See this link - http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-catera-cimarron-forum/114011-timing-belt-disaster-well-not-really.html
This was for a 97 catera - i assume same is true for yours - in terms of the 1,2 3 & 4 on the cam wheels.
Make sure the crank is at TDC also.

So I've seen threads about timing belts and what not for earlier models. I have a 2000 126k. Had serpintine belt replaced, and looking to do it again soon... but timing belt? Do the 2000's have one? Because as for as I know it's never been looked at since I've had it. And I don't even know where to find info on purchasing or replacing this since the gm direct parts website doesn't even have it listed. So all of you 2000 and up owners have you had to do this? And how much does it cost?

Rockauto.com has the ACDelco kit (belt tensioner idlers) for $197.79
Notches & marking should be the same
GM Caddy in Canada charge approx $2000 for doing this.
Should be about a 4hr job
Workshop manuals work well
