I'm looking at Caddy sts for my next car, so my question is... What year or years can I get the 3:42 or taller gears in? The newer design perfered, 04-08 models RWD.

1. The current series STS was introduced in the Fall of 2004 as a 2005 model.
2. In the 2005 and 2006 model years, the 1SG Premium Luxury Performance Group included the 3.42 rear axle. Cadillac's Web site does not discuss rear axle ratios for the 2008 STS. I don't know about 2007s.

I have a 2007 STS with the V6 engine and the performance luxury package and the dealer told me that it has the 3.42 rear axle.

The 2005 V8 AWD only came with 3.23 gears

I have a 2006 RWD 1SF. How do I determine the ratio?

My '05 STS-4 1-SG has 3.42 gears and will pass anything but a gas pump!

I have a 2005 1-SE and 2.73 gears. I had my local dealer print out a vehicle build list to determine all the options etc. that would be the easiest way to check. If all else fails.....raise the vehicle, mark a rear tire and the drive shaft, turn and count the revolutions, this will give you the ratio.

How did you get 3.42 on an 05 STS AWD? I thought the 2005 1-SG model has 3.42 only with RWD and the 1-SG AWD option has 3.23.

It's easy to determine. Look at the RPO label, there is one in the trunk with a list of codes. GU2 = 2.73 ratio, GU5 = 3.23 ratio, GU6 = 3.42 ratio
