Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is sage green with a matching interior. But it is a Brougham Coupe, not sure if it's a d'Elegance.

OH MY GOD

He has been emailed and upon his responses, i am going to New Mexico. That is all there is to it. If its what it appears to be, i am not letting it slip through my fingers. I cant believe this! 1 of 55! Im almost speachless. And i have the biggest shit-eating grin on my face right now!

This is what i asked him:

"Hello. I am VERY interested in your car if you can please answer a few questions for me. Is the interior green? If so, can you email me pictures of it. Second, is that the original color? If not, was it originally green? Third, is that the original top? If not, was the original light green?

What is the reserve set around?

If you can email me some more detailed pictures, i may just fly out there and buy your car outright. I have been looking for a green '85 Coupe for over 2 years."

IF it turns out this thing is in fact Sage Green, this will probably be a one in a lifetime opportunity. I will do ANYTHING to get it.

The hydraulics would be disposed of first thing. Along with the white top.

Thank you sooooo much Chad! You just made my day! :highfive: :bouncy:

Hey no problem! I'm kinda surprised I beat you to it.

Remember, I'm the man who found Benzilla his dream ride too, that '79 Phaeton. I found it the same way too, browsing through Ebay's Fleetwood section.

I know it doesn't compare but here's an '83 all matching (I think) Sage Coupe. Also only 28K miles. But it MUST be an '85 to qualify right?

We need to give Chad some kind of award or something, he's like a Cadillac pimp!

I hope you kept a Sage Coupe fund available for times like this.

Now, what would you do if I got to it first, then video taped it in a demo derby? hmmm.....

I would hunt you down and burn your Phaeton to ground and piss on the ashes! Heh, j/k.

I do not have a fund, but my Dad realizes the rarity of the car and knows how nuts i am about it. He says that if i do indeed find out that it is a GENUINE '85 Sage Coupe, that he would help me buy it and get it to Florida.

Im still awaiting more details from the seller...

And as for the hydros, i would rock them for a bit,and then take them off and sell them. the car would be restored to new condition, over a LONG period of time.

I kinda dont know what to do with myself right now!

lol, I would not blame you.

It's good that you have people that care enough to acknowledge how much this infamous Fleetwood means to you, and have the cash to show it.

I forgot to check where it is right now, but I can almost guarantee it will be easier than getting one Form California to Tennessee. That was $1,000 alone, if that gives you any idea for yours.

I know how you feel, even though it's basically a big piece of steel sitting hundreds of miles away, it has the ability to make the right full grown man feel giddy as a school girl.

I really hope it all works out. :)

Or in return, you can both team up, pitch your money together and buy me that Mark IV I've always longed for. Preferably in either black or white, with a white/beige/tan leather interior. I like 1976's the most. Or a Bill Blass Edition. :D :D

If i ever get rich, i will get you your Mark IV.

Notice that Coupe has a sunroof? Maybe an original Astroroof!? If it turns out its an original Sage coupe with the factory Astroroof? Damn, it be maybe 1 of a handful. Let alone being 1 of 55.

Deffinately repainted. I know this because the paint code for my Brougham is 8569. The paint code for the Coupe is 8569. So it was once the exact same color as my sedan, which makes me want it even more. Some repainted it a darker green, but it was an original Sage coupe. 1 of 55, and this one has a factory Astroroof, which is even more rare.

Im still negotiating a price with the guy.

Wow, that's cool. Hate the color they painted it, not Sage at all! It needs you. I can't believe you actually found one, let alone with an original moon roof! For all we know, it could be the only one that had one put in.

The only thing is, when we tried to get you to buy one and paint & dye it, you said it has to be authentic... so what about the reproduction arm rests and dash-pad you'll need? And where might you find Sage green carpet?

I'm just making it hard for you now. ;)

Im probably the only person in the world that would ever care enough about this car to restore it. It does need me.

I dont mind replacing all of the arm rests and dash and all that, as long as its an a authentic car to begin with. Thats all i really care about.

He wants wayyy too much for it, but ive been talking to him,and i think im going to be able to talk him down, as im sure he just wants to get rid of it. It barely runs and has no mufflers. It needs a TON of work, but i think its well worth it.

Ha! No, nowhere near that. He was saying he was looking for around $3k, to which i said there is no way ANYONE would pay that for it. Before i saw the interior i said something like $2k. Now that i see the interior, nothing over $1500. I cant even afford that, but i think i can swing it. Im going to haggle him down as far as possible.

Who haggles at a time like this? It's not as if you can just hit up the next used car lot and find a better deal... None the less, I understand money doesn't grow on trees, but this is a one time only opportunity as you know. I'd definitely pay 2k if it's a deal breaker.

I'm a newcomer to caddies, but not a newcomer to restoration work. If the car is solid and a desirable model, you are halfway there.
Mechanicals are probably the easiest items to replace on a vehicle.
Interior is usually a big dollar item for quality work, but usually not a major obstacle.

Your biggest headache would be a vehicle with a rusted out body and frame. Replacing metal, prepping, primer, paintwork, and finding trimwork/emblems, etc on something that is too far gone is what gets a lot of folks into trouble.

Looks like a nice car - if it's solid, I'm pulling for ya.

One additional thought comes to mind - if our homie decides to check caddy forums for some info, he may come across this thread which may wind up making the price skyrocket. As much as I enjoy hearing your progress I would also support seeing this thread deleted until the deal is done!

Good luck!

Weird thing is, is that the only other Sage Brougham ive seen just happens to be a coupe. Youd think i would have come across another sedan first. Seeing as how there were almost 6x as many sedans made.

On a more depressing note, the bastard said he wont go below $3200! That is highway robbery! I said $2500, and i think he may bite. He said i can also sell the hydraulics and spoked rims to get some money back.

Im going to talk to Wells Fargo this week about a loan. My dad said its a possibility. I have a secure job and i make decent money and am not in any debt. So we will see. I also have a friend that has a bit of disposable cash. The one i asked to let me borrow $3200 for Destroyers Fleetwood, but he said $3200 was too much, but later said $1500 wouldve been more realistic. And i think i can pony up the rest of dough.

Wish me luck, i'll keep you all posted. If i let this one get away, i will NEVER forgive myself.

Benzilla
07-16-07, 11:28 PM

I~LUV~Caddys8792
07-16-07, 11:38 PM
Yeah, that's wayyyyy overpriced. I paid $3925 for my '92 almost three years ago, and that thing was like mint when I got it, and it only had 99,098 on it when I got it. I paid $3250 for my Roadmaster, and that was only 9 years old at the time, and that was in pretty good shape, but that had 138,000 on it when I picked it up.

If this car wasn't owned by somebody who "gave a shit", I bet you could get it for $500. ****ing lowrider thinks his shit is gold. Well good luck Jonas, I'm pullin for you.

If I were you I would let the auction run down and prove to him his car is worth much less than he thinks it is. I wouldn't spend more than $1800 on that car no matter how rare the color is. Trust me...I'm over 100 cars deep and I regret about a quarter of them. I know that "gotta have it" feeling, but be patient...I'm sure there is at least one other sage green 85 coupe somewhere in America...and it probably hasn't been hacked up by some lowriding jerkoff.

man.... I know how much you want that car.... cause I am in a similar situation with a Slate Bronze '93 Coupe....

But $3,200? Even $2,500... that is just alot of money.... didn't Destroyers Brougham go for around that much? It was just in so much better shape..... certain wear items on cars are very hard to turn back, or an extensive amount of work and money involved....

Still, if this is the one you want, then this is it.... could always store it and keep looking and if a better one comes along, then sell this one... but the chances of that happening...

96Fleetwood
07-17-07, 07:38 AM
Wow... $2,500?

A bank won't give you a car loan on a car that old for that little money, you will have to ask for a personal loan. Goodluck getting a good interest rate at your age.

I wish you luck!

What im hoping is that he gets desperate when he sees no one is going buy it for such a ridiculous price. I am probably the only person in the world willing to pay anything over $1500 for that car.

We will see what happens with the auction. I am going to ask him what the reserve is. I think he may just be trying to dick me over because, like a fool, i told him how long i had been looking for that car and how much it means to me. Im not trying to make it perfect. Im going to do the brakes, headliner, battery, clean the engine up and put on a Holley air cleaner. Give it a good scrub and sell it.

I wont put more than $300-350 into it.The car cost me $500, i figure i can sell it for $1500, and thats fairly low for the condition its in.

Don't waste your time and money with the Holley air filter (you mean the whole housing, not just the element, right?)

I would never buy a Cadillac with a "performance" air filter assembly. That would tell me the car had been driven hard, and I would keep looking. My advice? Keep it stock, and make it clean. Buyers go nuts for clean cars.

Thanks for the advice Jayoldschool. I was going to do that to make the engine compartment look better, but now i may reconsider. This car also may be sold to a younger person, who may think its cool. I dont know, i'll play it by ear.

Dont forget guys, i did this same thing with my '85 Seville and made a killing. Granted, the Seville was in better shape and had less miles. But i DO know what im getting myself into. I can do everything to it that it needs myself except the headliner.

Finally got my interweb back, so i will post pics tonight.

Glad to offer advice! In my experience selling, five hours of cleaning, waxing, and detailing inside, door jambs, trunk, and engine will go much farther in getting you $$ than mechanical fix ups. Buyers will fall in love with the car because it will be cleaner than anything else they look at, even if the other car is better mechanically or has less mileage.

I wanna see this car! What color is the interior? I'm hoping not a shade of blue to match the outside :(

About the headliner.... you can do that yourself, for about $50, otherwise it is like $400+

I did it in my Oldsmobile, which turned out OK.... cause the partical board thing got a little messed up trying to wrestle the thing out of the car...

Then I replaced it on my Isuzu, which was a breeze, and that has a sun roof.... on a 4-door car its more of a pain to get out (gotta recline the seats etc...) but it can still be done... same results, save alot of money.

Im really just thinking about just forgetting Chad ever made this thread. Im really trying to be realistic here. I want the car so bad. But i am in no position to even think about trying to restore something right now.

It needs so much, it would take well over $10k to get it where i would want it.

I also have this '88 i just got that i have to put my spare time and effort into. I mean it doesnt need much, but still, its a time consumer. And i wont have it ready to be sold for probably a month.

This coupe came along at a bad time. If he sells it, im going to ask him to ask the buyer if its ok if i can get there information, so maybe one day i can make them an offer, or they can let me know if their selling it.

Ive also been needing a second car to get to and from work in. My '85 Brougham isnt cutting it, and she is a project in and of herself. I have big plans for that car, and me getting the coupe ios just going to delay that even more. I have my heart set on an '86-'87 1st gen CRX SI.

The Sage coupe is great, and thank you Chad for looking for it, but i may just have to let her go. At least for now. I cant have 3 cars right now. I cant afford it.

I still have to get my '88 fixed up and ready to sell. I need a second car for work. I think im going to get a CRX with the money i get from the '88. Then after that i have to start thinking about my '85. So much car stuff to deal with, so little money. I hate to say it, but getting that coupe would just be a bad move right now. I could probably find a way to buy it and get it over here, but I have to think like an adult here.

Dammit.

Was that sage green interior offered with other cars as well?

I mean if you are set on a sage green Coupe...

then, IMO it's alot more easy to paint a car then change the color of an interior, when you don't have a donor car etc...

Maybe in a few years you would find a nice Coupe with sage green interior, and reguardless of the origanal exterior color, you could get it painted sage green.

1 of 55, this may very well be the last time you get a chance to ever get one of these cars, but at the same time you need to live, don't want to get yourself stuck in a position financially.

He has to move in what, 2 months? That means he has to sell this car.... he isn't going to et $2,500 for it on ebay, and I would be a bit shocked if he gets $1,500 for it on ebay too.... basically... maybe wait until right when he needs it sold and offer $1,000.... he'd have to bite.

Anyway.... why not use the '88 Brougham as your daily driver? How far do you drive to work? The only thing I can see as a difference in cost would be gas... but you've already got the car, you paid a fair price for it, and it is a very reliable car, so you may as well use it... plus, the Brougham is a whole lot safer then a CRX.... something to think about if the worst was to happen.

Dont like it. Dont want it. I bought it for the sole purpose of making money off it.

I used to have an '86 CRX SI and i want another one. I hate driving automatics. I need something smaller, more fun, gets better mileage.

I love first gen CRX's almost as much as i love '80's Broughams.

I'd love to drop a B18 from a GSR into a 1st gen CRX. The things only weight 1900 lbs stock. Mine weighed less because it was pretty much gutted, The SI's have 91hp stock, but they haul serious ass. Way faster than my '85 N/A 300ZX.

GSR motors are like 180hp stock. Drop that into one(its VERY cheap) and do some other mods and there isnt many thngs out there than can run with it. I would get the quietest performance exhaust possible. Nothing worse than a loud 4cyl.

Here i go dreaming again... I need to get my priorities straight.

Here i go dreaming again... I need to get my priorities straight.Hmmm, dont let cars get you down. You need to start approaching them as transport devices and leave emotion behind so you can focus on making some real money. Later on, when you have more money and a better way of making a living, slowly get back into it.

My first love is imports. Mazda and Nissan specifically. The 1st gen CRX above anything. I dont know, i just really like them. I stumbled into Cadillac. Though i was kind of raised around them.

Im confused right now.

Oh and thanks for the advice Destroyer.

Oh and thanks for the advice Destroyer.I'm almost 36 bro and still not back into it like I want to be. I've been keeping it cool for such a long time with the car thing that I'm ready to explode. Last year or so really threw me for a loop (real estate market) but I'm doing much better now and hope to find the time to get on the track sometime soon. I find it fascinating that an import guy like yourself got so attached to Cadillacs. You really cant get more different as far as cars go.

Yeah, a day doesnt go by that i dont hear someone bitching about the way the Florida real estate market is piss poor right now. Or was. I guess its getting better.

Like i said, i stumbled into Cadillacs, and im damn glad i did. It made me appreciate American cars. Especially GM.

It seems like if you get the CRX, then it is going to be another project car.

You don't want 2 project cars when you are tight on cash and don't have the place to fix up cars, cause then you are gonna want a 3rd car to use as your daily driver while the 2 project cars get slowly fixed up.

My advice would be... you like Nissans? Get a basic mid-late 90's Sentra, with a manual transmission. It may not be the flashiest thing, but it would get you back in a Nissan, and the 5spd would kill your manual transmission crave, plus, a manual transmission makes 4banger econo cars fun to drive.

Once you get that car, treat it as a regular, daily driver car... don't mod it up or anything.... maybe throw in a cd player or something, but just drive it and enjoy the savings on gas and the fact that your project car is sitting at home istead of daily driver duty.

Thats about the best advice I could give in that situation... and I am in a similar situation, when I had my 3 origanal cars, I badly wanted a manual trans, I wanted a truck.... well what I really wanted was a Jeep, but they were too much money.

My Isuzu filled that gap... it is a 5spd (main reason why I got it) and I absolutly really enjoy driving it. Its a truck, abit a 2wd truck, I can still do trucky things... and its about as close to a Jeep as you can get, without actually getting a Jeep... and, in my case... it suits me far better then a similar year Jeep would, or atleast it did moreso when I first got it.

I did some mods to it, and replaced so many things on it, mainly because at the time I worked at Advance and got 20% off everything, so I went crazy and fixed everything cause I figued I'd have it a long time.

Despite me getting newer and nicer cars... its still my daily driver, and it will be for quite a long time. I've pretty much stopped the modding, and I just fix things if they break (hardly ever) and clean things up on it, otherwise the last 3 entires in the log book have been nothing but oil changes... a far cry from the first 3 oil changes....

But, I think that is something you should look at, If you really like the CRX, thats awesome, but it would be a 2nd project car, and you really can't find a nice one in good shape anymore, atleast for a decent price... but I bet there are alot of Sentras out there.

Heck you like Mazda.... what about a 90's 626? Personally I like them, and i heard they have one of the slickest shifting 5spds on a car like that.... and last time I checked (I did) they were a fair price..... I'd serisouly consider a 4cyl/5spd 90's 626.... probably get one for a good price, and it would keep ya busy and happy. Most of all, it would let you enjoy the Caddy for what it really has to offer, the automatic, all the luxury and comfort etc..... but then you'd also enjoy your daily driver for what it has to offer too... gas mileage, manual trans etc...

That's really good advice Rick. Yeah, a 20 year old CRX wouldn't be the best daily driver anymore due to the age. '90 Sentras are decent little cars. My brother has a 1996 GXE with the 1.6L and 4 speed auto...not a fun car, but its cheap to own and reliable. And I know how much you love MX-6's....I bet you could find one with the 2.0 I-4 and five speed for cheap!

The day i get a 4cyl MX-6 is the day i chop off my bits a pieces and become a woman.

My Dad would never let me hear the end of it. He has the V6 MX-6. Its probably one of the nicest ones left in the country. Every one i see is beat to hell. The car has been babied. Its got 125k, but youd never know it. He had promised me the car if i completed military school, but i got kicked out like a dumbass. I still want it, and i still may be able to get it. Its not his daily driver, its actually been sitting in his garage for 4 months, hasnt driven it at all. It still has the original clutch in it, and it shows, i think thats why he hasnt been driving it.

Any car i get will be a project. Also, i will NOT make payments on a car. I cant and i wont. My budget is whatever i get for the '88 when im done( dad thinks its just a master cylinder thats gone bad on it)The CRX can be a daily driver and a project too.

Get ready to laugh: I want a 1st gen CRX and i want to paint it hot pink. Yes, i know gay. I just think it would be sick to have a hot pink CRX with a B18 that would eat Mustangs for lunch. I get off on that kind of stuff.

LOL. That friend of mine with the TSi almost bought a CRX with that GS-R motor in it, but then that deal fell apart and he got the Talon. He wanted that CR-X for the same reason you want one.

Too bad you aren't likely to get the Coupe, but good on you for getting your priorities straight. I know I see old Cads all the time I think about buying, then I give my head a shake and try to stop myself (it is hard).

Sorry to hear you may have to forego the coupe, Tim, but I do understand the pressures on you. It's just sad the guy gave you such a jerking around, but then, considering what he did to the car and what he still expected to get for it, we all knew he wasn't the brightest star in the firmament. Don't worry, though, the right car will come around when you least expect. I for one would like to see that hot pink CRX, and you may well get it, after the 88 is flipped, of course. Good luck.

You guys buy daily drivers to be projects.... I buy daily drivers to make $$$

Just sold my '86 Pontiac Parisienne wagon for $2,100 and might have a buyer for my recently aquired '93 Caprice Wagon
