I have a 95 Caprice 9C1 axle up for sale in the classifieds if anyone is looking for one. Great upgrade for you 77-92 D Body owners! 3.08's too, so it would bring you up to the 5000# towing gearing too.

I'm curious...How would the 3:08's work with my 425? I have the stock 2:28's now. Does this axle have a limited slip diff?
Personally, I think they would work very well, 3.08's will be running around 2500 rpm @ 70 mph. Which is right in the middle of the torque band, very near if not at peak torque, which is considered best for mpg. IIRC the 3.08 was the optional towing gearing for 77-84 with the 7L and 6L V8.
No limited slip, but that is an easy upgrade on them, as this is the 8.5", which is a pretty darn good axle. Rated to tow 5000# with this axle and gearing with a THM700 R4/4L60E. The 76 towing package was 7000# on 3.23's with the same axle as you have now, with a 500 Cad (if in a Cadillac) or a 455 Olds (if in a Olds car).
So I personally think that 5000 very safe with the 12" front brakes.
I do have the larger brakes available too, 11.5" x 2.75" from the limo's (drums), which is what was used on the Limo's. They are on my 96 Suburban K1500 axle now that I am taking some parts off of. I am tempted to put them on my Fleetwood.... But for now, I can't afford the down time. I was thinking of the 12" drums on from the 76 cars too. But I have to find the right backing plates for them.
