I'm noticing a lack of balance controls on my Bose Gold CD head unit. Can I swap it with another Bose head unit that has balance controls?
For whatever reason, my right audio channel is quite a bit more powerful than my left. Same applies to the rears. I'm suspecting the head unit, but maybe its amps too?
it could be th both amps (unlikely they would go simulataniously and usually when they do they either crack or the volume is SOOOO low its almost unable to be herd) or the hu (which in actuallity the hu is really two parts the actual control unit mounted in the dash, and the tuner box located in the back behind the rear seat,
there is a balance control i believe its the volume nob adjustment escussion and the fade is the tuner knob escussion.
try playing with the balance if its still not working from there, we will go into further diagnostics.
There is no balance knob on the face of the unit. I was baffled by this and even read my owners manual and confirmed -- the Bose Gold HU from this era has no balance control.
Are you referring to a balance control elsewhere?
Otherwise, I guess I'll start shopping for aftermarket wires, speakers, and head unit.
i could of SWORN there is an escusson which controls this, it looks like a trim ring around the volume knob
lemme look into this real quick
and fyi swapping out THAT bose system is a pita cuz the acutal hu is located in the trunk as i said
youd need a long harness which actually connects into that box and runs all the wires up to the front allong with the antenna, thats if you plan on keeping any of the bose, if you go the other route you must replace EVERYTHING and rewire EVERYTHING to bypass all of the bose, then you still must buy that harness to run the antenna wires up to the front dash
ok i can see it there your hu does have a fade and balance control
as i said there should be an escussion on the volum nob, if its pointing to that speaker symbol thats shaped like a triangle then its balances turing it towards the L or the R will adjust the balance accordingly
I swear to you, its not there. The manual states that there is no balance control for the Bose Gold system for 1992. Only the standard Delco radio for that year has balance controls.
I dont know why its designed that way. It seems like a silly omission.
If the wiring is the same, I'd be interested in swapping my HU for a later DelcoBose HU that has balance controls. Then I could put off replacing the whole sound system for a while.
no
wow that is really farkin odd
ive never seen a unit like that
however the wiring schm of a bose in a 92 and bose in a 93+ are the exact same
i know my dads 93 ETC with bose had a balance knob
you could if you want to save some bucks just swap the unit with a later one however it may not be a balance issue, the hu, both amps, or the tuner box could have blown channels
quickest and cheapest fix would probably be to swap the unit 1st, then from there if that doesnt fix it, the tuner box is hard to come by, so swapping the amps on your right side to your left side will determine if its an amp issue
if that does prove the amps are not the issue and youve replaced your hu, then its def the tuner box.
From that point you can decide if you wanna replace the whole system to aftermarket or swap the tuner box.
If you go aftermarket as i said earlier keep in mind you actual hu (the tuner box) is located in the trunk so the wire harness you need is a special harness build for 92-95 bose Caddys and Vettes that have a LONG extension that plug in at the trunk and fee up to the front.
The junk yard i was at for ibwd had a 94 SLS with that harness, i was going to grab it but i wasnt sure if anyone would need it.
