: Chrome Problem On 1996 Fwb

I have a 1996 Fleetwood Brougham in beautiful condition except for the fact that Cadillac used cheap material for the chrome strips on the front and rear fenders - there are four pieces in all from front to back. The front and rear pieces seem to be plastic covered with a Mylar film. That film has become full of krinkles and looks awful. #1 - Is there a fix other that buying new parts from a dealer? #2 - Are these parts still available from Cadillac? #3 - Is there anyone making a reproduction using real metal like the pieces on the doors?

It is hard to understand why such a fine automobile is botched up by the engineers by using part plastic and part metal.

Thanks for any suggestions.

It happens to all these '93-96 Fleetwoods.

You better snatch up a set, because they have stopped making them.

I have two sets sitting in my storage shed, I just have to find the time to put one on the Fleetwood.

Here are the part numbers:

12529568-r front fender list price 30.00
12529569-l front fender list price 30.00
16617466-r front door list price 55.75
16717467-l front door list price 55.75
16617468-r rear door list price 55.75
16617469-l rear door list price 55.75
12529570-r rear quarter list price 24.70
12529571-l rear quarter list price 24.70

Elias

Are those dealer prices because the ones I find online are more expensive?

Those were the dealer prices a couple years ago.

Thanks Elias for the complete information including part numbers. That will be very helpful and I believe that is the best way to go if I can still get them.

Your most welcome! Go ahead and snatch some up before the dealers run out.

Take care

I just ran them in a GM dealer's parts site I've bought from before, and got these LIST prices now:

12529568-r front fender list price 54.15....discounted 40.58
12529569-l front fender list price 54.15....discounted 40.58
16617466-r front door list price 76.53....discounted 57.37
16717467-l front door list price NOT FOUND
16617468-r rear door list price 79.62....discounted 59.68
16617469-l rear door list price 79.62....discounted 59.68
12529570-r rear quarter list price 53.77....discounted 40.30
12529571-l rear quarter list price 53.77....discounted 40.30

So, they've gone up as expected, and I wonder if the left front door one is now sold out, given how it doesn't come up on more than one site. Not a big deal, as it's not the door pieces that go bad and crinkly, just the fenders.

Both of ours are like this, as is every one I've seen. I see it, but not enough to bother me, and having been told that dealers used to have to replace them when the cars WERE STILL IN WARRANTY, I'm likely not going to even bother, just to have to do it again. But maybe.

Thanks for the input. Can you tell me where you have bought parts and could I buy there also?

Man, you guys are on the ball. Thank you so much for this information. Frankly I had never heard of either one of these suppliers, yet I have been buying Cadillac parts for the past four years. I must live in the dark ages!!

I appreciate the help.

Mechanical parts anymore, I've been going with RMS Auto Parts again and again. They sell all the AC Delco stuff I could ever want, for usually the best prices--and they're helpful.

http://www.rmsautoparts.com

Have also used RockAuto, as Elias mentioned, with great results, just have now started getting better prices on things from RMS.

And for other items, such as trim and such, I go through either Dal (our resident favorite parts guy on the Impala forum) at Van Devere:

http://www.vandevere.com
lockitup@ohio.net (Best point of contact, anytime, especially if you can only describe what you want)
877-448-5451

And, from earlier this year, I also stumbled upon a local dealer who is a big online parts discounter and seller, and have had great success:

Thanks for all the help. I feel sure I can find what I am looking for from one of these suppliers. I will bookmark each one of them to make sure it does not get lost.
