I really don't know what has got into the older owners here. But the are dropping like flies. Something needs to change and change quick. I don't work for GM but im willing to go and picket them. They need to get that new V on the road quick. Who is with me. We can't keep loosing members of our families :tisk: . Tony, Jim, Randy, CIWS, Florian, Chef and Jerry AKA lawfive and all the others that we don't hear from often and the rest of you guys. Life around here will not be the same if you guys leave on us. I understand we need to new blood and they are not making many more new ones. But you guys keep things on the up and up. So keep your cars until the new ones come out and then we can recycle and get some new blood!
Us old-time SHO guys always talk about the early days of the SHO. I was a very young buyer back in '93. I bought a used '92 when $14G was cheap. These cars get old and many just aren't going to keep them forever. I'm a sentimental chap that probably keeps cars too long anyway, although I'm hoping to keep the miles down on my V and hold it for a long time. Not to sell it for any appreicable value, but to own an original.
Now, SHO's in the best condition are rare. And most can be had for $1-5G. I've seen the SHO crowd go from doctors and lawyers to hard working blue-collar types now to kids in high school looking for their first car.
We see that now with the V. You can get some great Vs for under $30G. Pretty soon it will be common to see Vs with around 50,000 miles and in decent shape go for under $20G. Then you'll start to see the younger ones buy in. Not to say that's bad, thats just how it is. Pretty soon this forum will have 1st Gen V owners mixed with 2nd Gen.
We'll get new guys who will be major assets to this forum as we lose others. Kinda like life in general, I guess.
im not trying to say anyone is better then anyone else. I named a few and said to all the others I missed. Will someone please look at the video! damn you guys. lol
Over the past 24 years I've owned about that same number of different vehicles. There have been some overlap in those with the average staying time of about 1.5 years. The V has been in the garage for over 3 years which is a personal record. Fact of life, there's always something newer and better and it won't be a '09 V.
So what am I supposed to get out of the video? Don't make Santa cry? :xcry:
:word: I got way too much cash dumped into my V to unload it. Call me in another 50 years, it will still be in my driveway/garage.
Some V owners probably hold onto their cars for a couple years, and move on to another out of habit, not necessarily dislike for the V.
I have a personal attachment to my V, no one else drives it but my tech (no valets!!!), and I love it, regardless of its shortcomings.
Well, I'm the youngster here at 58. I still have a list of unfulfilled mods PLUS a wishlist (stuff that probably won't happen). I ain't goin' nowhere (that I know of). Sorry, don't get the vid.

Sheesh-h!! 58 and just starting an affair with Maggie. :highfive:
Your wife is so-o-o tolerant. I just casually hinted at the idea and my wife walked out of the room.
I'm 55 and have had the V since 04. It's a garage queen except for a couple track days each summer. Fair number of mods but not over the top.
When I first found this forum and bought the V, the big concern was that the car was only being bought by old farts with 50G to plunk down.
Now there's concern about that crowd moving on. As BJ said, some are looking into the next big thing. Some are bored. Some just never expected that this car takes more maintenance than a Chevy or Ford. Whatever.
If you want to see OLD, look at your local Corvette Club. But if you go back 25-30 years, those clubs were chock full of modders and racers. Now they just organize cruises to the local gambling casinos.
I'll climb back under my rock now. But be glad that the forum evolves and new faces and ideas come in.
Amazing how what goes around comes around

My wife just bought me an '07 Corvette. Life is good. Now there are three things I like about her. The 04V is "Her Car!"
We have been a member of the local Corvette club for years. Geriatric is the word. However! Having the Vette just since March, whenever I participate in a CRCC event, I get harassed about not having any mods installed. Exhaust systems from Borla, Corsa, and others I have never heard of. Maggie lives there. Custom hoods with heat extracters, scoops, really trip my trigger.
These "elders" are a standard to live by.:highfive:
I think by "elder", Gene meant the original crowd of owners and modders, not "old aged".
Nobody's going to complain if the only people left with V's are younger, but losing guys like WW who have contributed so much to the community is something we all feel.
At 60 years of age and having my V since April of '04, I guess I qualify on both counts.
Like StealthV, I've had many, many cars over the years. Average holding period of less than 2 years. Now I've had my V for well over 3 years--and since I just put a Maggie on it a couple of months ago, I'm going to hang onto it.
While I do have a C6 Z06, in many ways I enjoy the V more. In fact, I'm guessing that I'll get rid of the Z06 long before I get rid of the V.
The funny thing is that in some ways owning the V is a love/hate relationship. The V has been in the shop more than any car I've ever owned (compared to, for example, a Lexus LS 400 I had which had no warranty work in 3 years). So if I didn't really love this car when it runs right, it would have been gone a long time ago.
Most people just don't hold onto a car for 4-5 years, for any multitude of reasons. So for me it's no big suprise to see some of the "old timers" selling or trading their Vs. The majority will, some will not for several years, and then some very small percentage will keep the car. Out of all of the vehicles I have bought in my life I do not still own any of them. The longest one I had for 6.5 years. This car has been out for over 3 years now. Certainly time for the tree to lose some leaves.
My car is staying where it is until my kids are older--I've got it just about where I want it in terms of mods, largely due to the folks on this forum. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, for what that's worth.
And Florian, I know why you're hanging onto yours now that your rear is fixed...whole different car, isn't it?
My V now handles like a porsche and launches like a dragster.....this new rear REALLY makes the car a completely different beast. It feels like my 69 Mustang Mach1 in terms of straight line acceleration. It just squats, front end comes up and BOOM, off we go. no hop, no bounce, just plants.....wow.:worship::worship::highfive:
I got a call from a customer today wanting to buy a used CTS-V (I have none at the moment). The thought briefly crossed my mind to mention mine, but then I came to my senses- nothing short of financial disaster could make me sell my V. I'm fortunate enough to not have the Service horror stories that some do since I am the Dealer, so that may play a part in my happiness.
THis is my first real performance car. I wouldlove to hold onto it and have my grad kids saying, "THat's Grandpa's car." or somethingto that effect. After hearingthat there are guys out there that always change their cars, yet this one has hung around. Bang for the buck its super sweet. Yeah its a little tempermental, maybe a little rushed, but I always was told that with American cars expect them to require tweaking. Well anyway with all that said you're not getting rid of me unless I total it.
I will be getting the 'cure' soon, but with $100+K spent this year on tuition, orthodontists, relative loans and the IRS, and another $20+K spent on the C6 since January, my budgeting has taken a stiff kick to the nutz, both nutz. By year's end I will get it done, as well as Stoker in the C6 and turn the boost up to 14psi--hopefully I will have a two 9-second street cars, as I have plans to put a 150-250 shot into the V. My approach to keeping a car for a long time is simple, just spend five times more than you could ever sell it for,,,
Man...what is up with these guys that don't want to drive their "V"s. Like Dad always said if you want to keep it new...park it. Then what fun would that be? I love driving that car...and I said that I'd never buy a manual tranny again. Yeah I'm putting mileage on the V but why have it and just leave it in the garage? Mazda zoom zoom my ass....V has VAROOOM VAROOOM yeah baby that rocks!!!!!:blurock:
Here's what I'm dreading...the older V's getting "affordable" for the ricer crowd. Imagining future posts about appearance mods makes me cringe. (22" wheels, chrome pillars, lambo doors, etc.) urb will go berserk trying to keep the peace, ahaha. :alchi:
I'll get banned within a month when that starts happening. :bigroll:
