Congratulations!
He was cute when he was that small, except he has always had disproportionally large hands and feet.
I remember when he was a newborn, I have some photos of some giant hands and feet, with a little baby in the middle :D

We had two names picked out when we found out we were becoming parents- Once was Josh, the other Laura. Your adorable little girl has grown up into a beautiful woman. Congrats!

Tony, HushH - thanks... She's been a true joy over the years. Your own little guys are just as cute as can be. May watching them devlop to maturity be as great a pleasure for the both of you...

And, Tony, you're right - becoming a parent changes everything. I can still vividly recall the telephone call from the Red Cross notifying me that I was a proud papa. I was in Japan & at the time the wife was in Seoul, Korea.

True, but the day will come when I can replace my $100 a month yard service by paying my Son an allowance that is considerably less- Let's see that little fuzzball try and mow my yard.... :D

Ah, here's where Laura has gone amiss - she did own a Porsche Boxster S which I very much enjoyed driving, but traded it in on a Cayenne twin turbo...

Tons of power, handles great for an SUV, but though it's not all that roomy it's really, really, heavy & gets only a tad over 10 - 12 mpg.

I used to tell dead baby jokes when I was a teenager, probably more than most other folks ever have.
They lose their humor after you have kids. There is nothing in my life that brings me more happiness than my child.
I have nothing against a good joke, or even a bad joke really, but how about you go start a dead baby joke thread instead of hijacking a thread where someone wanted to celbrate their love for their infant?

My boy is 16 years old but operates on about an 18 month level. He isn't toilet trained and probably never will be. He knows about 30-50 words and some of them are Eskimo. He can walk with a little help and eats with a little help. We have to dress him. No matter what he does you just can't get mad at him because it isn't his fault. He loves everybody and we love him. He has a great smile and is very happy and playful most of the time although he does get frustrated. He has a lot of neurological problems and has grand mal seizures from time to time. He wasn't wanted by his family or his native tribe so we took on the job and have never regretted it. If you want to find out what kind of person you can be and what you're really made of I suggest you adopt a special needs child and get ready to pleasantly surprise yourself. You'll never do anything in your life more rewarding. Anybody can be a parent with a simple bological act but it takes a real effort to be a dad and mom to a special needs child.

Good for you. My brother has mild cerebral palsy, so I have been dealing with that my whole life. My mom is a friggin saint. I think he started walking around 5 or 6. I remember when she potty trained him around 8 or 9. He is almost 30 now and still has reading and speech therapy every week.

Koz, we're fortunate in that both of our kids are "normal" (by accepted standards, though sometimes I wonder...). Kudos to you, my friend...

Following retirement from Air Force, I worked with the state Adult Education program, which includes Adult Basic Education, & delved quite deeply into the field of special education for special needs kids.

Working with the staff & students of a local organization serving the developmentally delayed in the Montgomery, AL, area for several years, I helped them to develop a portfolio assessment instrument designed to show individual progress not measurable by normal educational tools. Implementation satisfied the feds who had been threatening to cut off special ed's share of ABE funding. This was every bit as meaningful to me as any work I'd done while in the AF & I quickly developed great respect for the staff & families who work & live with these special kids & adults on a day-to-day basis. It tends to make one look at life from an entirely different perspective.

While I quit the state a few years back, I still visit the staff & the special people they serve quite frequently. Here's a little piece I wrote for some of the kids I worked with.

*A Song for Bobbie
Weep not for me now I am born,
weep for thyself alone.
I'm here, I'm me, I'll ever be
as now in basic form.

No wish, no dream,
no prayer will change
what God hath wrought this day.
I'm here, I'm me, I'll ever be,
yet I know not dismay.

So teach me not of spite nor hate,
I have no need of fear.
But love, ah love,
tis love will draw us near.

Weep not for me now I am born,
accept me as I am.
I'm here, I'm me, I'll ever be
your child and love of man.
mb

*and each of the thousands of children born with developmental delays each year...

those things are a life saver aint they?

Unless its one of the ones thats been recalled.
But then again. What about the things that we (old timers i think was the reference) used to play in, on, and or with.
That though could explain why so many of us are no longer cute LOL.

Read that and thought right away bout something Id C/Pd earlier.
Was that moving thing all over again so thought I would look for it and copy the link here for any that havent seen it yet.

Thanx zloski for bring that up again. Cheers to you.

They are cute when sleeping- so much quieter, too :D.

He got his vaccination shots today, so he's rocking the Tweety Bird Band-Aids on the thighs.
