I think they were abused children. :thepan:

Definitely a misguided need for attention. I suppose we weren't much different back in the 70's when the fad was to jack up the rear ends with airshocks or shackles (hillbilly hangers) and stuff really wide tires in. It really screwed up the handling but who cared.

It's a trend. Thankfully it'll be dead in a few years.

Someone is making alot of money on these ridiculous trends... Neon, lights, Spinners, 30+inch monster wheels, etc etc...

I think I should jump on this cash train and come up with the next stupid trend and make <puts pink to mouth> One Millllion dollars.

Something that has never been done.... Hmmmmmmmm...

I got it!!!

Square wheels!!!!! Obviously no one care about how the car rides, so thats not an issue... And guess what.. you'll never have to set that emergency brake again! I think it a winner!

...Definitely a misguided need for attention...

You're probably not that far from the truth.

Some people, for whatever reason have a constant, dire need for attention. Whether they were somehow neglected either emotionally or physically at some point during their early development - which may have been caused by their parent's own constant need for attention, or perhaps they simply feel inadequate on some level and must therefore do things to always be the center of attention.

I KNOW that is not all people who do this sort of stuff, but I honestly feel it has something to do with this for a good number. It's also those same people who tend to come across as cocky, conceited, asses who put on big shows for the purpose of getting into a girl's pants. They do it for the attention and hopefully some affection. I just think they're sad.

I work for an organization the deals with children/teenagers/young adults that have adjustment/behavioral/personality problems, so I see it all the time. The one's with the worst/cockiest attitudes who constantly do things for attention (whether positive or negative) are the ones who have been neglected/abused in some fashion at some time. We also have an auto/body shop on campus and I shit you not, it are these same kids that bring in magazines or print stuff out, constantly bugging the staff to do "bangin" projects just like this sort of stuff.

I realize I just went way off on a tangent there. I just want to reiterate - I DON'T THINK THIS IS NECESSARILY TRUE FOR EVERYONE WHO DOES THIS SORT OF STUFF.

Maybe it just comes down to the fact that I just don't get it. I can understand (and sometimes enjoy) the fun and desire of performance modifications. My father is an old gear-head and he instilled his passion for cars in me. But like him, I don't understand the desire to stick out like a sore thumb. I don't like attention drawn to myself... I'd much rather just go about my business without too many people bothering me. But when you're modifying and driving around cars like these you're not only asking for attention, but you're guaranteed it. It's pretty hard to keep under the radar if you're driving around in some bright green car with 22" wheels a giant spoiler on the ass-end.

But then again... maybe I have the problem and am just some cynical, anti-social, old bastard...

I agree, not my style at all... but atleast someone actually put their time (and money) into it to make it complete and not just half-@$$ed with rims and nothing else.

Some guy already has a patent on triangular wheels because they eliminate one bump.

Exactly the reason I am putting 22s on mine in a week or so. I am having a hard time getting into my jeans lately. LMAO No really I guess its like the old saying goes to each is own. Just some take that more to the extreme then others.

The way I would want to draw attention to myself and my car is the way Morgan-McClue racing did it some years ago at Daytona. Everybody was using essentially the same exhaust system and the cars had a low piched sound to the exhaust. Morgan-McClure arrived at the track, unloaded, and put their car on the track. Everybody at the track raised their heads simultaneously, looked around, and said, "What the hell is that". The high pitched scream of their car raised the hair on the back of every last neck in the joint and everyone simultaneously realized they'd be wasting their time that year. It took two years for anyone to duplicate their exhaust system and for that period of time they had everything their way at the restrictor plate tracks. Somebody asked Larry McClue if it was a 180 degree system and he smiled and said it's more like a 145 but it sure sounds nice doesn't it. That was the last time that there was a car in a restrictor plate race that was as fast by itself as the rest of the cars in the draft. During one race they got a couple of laps down with a mechanical problem and made a lap up by driving around the rest of the field and that's the last time that's been accomplished.

I don't give a rat's @ss what a slackjawed punk standing on a street corner thinks of my car.
