It's finally happening for me as well. After a long, long wait, I officially have an appointment for 9:30 AM this coming Monday, August 6th. I am taking my car to the painter's. Soon I will have the car I have dreamed of having since I was 3 years old, a long black Cadillac. This after 2.5 years of driving a long grey/red oxide/black/purple Cadillac. I'm very excited to say the least, I'll post some before pics now, and when the time comes I'll post the after pics.

The first pic is from a few days before I bought the car, the second is current.

Cool! I've never seen yours before, I like it. So I assume you have wheel covers, a grille, etc to put on afterwards, and that's you're going all out on this.

I can't wait to see it done! post like a million pictures.

BTW, I'm picking mine up tomorrow. :bouncy:

Yes I have everything except the Sedan Deville scripts for the rear fenders, I do have some from an early eighties Sedan Deville that came with the car, but those are the wrong font so I'm not using them. Once it's painted I'll put it all back on. I've already got the interior pretty much finished (with NOS fabric even) so the car is quite close to completion after paint. I'm doing base/clear 2 stage black paint so it should be nice and shiny. The bodywork and paint together will come to about $3600, the interior was about the same cost total. I will post a bunch of pics when it is done don't you worry!

I hope your car ends up being everything you dreamed of when you pick it up, I can't wait to see the pics either!

Great! I was lucky in that the interior in mine had already been mostly restored before I got it, they even had the whole seat wrapped in leather, not just the cushions. That must have been up there. Since I've been checking on mine, the element of surprise isn't there anymore, but I do know what I'm getting. Picture a wet mirror reflecting the sunset - you get the picture.

Yours will look extremely mob after you get it done, you know. For car shows you should throw some plastic sheeting, lyme and a shovel in the trunk, lol.

I know you would accept no less than a perfect mirror shine on yours. It will be magnificent!

I recall you once saying something like, your car was the hitman's car... I don't know what mine would be for, maybe a drive by with two Thompsons out the passenger side, or delivering a bunch of gangsters to an all out assualt. The Don would probably have a Fleetwood so it wouldn't be that. Needless to say I will be cracking open the humidor for a Cuban (They're legal where I live) on the ride home from the painter's. That's a great idea about the shovel and lyme etc. I think I will do that to get some laughs!

Yeah, in an old conversation between 77CDV and I, regarding a comparison between the luxury style of my Phaeton vs. my Brougham. Craig mentioned that the Phaeton might be something like a hitman might drive, while the don gets a ride in the back seat of the Brougham. Basically saying that the Phaeton is more approachable and agile, while the Brougham is more reserved and elegant.

I think it fits, but the cast left by Goodfellas will always influence the way I think of the car. Not in a bad way. But that's kind of how I see it in those terns, I think Scorsese did a great job matching the cars to the characters in that film. In fact, I'm paying tribute to the movie with a little add on I had done for the car after she gets back. You'll see it in the pictures, I think it's pretty cool. But select few will get it.

Sorry I kinda hijacked your thread :p

The best part of Donnie Brasco is the conversation about Devilles and Broughams. "You get the velour? Fugeddaboudit!" lol

Nah Ben's car is a Phaeton, somewhat different although similar looking I suppose, it does have a different trim than most 77-79 Devilles and Broughams.

Donnie Brasco did have some good Cadillac quotes in it. I loved the beginning with the Lincoln versus Cadillac arguement. "Driving a Lincoln is like driving a f***ing waterbed!"

Yeah, Donne Brasco's Coupe DeVille is technically a 1979, but they used a 1977 for the interior shots! And Lefty had that beautiful Fleetwood 'Brom'. Made me sick when they put the lion in the back seat.

By the way, since I'm already posting, I picked up the Phaeton from the paint shop today. It is truly gorgeous (not to oversell it, lol.) I spent the whole even gawking at it and detailing. So I'll post pictures tomorrow evening.

Well my car is painted and I have it back, unfortunately I'm at work right now and we can't take pictures on the premesis, so it will have to wait until I get home. I can have a chance to put more chrome back on anyway so it will look better. :) It is very black and shiny.

Yes, it is a long story, but they tag teamed the car doing long hour days, but only for two days. The car looks great, extremely shiny. They used a urethane black and urethane clear. Everyone at work (where I am right now again) keeps coming into my office telling me how nice it looks. Also I've noticed about 3 times the head turning ability while driving it (which I'm trying to keep to a minimum for now). I was going to post pictures last night but I ended up at the casino with my friends all night, and the weather hasn't been so great anyways. I wish I could just go snap some pics in the parking lot here.
