I have the standard 2005 STS with the v8 and performance package.

One crazy day I opened it up on a straight piece of smooth deserted highway. It got to 140 pretty quick and was running quiet and smooth. I chickened out and slowed down.

I'm wondering how fast it should be capable of. The rate of acceleration was slowing way down as I hit 140 but it was still creeping up and it was no where near the the redline.

Has anyone really pushed it hard?

Your governor is set at 155mph.

well in my 05 V6 i got up 210km/h which is 130.494 mph but i was force to slow down because i was running out of straight road. i would try to go faster another time but in ontario, canada. they have increased the fines and penalties for "street racing" or the new term they came up with "aggressive driving" can cause you to lose your license for 10 years and/or crush your car. for any caught going 50km/h over the posted speed limit.

export V8 is not limited and can go up to 279 km/h (about 173 mph) according to a post I read here

I would think it should be able to do that for sure. What about the V?

Was it one crazy day or one crazy driver???

I have a 05 STS V8 and it says "Limited to 108," when the governer kicks in.

The V is also governor limited to 155 for domestic US models. You just get there quicker. :)

Besides electing him and sending him to Washington, how does one get rid of the "governer"?:annoyed:

The first thing would be to brush up on spelling governor.

In California is spelled Governator. I wonder, does that men California cars go faster?

I have 2005 V8 AWD and had it to 125 when I ran out of room. No speed limiter and it was still pulling hard

My guess is your car came from the factory with S-rated tires. S-rated tires can sustain 112 mph, so Cadillac programmed the powertrain control module for your 108 mph maximum speed. Try fitting higher-speed-rated tires and having your dealer reprogram the PCM accordingly.

The dealer will absolutely laugh at you. They will never reprogram the PCM, too much liability. If you feel you need to go that fast, upgrade tires and attempt it. I have a 2006 STS V8 that came with S rated tires (S rated = max 112 mph.... cadi states speed limited to 108 when I hit 108mph). I now have V rated tires (149mph) and have gone as fast as 120 under engine power. Others have noticed same thing without any attempt at eliminating speed limiter. I have never tried to just cruise along at 120, don't know if car would let me do that, but it does accelerate beyond 108.

How on earth would the PCM know that you changed to V-rated tires? Why on earth would it let you go faster than 108 mph?

What I was trying to say is that it is not limited. Just stupid to go faster than speed rating on tires. I have actually had governor kick in to limit my speed to 112mph at cruise, but when accelerating, can go well beyond that, I suppose acceleration up to point where fuel cuts out will allow you to pass 108, but I would not think it would let me hit 120 on a flat road...
