I went up to Duluth MN yesterday afternoon to visit some friends. Beautifiul as usual, but this is the first time in many years I've been there during summer.

So on the way up, I decided "to hell with fuel economy" and set the cruise at 80 instead of the usual 70-72 (took off about 25 minutes off of my trip time!). Those 10 mph really make a huge difference, I got 18.75 mpg instead of the usual 24-25 at 70! lol

On the way up, I spotted this LT1 Roadmaster in the same color combo as mine.

This is where I had the cruise set at. It says 75, but in reality, it's 81-82. I've got the OBD set to P.0.9 which is digital speedo.

Welcome to the great north woods.

I saw this and was like "wtf, why are they building an office park in the middle of nowhere" and then I saw the sign...they're adding a hotel to this casino.

Welcome to Duluth.

Officially my worst highway mileage ever...and what a blast it was! :)

My friends' place. Probably built around the turn of the century...three floors, numerous drunken remodelings done throughout the years..great place for 4 twenty year old guys to live.

My friend Taylor's new aquisition..93 Shadow he bought so he didn't have to use his modded turbo Talon to deliver pizzas...$250 very well spent.

Taylor's bedroom. He really knows how to party, lol.

The hood bulge on the Shadow for the turbo it doesn't have.

He put a CAI on his Shadow...LOL. It goes without saying that he is funniest person I've ever met.

This is Taylor's other car...his Talon, which he refers to as "my pride, which died"...lol. It's got a "baggage", and it's not been driven since March or so says Taylor. 1991 TSi AWD 5 speed manual, he's modded the engine a bit...bigger turbo, headers, CAI, front mount intercooler, etc etc. Not Cadillac stuff. :) Taylor doesn't like to go around bragging about how fast his car is or how many HP it makes at the crank (unlike most ricers lol) but I think it's safe to say that it's a high 13 second car now. I think it's pretty sweet.

OMG! Hardees! There are literally like 4 of these left in MN and I had to pick up some fries because I didn't have the appetite for the "Thickburger" at 2AM lol.

More pics of Lake Superior...we went to the beach this morning, skipped some stones, etc etc.

Maserati we saw parked kinda by the beach. Gorgeous.

1969-73 vintage Imperial Lebaron Coupe I saw parked at some random house. I drove by it, thought it was a New Yorkder, then I read "Imperial" on the back, and turned back to get pics. I<3 these.

The OEM guage cluster out of Taylor's Talon...he had this hung up on the wall of his bedroom lol.

87-88 Brougham I saw parked at an abandoned dealer in Duluth, of course, it was open :D

Went out for lunch at a burrito joint with a communist theme "Burrito Union" and saw this parked in their lot, naturally I had to park directly next to it and take 2-3 pics.....LT1 Fleetwood with a cloth interior

On the way home.

On Friday night, Taylor took my friend Jason and I to see the local "import scene". (I didn't even think the ricers had found Duluth yet lol). They had a legit underground race going down on the outskirts of town, so we went out there and I got some videos. They were all japanese cars, save for a ~95 Mustang GT, ~93 SHO and a turbo 318 Dakota (now THAT was cool!). There was a real cocky SOB in a new Civic Si that got beat by the SHO and then the GT...both times he complained the races were bad because he "missed a shift"....bull shit! lol! Nothing makes me happier than seeing an overly cocky
kid in a new Si get his salad tossed by a 13 year old Ford.

SHO v. Si
UklXo-aNj1k
2G TSi v. 3000GT SL.

Cobra (or perhaps just a GT?) v. that Si.

And the best part: I left there at 8 tonight, but I ran back inside to make sure I didn't leave anything, so as I'm going out to my car to leave, a cop pulls up behind me, gets out and asks me if the Caddy is mine. I tell him it is. He tells me that I'm parked illegally in a handcapped spot (I didn't know...I asked my friends if I could park there and they said it was fine.) So he tells me somebody called to complain and he was gonna give me a ticket. I explain to him what happened, how they told me I could park there and yadda yadda yadda, to make it short, he tells me he should give me a ticket, and right as he's about to write it up, somebody yells out "give the man a ticket" and the cop rolls his eyes, puts his pad away and tells me he's not gonna give me a ticket this time, but if I do it again, he will.

Thank you to who ever yelled that out! :D

Looks like a nice town. I stayed in Lino Lakes / Forest Lake for about a week a couple years ago with a friend. I'm pretty sure that is between the twin cities and Duluth.

Your car has the same peeling paint on the plastic cladding issue as mine did :( no way to stop that, its just gonna get worse.... don't go thru any sort of automatic carwash, and if you wash it manually with a pressure washer, don't point it anywhere near there either.

The speedo usually is off from the OBD speedo, but that dosn't mean the OBD speedo is accurate either... if you know someone that has a GPS, I'd confirm with that.... I don't remember the exacts on mine, but the analog speedo would say 75, the OBD speedo would say 80 and the acutal GPS speed would be 83.... even when I did the digital dash swap, it still woudln't be the same as the OBD speed.

Nice pictures, looks like it was fun :)

Canon Powershot A530 iirc. I don't know much about cameras, but this one gives me what I want. I'll have to double check when I get home.

Where do you see this? The only place I can think of where I have the clearcoat fading is on the plastic molding on the rear bumper, and I don't think that's visible from those pics.

Forest Lake is on the far northern edge of the Twin Cities and Lino Lakes is about 4 miles south of there. They're both about a 35 minute drive from my place (Eagan, far southern edge of the suburbs) and about two hours south of Duluth.

No, not the fading clearcoat, our cars were blessed with 2 paint problems....

the lower plastic cladding on the doors, the paint just woudln't adhere well, fromt he side picture, your left rear door, on the bottom, near the rocker, towards the front of the door, there is a white area.... the plastic behind it is white, looks to me like the paint is peeling away... it started as a small tiny dab on the Coupe and over 2 years just got larger and larger as more of the edges wore away. I had touch up paint that I just covered the white plastic up with, but it still looked like crap.

Hehe, well remember last winter when my car got egged? You told me to use a high pressure sprayer to get it off but dont to get too close to the paint...well I got too close. :o

Mine has the same problem, not helped by the previous owner running into stuff while pulling into the garage lol

Looks like a fun trip, I would love to take a roadtrip tomorrow if possible

Sadly I think thats how mine started too... some road grime on the rocker or something on there... tired blasting away...

Once it starts tho, it wont stop :(

Damn.

On a related note, I just got a call from my friend Taylor regarding his Shadow...he blew the headgaskets. He didn't say what made him think they went bad, but he popped the cap on the radiator and the coolant was bubbling, but I guess the fluids haven't mixed yet, so it's not in it's worst stage. And to top it all off, he uses this car to deliver pizzas, which is the only job he's got, and he can't drive his Talon to deliver pizzas because that's modded up and gets horrible mileage and it's not even driveable now....I think it needs brakes...he's got such terrible luck with cars..I sure hope he doesn't buy another Chrysler product.

I was in a bind. It needed a new intake manifold gasket, and i didnt have the time or experience to rip the top of the engine off. It was puffing out white smoke like nothing ive ever seen. 2 bottles later and she was good to go. She now lives in England. :stirpot:
