Hi. I own a 2005 STS V8. Lately, I have heard a little whir or whine while going around some curves. Any ideas? Thanks!

I've had that and it was tire noise.

Old enough to know better but still young enough to not give a damn.

Took it to the dealer today. Turns out something's wrong with the power steerin. I Think they said the fluid is leaking. Took it to the dealer: for two other reasons: 1. when i receive a call on bluetooth, they can hear me, but i can't hear them. only on receiving calls though, if i call them, everthing is fine. 2. the brake pedal makes a squeak.

Smoey847: If your "whir on turning" is at low speed... and your power streering is OK... I had same problem that sounded like the steering shaft was binding (only at low speed)... Dealer scratched his head a couple of days, then found a problem in rack & pinion (steering mechanism)... Dealer replaced rack &/or pinion (warranty of course) and problem was cleared...

That is the only problem (with Blk/Blk, '06 V8 STS4) since bought new in Nov '05... Great car... Only competition was BMW 650, but with no rear leg room, $15k additional and only 2WD for the Bimmer... the STS was my choice.

I have same problem now, but only after a fix to another problem...and who knows, maybe its only coincidence? I had a clear fluid leak from rear portion of car...they told me it was a pinion seal and that a lot of these were having the same issue- after a couple of trys they got the car to stop leaking but now makes that sound and is a lot worse when I am trungin while backing up (kinda fast). I got used to it and no more fluid on the garage floor!

BTW I didn't think a pinion seal would be a big deal, but the dealer told me the job was over $700 if I wasn't under warranty.

Dealer finally got the part in. Taking it in tomorrow. Not really sure what the actual part is, but it's leaking fluid. That's all I really know. They had filled it with fluid last visit, haven't heard it since... Go figure...
