29-07, 03:14 AM I'm a Yankees fan.. I remember when I used to care whether or not they won or lost. It was fun, but became very unimportant to me at some point. I probably haven't watched a full baseball game since 1989. nyyankeehater 09-29-07, 08:55 AM It is a great rivalry, and the Yankees surprised everyone by getting back in it. This years playoffs will be one of the best in history. Once again there is the chance that there could be a Red Sox/Cubs World Series, which would be a dream. The Yankee/Indians series will be tightly played. It is a great time to start watching again.
I was never a big fan until I moved to New Hampshire in 1978... that is when I found my Red Sox Passion, I drank the Koolaid (that would be a good smilie) and believed! Cheers! Did you say Cubs? Don't say that around Koz.:D Congrats to the Sox, Yanks, Angels. F*** the CLEVELAND INBREEDS!!!
My Tigers went 14-27 between July 23 and September 4th. Then they got it back together but it was too little, too late.
Magglio is going to win the batting title, and that's something.
Wait till next year. Red_October_7000 09-29-07, 10:49 PM Meh.
I'm from New Jersey and a Yankee fan, though I don't realy follow baseball, though now that they made it to the playoffs... anyways, I don't get the hate for the Yankees, I have to practically make a day's walk around my area to actually find a Red Sox fan as opposed to a Yankee Hater... nyyankeehater 09-29-07, 11:40 PM Meh.

First of all, it is nice to see someone else from the NE area on here!!
Second... If you don't follow baseball, you don't understand. Hating the Yankees is part of being a Sox fan and it makes it a lot of fun. I love the verbal and mental battles with the true Yankee fans. After many years of disappointment and heartbreak we finally have a stretch to make us proud, and, one that we can finally brag about. There are many band wagon fans for both the Sox and Yankees. Screw them. Let both teams profit off their ignorance.
This is the best time of year to be a sports fan! thebigjimsho 09-29-07, 11:40 PM Meh.

What I hated was the Yankees Suck! chant during the Red Sox's Championship parade. As far as I'm concerned, the Yankees dynasty is long gone and the Red Sox are long to be the best team in the Division and the AL. Yankees fans can look up to Red Sox nation as the bullies for the foreseeable future... nyyankeehater 09-29-07, 11:51 PM LIAR!

Ya, that wasn't too cool. The whole "Yankee Suck" chant has really fallen off though. Many have grown tired of it. It still goes at the Sox/Yankees games, but not at every game like a few years ago. Perhaps we have matured a bit. Red_October_7000 09-30-07, 02:23 AM One can but hope. When I was in college some of the bumper stickers were pretty nasty -as were the people who put them on their cars. I never understood it, especially when many people had things like "Clemmens Sucks!" bumper stickers... WTF? how come he didn't suck when he played for Boston? Nevermind. nyyankeehater 09-30-07, 09:40 AM One can but hope. When I was in college some of the bumper stickers were pretty nasty -as were the people who put them on their cars. Again, there is a history with Clemens. There are not many Sox fans that like him for the way he left. He was fat, lazy and sloppy at the end of his time here. He went to Toronto for $$, and he has proved throughout his career that that is his sole driving force. Great pitcher, but a true a-hole. This is the best time of year to be a sports fan!
To my friend from the Commonwealth, I must disagree. This time of year runs a close second to the span between Super Bowl Sunday and Masters Sunday.
Super Bowl*
Daytona 500
Pitchers & catchers report/Spring training
March Madness*
Opening Day
Final 4 weekend*
The Masters*
* Jim Nantz has the best job on the planet. Last year he covered all of the events with an asterisk. nyyankeehater 10-01-07, 10:01 PM To my friend from the Commonwealth, I must disagree. This time of year runs a close second to the span between Super Bowl Sunday and Masters Sunday.

#1 I do NOT live in the Peoples Republic of MA... I escaped many years ago after 4 years of time served.... I proudly live in NH where the motto is "Live Free or Die". Part of living here is that you must open your window and show Ma who #1 is as you cross the border from Ma into NH.
#2 pretty close either way.... I'll give it to you as you are in mourning.
#3 Jim Nantz... how cool would that job be?! #1 I do NOT live in the Peoples Republic of MA... I escaped many years ago after 4 years of time served.... My apologies for making an incorrect assumption of your residency. My congratulations on your ESCAPE!!! :highfive:
I'm not mourning too much. Now that it's all over, I'm celebrating a little bit. Winning 88 was a miracle considering Rogers was on the DL 70% of the year, and Bonderman went 1-8 after starting 10-1.
Magglio got the batting title.
Polanco finished 3rd with a .342 average.
Granderson hit .302, got 20+ doubles, 20+ triples, 20+ home runs, and 20+ steals. The last guy to do that was Willie Mays 50 years ago.
Verlander won 18.
Polanco (2B) went the entire season without an error. He's 12 games shy of the record of no errors for an infielder. Garvey holds it now, and he was a damn first baseman. Easiest job in baseball.
Next year is looking really good. 19 weeks until pitchers and catchers report. thebigjimsho 10-02-07, 04:03 PM #1 I do NOT live in the Peoples Republic of MA... Hmmm...
You have tolls. You have Nazis for State Troopers. You vote Democrat now. Your gas is more expensive. You may not have sales tax but your property taxes are nuts. And you don't have Boston.
There may be things about Massachusetts that I'm not proud of. But there's no place I'd rather be...
Oh yeah, and your stoneface fell down. Red_October_7000 10-02-07, 06:30 PM WTF gas is more expensive? I try to time my fillups with my trips to ManchVegas to see my girlfriend to take advantage of the cheap gas. It was 2.47 a couple weeks ago, now it can be had for about 2.52. Tocacco is much, much cheaper in NH, and for a few more weeks I think, you can still smoke in restraunts. I'm pissed the changed this. A cigar after dinner was a big treat! (Although WTF is up with an Outback in Derry, I think, asking me to put it out? What kind of place has a slogan of "No Rules, Just Right" but won't let you smoke a cigar in the bar???). thebigjimsho 10-02-07, 10:05 PM WTF gas is more expensive? Red_October_7000 10-03-07, 04:34 AM I know about that place. It is usually pretty cheap indeed, usually fighting it out with the cheapest in Manch for cheapest around anyplace I need to be. nyyankeehater 10-03-07, 07:53 AM Hmmm...

You are from MA and busting my stones on Tolls? One of the most inbreed and corupt organizations in Ma is the Turnpike Auth. And where are you buying gas? I wait to buy it up here because on average it is $.10 to $.20/gal less. As far as housing... at least I can afford one in NH.
The ONLY reason why this state votes Democratic now is because of the mass exodus from Mass! It is a well known fact that Massachusetts is the only state in the country who's population is declining.
There really are wonderful things about Massachusetts, I love to visit. Boston, the sports (although you need a 2nd mortgage to pay for parking), the bars.... but the politics are just too socalisitc for most. I do not want to get into a battle of the states, there are good and bad in both, I love the fact that there are actually members here from the NE area.

Add Hess 128/111 in Salem. Boston is my favorite city to visit. I could spend two weeks there and never run out of things to do.
I might develop an allergy to lobster and die, but I'd die happy. Stoneage_Caddy 10-03-07, 07:41 PM Im here to disagree with NYYANKEEHATER....
hateing anything about the yankees and NY isnt just something for sox fans ,,,many of my fellow floridians have grown to hate NY ....
my dream is to one day run steibrenner off the road when heres here for spring training ....then tell him "leave florida and take your fans with you " I don't hate the Yankees, but their so-called fans--that's another matter.
They're pretty damned arrogant if you ask me. I think a lot of them are probably also Globetrotters fans. They'll back a winner all day long but if times get tough they switch allegiances.
And on the other hand, we have Cubs fans. People who probably wouldn't be able to handle it if they won the big one. They'd have nothing more to live for. Highline Cady 10-05-07, 02:41 AM Let me start off saying I'm not a Yankee fan. But how exactly did they choke? Everybody was writing them off, ESPN was talking how they should fire Torre. And here it is October, and guess what, surprise the Yankees are in the playoffs. The only NY team that choked was the Mets, now that was a choke for the ages. But it was nice to see Cleveland take game 1 from the Yanks.
For the record, I am a Cubs fan, and it doesn't look so good, but hell it's better than last year and of course if they can't become the first NL team to come back from 0-2 in a 5 game series, there is always next year. nyyankeehater 10-05-07, 08:01 AM Let me start off saying I'm not a Yankee fan. They choked in the 9th inning, losing a 3 run lead, then the game, in extra innings, on the night the Sox clinched the Division, which is when I posted this.
And again last night...
And again tonight..... The Mets are the real chokers.
I'm still pulling for the Cubbies. nyyankeehater 10-05-07, 10:20 AM The Mets are the real chokers.

My dream WS has always been one with the Cubs - Red Sox! I lived north of Chicago as a kid, grew up listening to the Cubs after school (found my true calling though when I moved here). It would be so sweet! Good luck to them! thebigjimsho 10-05-07, 11:12 AM I ended up flying in and out of Chicago, getting a rental car to get to St. Louis for game 4 in '04 since flights there were so exorbitant. Flying back out of Chicago the day after the Sox won it all, I was getting looks all over with my cap on.
No nasty looks, just a lot of envy and some smiles. Knowing how it felt all those years, I felt badly for those Chicagoans. But incredibly proud... nyyankeehater 10-07-07, 08:09 AM My heart goes out to the Cubs fans here. I was really hoping they would make it. I feel your pain. :gah: http://mypickspal.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/cubssuck.jpg AlBundy 10-07-07, 05:12 PM My heart goes out to the Cubs fans here. I was really hoping they would make it.
