There's no bulbs, they're EL strips and 99% of the world's supply of them are burnt out. The whole thing has to be replaced and sadly not many replacements are in working condition, nor does anyone make them. If you're feeling adventurous, go to a junkyard and start pulling opera lamps.......

what is an "EL - strip" ???

They are Electroluminescent strips - some type of chemical that lights up with electricity, I think.

Something to that extent, yes. I've been hoping for years some aftermarket company would get a clue and start producing new ones again. I know they'd sell out like insanity.....

Ever try lightning bugs???

Break off tail. Throw a whole bunch of these "lights" in there.

Eat rest of bug with chocolate.

Eastern Kentucky recipe.

When my sister and I got married, we adorned the wedding cake with them.

I Googled every possible thing, and I didn't find much. But here's a mod someone did to a Buick Roadmaster that involves replacing the fixtures with LEDs.

Buick Roadmaster Opera Light Retrofit with LEDs (http://www.bilzweb.com/roadmaster/Roadmaster%20Opera%20Light%20Retrofit.doc) (.doc file) or View as HTML ( ectroluminescent+opera+lights&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us&client=firefox-a)

Here's before:

And at night:

I suggest you open the Word file; there are plenty more photos.

Everything else online is just patents - if you can make anything from them??

An LED retrofit is extremely possible with the OEM opera lights. If you intend to do that though you gotta go into the trunk and jump the 110V amplifier and bring everything back to 12V......
