Ok so i just bought the entire power trunk close/ release system for my 75 fleetwood. Does anybody know how i would go about how to make it fully automatic like that on a 57' eldorado brougham???

"Fully automatic," what do mean by that? Is that where at the push of a button the trunk lid will actually close itself from any position rather than just the power-assisted closing??

The new Town Car, since '03, has had a fully opening & closing trunk lid by remote, as do many high end German sedans.

The power pull-down once already latched is somewhat interesting, but I've always wished I could open & close it fully just by hitting the button again...both for show, and also because so often I load my arms up and then can't close the lid again.

Wonder if that can be fabbed in to just operate on the signal going to the existing trunk pop solenoid, so when the button is hit, it goes either way. I want to try. For that price, I'm tempted to order one and just play around when I ever have some time.

I am sure you could wire it that way. The remote system that I use for my door actuators is a three channel, and the third channel pops the trunk.

That looks like a nice product, however....i just bought the pull down unit from an actual 75 fleetwood....soooo how can i make my pull down unit fully automatic because iam sure i have to close the trunk almost fully for the pull down unit to work....any ideas????

Sure. Sell that, and buy the thing I posted.

What you have gives one inch of pull. If you want the trunk to open and close, you need an actuator like above.

Yeah, is it not just the typical pull-down, where you still put the lid down and click, then it finishes sucking it down the last inch or so?

Or did they have a full open and close mechanism decades ago? The YouTube link posted wouldn't work.

OH! I never knew that was a OEM feature back then, at least not the closing part...but interesting.

yup...it was, along with a like a dozen fully automatic features...self adjusting front seats to help with exiting/entering the car etc....

I wonder how the mechanism worked? Just something on the forward torsion bar/hinges? Seems to work pretty smoothly, aside from the old car trunk wobble as it closes down.
