As some of you here know, my sister and her family moved to Oregon this summer, as my brother-in-law is taking command of the Air Force ROTC detachment at Oregon State University. It's great to have family close by for the first time in years, and now I'll get to know my 3 1/2 year old niece and nephew (twins born the day after Christmas).

One of their favorite movies is Cars, so I watched it with them a couple of weeks ago. Maddie is a little chatterbox and had a running commentary on all of the characters. During the scenes where Tex, the Dinoco sponsor is talking with The King and later with Lightning McQueen, Maddie said, "that car's like your car!" I couldn't believe it, but she recognized the Cadillac styling cues on both Tex and Cruella (from the front, they do look similar). So I told her, "you're absolutely right. Tex is a Cadillac, and my car is a Cadillac, too."

So now, whenever I go over to their house, both Maddie and her brother Austin want to know if I've brought my blue car (Cruella) or my green car (Betty). Austin mostly knows my cars by color, but Maddie knows my blue car is a Cadillac and my green car is named Betty.

They already like cars, planes and trains (especially trains), so it'll be fun sharing my car enthusiasm with them over the next three years.

That is absolutely awesome. If that happened to me I would go all out spoiling my niece, then tell her why many years later. Then again I have a feeling I will spoil my niece and nephew when they arrive on this Earth either way. Cool story!

I've been meaning to watch that movie by the way, was it any good?

Great story! That kid is gifted, lol.

And yes, cars is one of - if not THE best Disney movie I've ever seen. You have to rent it.

lol. Baby steps.

Although after I rented it, I went out and bought it the next day anyway. When it was in theatres I though it looked stupid. Then I saw that it had a Hudson and a Cadillac and thought 'ehh, what the hell' Can't believe I almost missed it!

That is awesome. My friends daughter is like 3 or 4 and she knows my car. Calls it a "Cadiwac Bwome". Its the cutest thing ever.

When my second son was little he was totally into Cads.

We used to drive around (gas was cheaper) and used to take pictures of Cad's and him standing beside them.

A friend made him a 1/8th scale 59 (he loved the fins) out of wood.

Still got it to!

I'm going to have to rent it or something. The Cadillac did catch my eye when I first saw the commercials when it came out, it is remarkably true to reality. The details on it are almost perfect for the year it is portraying.

Now I'll be truly impressed when your niece can tell me the differnence between the 1974 and 1975 Fleetwood Talismans! ;)

In the larger version of the picture, you can make out the "Cadillac" script on the mirrors and the wreath & crest on the hubcaps. According to the Cars Web site, Tex is a '75 Coupe de Ville.

Update: Last weekend, I went into the Kay-Bee Toy Outlet to see what they had for die-cast. Not much selection for 1:18 (should have more around Christmas), but they had a bunch of Cars cars.

After a little digging, I found Tex Dinoco:

So I bought one for me and one for Maddie (got a Mater for Austin). Had lunch with them today and brought the cars. They were very excited, and Maddie immediately told me, "Tex is a Cadillac." That kid has such great taste in cars (and uncles).
