Well I cleaned it up a bit today. I just started the title trail, so until i have one in hand im not going to go crazy on it. I stll also cant get in it. I belive teh locks are frozen. I can slim-jim either side. And the door handle buttons feel lose...

But here is the car, you can see the dust on it from sitting years in a closed garage. It was alot thicker, but i drove about 30 min on the highway with it on the trailer home.

Like I said I wont do much to it till i get the title. I will def. get in it somehow, and when i do change the locks and column.

If i get the title and its a good running car... A 90-92 nose will go on, ban back bumper/ tail lights. Probably the side trim. Whole car I would repaint. OEM wire wheels.... wide whites....

A great winter project... And I can register it as a Antique, so it would be cheaper on insurance also...

That Brougham is one of the best-looking Cadillacs of all time, I'd love to own that vehicle someday. I've seen that one on ebay before, what a gem!

Your new coupe is fabulous! d'Elegance interior and no rust, you've got one of my dream cars. Congrats!

Beautiful...Good luck. You amy think twice about 90'ing it out. Believe me...I thought about doing it to mine but these 80-81 FWB coupe D'elegance's are such a low # production car, it would be worth more in the future unmolested. I love the 90'd out coupes, but I know mine is staying bone stock.

I agree with Wheelman. Don't 90 it. 90'd coupes are a dime a dozen. FWB D'Elegance coupes from 80/81 are SUPER rare. When I was looking for mine, I wanted to do the conversion, as well. Now, I appreciate the car for what it is. It will be complete with factory wires and the correct whitewalls (both of which i have and are waiting to go on the car). The only mods I am going to do are factory Cad options (such as leather wheel, and Astroroof).

This Coupe is so fantastic; it´s classic; DON´T 90 it !!!!!!

Yeah man, leave it as is. 1981 is one of the best looking years of the 80-92 bodystyle, IMO. I love that grille they have, with the tightly checkered pattern.

PROGRESS!!!!!
First thing i did today was look at a set of wire wheels off a 91 Brougham, threw craigslist.....
I stole them. All 4, with caps. No rust. Id say better condition then the beautiful ones on my 90.
I got home with still some light...
I needed to get something open on this Fleetwood, and since i cant stand the square box style grille (cover your eyes chad) i busted it out... unbolted the hood latch, and opened the hood. As luck would have it there is infact a 8-6-4 big blue motor sitting under the hood.... :)

I felt i got far for a hour of tinkering in the dark, so i put a quick wash on my 90. In the mean time my dad was playing with the door to try to open it, i told him he was wasting his time since the door locks were thought to be frozen, 3 professional tow truck drivers couldnt open them...

He did.

Its mad nasty inside......... Pics will come tomorrow... as i try to open the trunk.......
Anyway to pop the trunk wihtout a key? You need one for the switch in the glove box.

Needs a cleaning BADDDDD... as the 8 years of sitting took its toll.
But since i Recondition cars as a living... ill hook this Mafia Staff Car up!

Lets see what tomorrow Brings...

Oh, and as for the 90 clip.... id need to replace the bumper and right fender as is its, and there are a few dents on the hood.... along with the right parking ligt and trim... i have 2 whole 90 noses... So idk, we will see... The grille was going to get swapped no matter what..

I think it's pretty chill right now... and wouldn't change a thing.

You can apply 12 volts to ground and one of the spade terminals on the glove box switch. You might want an assistant to lightly pull up on the trunk if the shocks are weak. If you get the wrong terminal on the switch it will blow a fuse trying to backpower the entire accessory bus. You could apply power through a 3 or 5 amp fuse in order to avoid this problem. Alternately, you can remove the ignition switch from the column and actuate it with a small screwdriver. This is better since you can try the engine.

PROGRESS!!!!

Im in both fornt doors now, and the trunk.

To get in the trunk i took the back seat out and got a really long extension, and unbolted the latch....
No dead bodies.... alot of shit under the seat....
I remember a thread here some time ago, about what we found in our cars when we bought them.... this car redefines that.......

Lamp or vase anyone>????

This car is now deemed the "mac daddy caddy"

This weekend im going to swap the door locks and trunk lock from a 90 parts car, and try to just change the ignition, but if not just swap the whole column.....

I will keep you updated.... Next time though i hope shes running.

Nice. I am still jealous, btw. Good luck with the ignition/column swap. I am curious to see if the 8-6-4 is still connected. Don't forget to get the old gas out and to change the oil...

I have to say: put the right grille back in it! The egg-crate grille is classic Caddy. Looks better than the vertical bars.

Did I mention I am still jealous?

I agree, don't give it the 90s treatment. I've NEVER been fond of the 90-92 look. Those big headlights make the front of the car look small, and the high molding on the sides throws off the proportion of the whole vehicle. The tail lights just look wrong. There's never been another Cadillac in history with that white/red tail light design, and there never will be, because it was ugly. I don't know what they were thinking. The only thing I did like on those years was the digital dash.

Just leave that coupe as it is. It'll be gorgeous, I promise.

No '90 man.....

Get a "water fall" grile ~'89 style and be done :)

V8-6-4.... Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance COUPE.... man, I'd want one of those bad, I've been wanting a V8-6-4 that I would set up to properly work, I just think its an awesome concept.

I just saw the pictures on page 2 actually.

Is the interior BLACK?

I thought it was dark blue.

But if its black, then that is freakin awesome, especially witht he plush pillow-top seats..... man... that needs the late 80's wood grain dah trim then.

Long day.... but to catch you all up.....

I tore the steering column apart...... changed the ignition cylinder... put it back together and tuned the key...... pumped the fuel to the motor and she ran
Its officailly running. Door locks tomorrow.. But it runs...

Still no title... So to me its still deemed a parts car until.

As for the grill. i dont like it. I hate it. a chrome 90 grille will go on for the time being. until i can get a title.

And yep. shes a tripple black dElegance. Mafia Staff Car

Did you check for codes using the climate control? Is the check engine light on?

Also, put a couple of jackstands under the rear axle so you can "drive" it to check to see if the 8-6-4 is connected. Aren't you dying to see if it works?

I'll bring my white 81 on vacation next year to Maine. I'll drive down to meet you so we can take pics with the cars together!

More progress....

Started right up..... backed off the trailer..... drove around, shut it off, turned on, and it wouldnt move. tried it again a few min later and it drove around. Threre is something going on wiht the tranny.it was low on fluid, but full now. the 2 people i mention this to tell me the filter may be clogged, not letting the fluid move easy, or a restriction.

But i can officially say i drove it
Then i changed all the locks..... i think the latches are still a bit sticky. It seems i can turn the key in the door and lock or unlock it, but the knob doenst move much. if i manually do it it moved up and down. The power door lock switches dont work, either side.. Interior lights dont work either.

I put it all back together also... seats and what not. gave it a quick vaccume.

I guess im undiceided now on the 90 swap... It was lookin good on the trailer just 5 min ago when i went out to my car. The grill is still going... i hate it.

I need a title first.

The white/red tail light design was on the 65/66, 67,68 also had white/red tail lights. Thats what they were thinking.

Id have to totally disagree on all that. I love the tail lights, nose, body side mouldings.

They used this body style from 80-89 Same nose, tail lights.... 90-92, is more distinct, fresher i think, since it was for only 3 years. it still has that old rwd caddy look, but not the exact same as the 80's

Its all personal prefernce though. We all have our own likes/ dislikes. I belive mroe people prefer the 90-92 though... hence the reason prices are higher in sales. Thats my opinion though.

Same here....I agree with Wheelman & JayOldSchool....I have an 84 Coupe that I'm bringing back to life....Yeah, it has the HT4100, but I plan on swapping that out with a 500 (hopefully)...Can't complain too much..Got it for $900 cash...runs and interior is super clean....just needs paint and TLC....
Keep it as original as possible.
