Took delivery of my SRX yesterday. Though the dealer promised that I could order factory installed XM satellite radio with the UltraView roof, my car was no different from all of the others before me- so no XM with the Ultraview.
I really miss my XM, and have read the forums for guidance about how to add an aftermarket XM converter. I'd like to avoid the XM Roady approach. I've never been impressed with FM modulation as a source for XM.
I really like the XM Commander and think that I could integrate it nicely with the SRX interior.
Here are my thoughts:
1) Has anyone used the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) audio inputs to connnect XM ? I could just plug in the outputs from the XM into the RSE audio jacks. There is a "Source" button on that RSE unit (made by Panasonic) so I think that I could select XM as my audio choice from the front seat audio controls. (Select DVD, then use the RSE inputs to provide the audio.)
2) How about an XM antenna? The UltraView takes up most of the roof, and I suspect that Cadillac won't give you XM with the UltraView is because of this. I've thought about a driver's side glass mounted antenna. I'd put it in the same spot as the OnStar antenna, only on the driver's side.
If anyone has tried this, or has any other ideas about how we "UltraViewers" can integrate XM, please respond here.
