-130 mph in the Benz
I hit this last night on 35-E Northbound after getting off the entrance ramp from 77 onto 35-E. I was doing about 80 when I got off that entrance ramp (speed limit is 70 there) and something flew by me and I decided I'd try and catch up. I had the pedal to the floor and about a mile later, I was at about 130. Holy smokes! I've never been past 108 before, so this was a whole new thing...the lines on the road became a blur and I was in total control.... 4500 rpm and she was still climbing. I'd heard that M-B limited these to 130, but I guess not!

-108 mph in the DeVille (hit the governor)

In the 2-3 years I've had the car I may have gotten to 90. Back when I had the Quad 4 Cutlass I put it to the floor one night on the way to a game. Needle only goes to 85 and I had it pointing down so I figure I was doing a buck and change down a not so empty two lane highway. Good times.

Crap...I've got some stories... 150+ in the old Porsche, frequent 120+ in the old Plymouth Sport Fury, 115 in the '63 Mercury Monterey, 85 on a dirt road in the old '63 T-Bird, 136 on cruise control in the '94 STS for four hours straight... And for those who are, without a doubt, going to come on and bitch and moan about unsafe and such, yea, it was. I was young and dumb once. Now I'm just dumb. I'm "sorry" that I lived and had fun...so leave me alone about it. I know now and I knew then that it wasn't "right" but it was FUN and no one got hurt. Don't bother me.

I made it from Las Vegas to Yuba City in six and a half hours once.

The fastest I've seen in the DeVille is 94 behind a Hemi Charger (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-kill-stories-race-videos/107054-91-deville-sees-94-mph-not.html). I think I've taken Betty to at least 90, but there aren't that many opportunities to really open up with either car where I live.

I've noticed some front end lift in Betty at high speed, especially when I had strong headwinds coming back from Eastern Washington last month. So 75 MPH is about the highest I'm comfortable taking her for a steady cruise.

I've been 200+ on a Mr. Turbo ZX-11... had my Dave White Racing Prepped Porsche 993 to 170+, Viper to 160-170, My friends electric blue Lamorghini Diablo to damn near 200 on Aligator Alley, and my beloved Cadillac DTS to a goverened 128mph (almost daily) LOL!

In a boat I've been a passenger in a MTI offshore cat at GPS indicated 155mph... that was probably the the most frightening experience of my life.. and I loved it!

In the '93 Fleetwood, heading off the main road to home, just punched it and hit 91. The same smooth, turbine of a freight train as that car always is.

I think, in my '95 Fleetwood, it was 102.

Really no reason, just accelerating onto the highway from a rest stop, and no one was really around, so I just hit it and kept going. Didn't feel any different there than at half the speed, and still seemed to have some juice left, which was interesting.

Now that I don't have a limiter (or at least didn't with one of the last custom PCM tunes I had), and hi-po tires, the potential for more is there, but I never have the opportunity and don't get much out of it--just worry something will happen, either with the car, or cops, so it's just not common.

Well.. the fastest ever was 146mph in my father's *slightly* modified '96 Impala and I've hit 143mph in my cousin's Grand Cherokee SRT-8 (which was a surreal experience!)

As far as car's I've owned...
Before we traded it in on the 300M I took the wife's Millenia S (I had nothing to do with that purchase!) up to 138mph.
My old '87 302 Cougar (another one of my father's *slight* modifications) got up to 130mph
The 300M topped out at 118mph.
I've taken the Seville to 110mph.
The Regal GS topped out at 108mph

and... oh yeah! I've gotten my Wagoneer up to 87mph!

Although... every now and then I like to take the Seville up to 200... but then I'll switch the dash back from metric... :)

The funny thing was...I was over at Steve's house last night, shootin' the shit with him for a few hours, and we had the same discussion. On the way home, I kinda meandered around Apple Valley for a bit, trying to find where all the million dollar homes are in that area. Don't we have one of these threads about every 18 months?... It's easy to go fast in a car that's built for it - it's takes more balls to do 90 in a Sentra that it does to do 170 in a Diablo...lol

128 in the Eldo
154 in the V-12 E-type
87 (I think...) in the '62 MGA with a plywood floor and plastic side curtains
(We regularly hit 60+ in the various A-H Sprites of my youth...)
72 in the '55 Beetle - mostly downhill, if I remember. Once the road leveled out, the speed fell off dramatically :)

Lemme see...

'98 Regal LS, I think tops out at 108; either way, I hit that mark,
'91 Seville, hit 115 lots o' times,
'89 Deville only read to 85, but I think she was doing triple digits,
'87 Seville with HT4100 hit 85 mph after about an hour, with new 4.5 liter swap (3 years old now), dash starts blinking at 85, but I know she's done a little over 100,
Recently while riding in a friends '84 S-10 with a 406 SBC, we hit 120 mph in about 11 seconds...that was a freakin' thrill!!!

I have been known to crack the 150 mph mark. I have had 120 mph speedos pegged against the 0 mph stop pin. I fixed that with a 140 mph speedo and yes I made sure it would go past the 140 mph mark. That speedo was a law enforcement certified speedo from a cop car. I know it was in my car and it was no longer certified
.
The little Yellow turd I am driving now has been over the 130 mph mark a few dozen times. I am surprised that the a 12 second Northstar would hit 130 mph. Hmm it must be broke. :shhh: I am running a VIN Y engine

I will have to ask how fast my Honda F4 was. I have a loss of memory from it.

Only two times have I actually gone flat out in my cars:

1. '86 Vette, 153 mph, stable at that speed but there was a lot wind noise!

2. '85 Porsche 928, 150+, dont remember exact speed but it was over 150mph and it was both stable and decently quiet at speed.

I may have gone faster in my '88 Mustang GT (very modified) but only had an 85mph speedometer. :bonkers:

'84 Corvette -123 after it got new tires. It just said "C'mon, I've got more" but I didn't have more road. Bone stock these are good to 147 or so.
'98 Buick -110 or 115, the speedo is cranked all the way around to "PARK" at this point and the revs then bounce. I've heard both figures for the fuel cutoff on these cars and I'm honestly not sure.
'88 MR2 -115 taking on a mini-van with a VERY pissed driver; it was still pulling in 3rd (that's top gear in these cars; they have 2 not-too-tall ODs, they can do about 135 but run out of revs at that point) but my buddy literally said "I don't want to die!" so I backed off a bit and the mini-van flew by wobbling like a drunken cow.
Nothing else of note really; an old Ford Rack body is more scary at 70 (at which point the motor is screaming as it's got a 3+L rock crusher) than the 'Vette was at 123... well that wasn't scary at all; just LOUD... if you know those cars you know they are loud at any sort of speed, though.

I got my 99 Malibu LS up to like 118 or something close to 120. My 99 Taurus I got up to 110 before I backed off because it felt and sounded like the front end was gonna fall out. My 89 Lincoln Continental Mark VII I got up to like 100 or something, the speedo stopped after 90 and there was another line past that so I assume it was 100.

Once my 76 DeVille is up and running I'd like to see how far I can push that monstrosity......

'88 Fleetwood I only got to about 95
'94 Ford E-150 I got to 105 - that was some scary sh*t. Top heavy and a squishy suspension from age meant it liked to wobble around a lot.
'02 Chevy 2500 Duramax Diesel I got to 120 before I ran out of road, but still had about 400 rpm to play with before redline. I tell you, that truck never slows down. I was racing my friend's '01 impala with the 3800 and I was beating him by just a smidge (the truck weighs almost 7500 lbs.) all while choking him with a nice cloud of black diesel fumes. :bouncy:

I'm surprised; when I sold those things the advertised top end was either 129 or 131 depending on which rear end you got, and I believe they tached out rather than hit a limiter... What is your rear end and final drive ratio?

Oh, GizmoQ, your flying Delta Darts reminds me of a slightly OT story from my dad's Air Force days of a guy who was about to PCS out of his current station, and as his going away present, he wanted to do a snap-up (For the uninitiated, a J-shaped dive-and-climb at full speed to shoot the plane well above its service ceiling to intercept especially high threats) for real versus at the lower practice altitude. So the controllers (my dad was one) set it up and he did it. When he got up to target altitude they asked him how it was. He didn't respond for a while and finally said when he looked up he saw blackness and wanted to come down. They got him down just fine, but he scared himself real good doing that.
