Ok just today the transmission light turned on when I was on the highway it has come on one other time since i had the car but it always goes away after restarted and runs very well :hmm: The car runs super and the transmission shifts very chrisp and smooth could it be the Transmission ECM Module? or any other ideas? Bad connection? Dirty connection? anything? Reset car with battery disconnected? Car has 115k but doesnt drive like it. I just don't know what to do, dont really want to spend 900 + in the end on a new transmission, especially if i don't need one :helpless:

My transmission light came on a couple times about a week ago. The transmission went into the "limp" mode and the car was barely driving. I had heard somewhere that it might be due to being low on gas, as my car was at that time. After the fuel up, I did not see it again. Go figure...

the first step is to have a dealer pull the trans codes, you will need a scan tool for this. As you mention, It could something very simple, spend a few $$$ and get the codes....you did not mention any driveability concerns, just the light coming on, correct?

So what did the omega owners tell you about why the light may be coming on? Mine started coming on a few months ago, usually after I drive 25 or more miles. I've tried everything I've read on the posts on here about what it may be, but it still comes on at the moment. Tranny shifts great until the light comes on. I did read that it could be the TCM, so I have a used one that I bought, just haven't put it on yet. So what were you told? I'm always looking for new possibilties.

Did you try the O2 sensor?

I tried this so far no problems i even took the car to the drag strip Here is some info on the product i bought

Lucas Transmission Fix is a non-solvent formulas that stops slip, hesitation and rough shifting in worn transmissions and completely eliminates most seal leaks. Use in any transmission for preventative maintenance.Use also in light duty manual transmissions to increase shifting ease and transmission life.

Here is a testimonial page- http://www.lucasoil.com/testimonials/index.sd?catid=15

Then they replied Hmm....check the fluid level (info available in the maintenance section) and consider a fluid change to before you add an additive.

The only real known failure on the 4L30E box is the front thrust washer disintegrating, pop the small front sump off (needs to be done to change the fluid anyway) and have a look for the remains of a thrust washer. If you find one, fixing it is not to difficult and costly (we have a maintenance guide for this to) and being in the states, you get gearbox parts at good prices to.

best of luck check on www.Omegaowners.com for more info

I tried the Lucas stuff already, no better. Once in a while I think I may have it fixed, then after maybe 50 miles the light comes on again. Still seems to me that if a washer or whatever is damaged, the transmission wouldn't shift normally most of the time. But I've read about that before, it may be the problem. I've also changed my fluid and filter, but I didn't take the smaller front cover off. Maybe I'll try taking it off just to see if I see anything. Also, I know the TCM is in the passenger side floorboard inside the car. Has anyone changed theirs, and is it just plug-and-play, or does it have to be "flashed" or whatever?

Mine would only come on during heavy acceleration at around 70 mph does yours just come on while at a cruise? If so thats strange maybe have a trusted mechanic look at it

Most likely a plug and play i would disconnect battery then conect new tcm and then reconnect- Worth a shot

When mine first started, it was while going around 70 down the interstate, and it was summer and very hot, so i thought that may play a role in it. But the longer it's gone on (it's been probably 6 months now), it comes on pretty much anytime I drive 25 or more miles at a time, no matter the speed. I have learned that I can connect my code scanner up and clear the code while I'm driving, so at least I don't have to stop and restart. But on a trip of any length, once it comes on, it comes on more frequently during that trip. Very annoying. Luckily I have more than one car, so I call it my "local car" now...lol.

wow yea very frustrating im sure what does code scanner read is the problem code?

check for transmission fluid or corrosion in the wire harness connector under
the car.

heres the code meanings stolen from catera owners on yahoo I would check there lol It is alot of info -P0705 = Transmission Rage Switch Circuit
P0706 = Transmission Range Switch Performance
P1743 = TP Signal Invalid
P0743 = Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid Control Circuit
P0748 = Pressure Control Solenoid Control Circuit
P0713 = Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
P1844 = Traction Control Torque Reduction Request Circuit
P0722 = Transmission Output Speed Sensor Circuit

If you didn't already try. Reset the codes and read them again to see what ones
come
back. That way you know if some of them are still part of the problem. It is
very unlikely
that all of these went.

P0706 may have been set if the PRNDL switch was not properly installed. The
switch can
slide by about 5 degrees. It should be placed in about the middle of the range,
but you
could try moving it to a few positions. This still doesn't explain the other
codes.

The transmission range switch is connected to the TCM, reverse lights, flasher
fuse,
ignition switch, starter solenoid, backup lights, and rear view mirror. So,
your problem
does not appear to be directly related to that.

The P1743 means that the TCM received a value from the ECM for the throttle
position but
it was out of range. This signal is sent digitally and does not indicate a
problem with the
TCM.

Make sure you check all your fuses, both under the driver side dash and in the
engine
compartment. Other components can cause unrelated codes to be set.

If you reset the codes and they all come back, I think it is most likely a
problem in the
wiring harness somewhere. The wiring harness can be checked with a multimeter
or a gm
shop can usually check individual cables using the cars computer. Since there
are multiple
problems it might be a good idea to check wiring harness connectors,
particularly the ones
below the car. The outside connectors have weather seals. They have orange
seals that
should be completely inside the connector when properly sealed. They will
spring out
when connector is removed or loose. Make sure the orange seal isn't showing on
the
outside connectors. The outside connectors should also be checked for corrosion
or
liquid inside the connector. There are also some connectors under the driver
side of the
dash near the multifunction relay that could be checked. It would be a good
idea to pick
up a service guide if you are going to try to diagnose electrical problems or
bring it to a
gm shop and ask if they could just do a few tech2 tests for you.

The TCM is at least partially working because it is sending codes to the ECM and
your not
getting a transmission relay failed code or a TCM diagnostics failed code. You
could try
replacing it if you are stumped. Normally different codes are set if the TCM is
the
problem.

Electrical problems are always a nightmare... good luck!

My code is always P1850

PEETYZ

Did you find exactly what that means?

How are you guys gettig the codes?? Are you using OBDII scaner or what?

passionaterage

P1850 is Brake Band Apply Solenoid Circuit. I have no clue what that means...lol. Yes, I get the codes just by plugging in my code scanner, which I bought just for the Catera, even tho I have 6 cars. That should tell you something. Of course, it does help to have it for my other cars now too. It usually pinpoints the problem enough that I can fix it. The one I got is the Equus from Wal-mart, the cheaper one for 69 bucks. Well worth it to have your own scanner.
