Just be patient. I looked for a year for mine, and I ended up getting it local, mint, and cheap. BTW, the Coupe DeVille stopped in 84, but the Fleetwood Brougham coupe (RWD, of course) was still made the first half of 85.

All of my cars were purchased from places between 150miles and 2200miles from my home. Sometimes traveling is worth it, sometimes shipping is a deal too. Options increase and prices drop substantially as you increase the radius you're willing to work within. :)

You should have been here two months ago, I sold my pampered Cotillion White 1983 Coupe DeVille with 49,000 mi. on it for $3,000 to a guy in North Carolina. That would have been perfect for you.

Oh, I see. That's admirable, I'd check eBay. Because also, the farther south you can go to get one, the less rust you'll have to deal with.

but once i find one it will be worth it i mean a 1980 is not to many yrs from being 30 yrs old thats crazy amount of yrs will be fun as the yrs get older and these cars become more and more rare i want to get one that i can hand down to my son someday.....

it takes a while. I wanted a 307 Brougham D'Elegance in black with a red interior. I figured I'd never find one, but i got mine for a steal, and only about 50 miles away.

The coupes are sort of rare. Up until a few months ago I knew an 83 coupe deville for sale in Brockton, MA. The dealer wanted 2500 for it because he really liked it himself, and had already put some work into it. For that matter, 2500 was still too much.

Don't buy a fixer upper. Buy one with no rust, good paint, good interior, and good mechanicals. It will still be cheap. Just be patient. Think about it: if you buy a project for 500-1000, it would take THOUSANDS to get it in the same shape as Ben's car above. Buy one that is good to start with.

There might be some words of wisdom in this song from the Bottlerockets (early '90s):

$1000 Car

Thousand dollar car it ain't worth nothin'
Thousand dollar car it ain't worth a sh*t.
Might as well take your $1000,
and set fire to it.

$1000 car ain't worth a dime,
You lose your $1000 every time.
Oh why did I ever buy,
a $1000 car.

$1000 car is gonna let you down,
More than it's ever gonna get you around.
Replace your gaskets and paint over your rust,
You'll still end up with something that you'll never trust.

$1000 car's life was through,
'bought 50,000 miles 'fore it got to you.
Oh why did I ever buy,
a $1000 car.

A $1000 car ain't even gonna roll,
til you throw at least another thousand in the hole.
Sink your money in it, and there you are
the owner of a 2,000 dollar 1,000 dollar car.
(guitar solo)

If you've only got a $1000.
You ought to just buy a good guitar.
Learn how to play it it'll take you farther,
than any old $1000 car.
If a $1000 car was truly worth a damn,
then why would anybody ever spend ten grand.
Oh why did I ever buy,
a thousand dollar car.

Well, yeah, I can see what you're saying. Like the diamond in the dirt. An elderly owned gem that their import-head kid's can't appreciate. You can find some great cars like that. I got that white Coupe from a '90 year old woman who got a ticket for going 30 on the freeway.

Keep your hopes up. The finds are out there. Best spot is cars with signs in the windows (free advertising), next best is newspaper classified. Worst place is ebay.

Here is my coupe on the day I brought it home last September. Hasn't been washed, nothing. He asked 1200, we settled on 1000. Everything works, AC included. I was one day away from spending more money on a coupe in FL that needed interior, body, and mechanical. Be patient.

I paid $800 for my Brougham. It had 43k original miles on it and was in almost mint condition. My friend inherited it and didnt know what it was(neither did i). SHe let it run out of gas one night and let the battery die. It sat, i offered $800, she bit, and it was mine. A gallon of gas and battery and i was on my way. Come to find out its 1 of 393 ever made. I got lucky. She now has 76k on her and still runs like the day i got her. Only done routine maintenance.

Now, she has seen better days. She needs work. Shes been in two accidents and has been driven hard. She will see bright days again...
