: What tools needed to replace idle control motor on N*?

I'm going to replace the Throttle Position Sensor and Idle Control Motor on the N*......what tools do I need to do this, and how easy is it for a "first timer?"

Being used to working on carburetted and mechanical injection, idle control is a different ballgame....

There's no Idle Control Motor anymore. That was an 80's throttle body injection thing. It's IAC Idle Air Control with direct port injection because it's dry plenum.

I've never done one but it can't be difficult, at least no physically. The intake plenum on the N* is pretty easy to work on. NOW if there's any calibration to do I don't know about that. I'm sure there are adjustments for the TPS.

I'm sure someone will chime in.

Hmm....thanks for the info. Partsamerica has "Idle speed motor" for 1994 Eldorado listed as:

GP Sorensen Idle Speed Control Motor
Part Number: 77910504

Is this the right thing, or is there a mistake?

It's right on the plenum, right? Doesn't need any serious dissassembly?

It's probably the IAC misrepresented. Unless in 94 things were very different.

The idle speed motor would be a small device with what looks like a bolt sticking out. That thing, called the plunger, would be the rest for the throttle control on a throttle body engine. Kind of like the idle screw on a carburetor.

The TPS is nothing more than a small sensor with a cam on it that detects the position of the throttle control. I'm not even positive the N* has a TPS. That may all be done through the IAC. That I would not swear to though.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than myself will help us out.

The '94 used the ISC motor mounted on the side of the TB with the plunger activating the throttle linkage. Somewhere around '97 they switch to the IAC valve to control idle speed. It is just a throttle plate bypass air circuit that is controlled by a valve with a plunger on it to control bypass air.

No special tools needed to R & R the ISC motor. Just do a search for the adjustment procedure after installation.

Where is it on the TB though? I can't see anything visible the same shape as the one from Caddillac or the GP Sorenson counterpart (they both look the same).

Do I have to take apart the TB to access it?

I was also surprised to see cadillac used a idle control motor like the older cars from the 80's, so don't feel bad. Mine is starting to make some funky noises after I shut it off and when its cold...
