View Full Version : Do I want a V? slk230mb 07-04-07, 04:14 PM I just graduate college (May) and started a new job. I'm earning pretty good money for a 21 year old and I have my sights on a new car. I currently have a 2002 Escalade and when I get the next one my family is going to use it as the extra car so I'll have it when I need it. I'd like something RWD and V8. I like the V a lot, but I have little experience with a manual transmission. I'd be looking used and wouldn't want to spend more than 30k. What would you guys do? Any suggestions or comments? Also, do you think used Vs will be in the low 30s in August/September of this year? My advice would be to go and test drive the car, that should answer your first question. As to the second question I would think there's a fair chance you should be about to find one for about 30K used. Mallet-V 07-04-07, 04:32 PM At your age, I'd personally get a sports car. You still have the Escalade if you needed the room. You would be able to get a very nice C5 Z06 for that price. urbanski 07-04-07, 04:35 PM yes and yes to your questions. on ebay 04-05s are barely reaching 30K heavymetals 07-04-07, 04:36 PM I agree.
GO DRIVE ONE, THEN TRY TO CONVINCE YOURSELF YOU DON'T WANT IT! RightTurn 07-04-07, 05:21 PM Yes. :yup: 04CTSVFLA 07-04-07, 05:32 PM Im 22, in my last year of school, and couldnt be happier. (well a 408 and a lil spray would make me happier) rand49er 07-04-07, 06:59 PM This is a joke, right? slk230mb 07-04-07, 07:25 PM At your age, I'd personally get a sports car. Corvette's do nothing for me.
This is a joke, right?
Is you asking if this is a joke a joke? urbanski 07-04-07, 07:27 PM the only joke would be slk saying he'd buy my car for 45K I agree.

make sure your finances are in order, cause if you test drive it, you are NOT NOT NOT walking away from it. the cadillac kid 07-04-07, 07:56 PM http://www.cadillacforums.com/cadillac-classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2743&sort=1&cat=23&page=1

A lot of our local events were cancelled due to rain as well.
Also spent several months in Beruit and the local fireworks show is kinda dull. ;) the cadillac kid 07-04-07, 08:34 PM haha well hats off :patriot:
guess i'm in good company :) heavymetals 07-04-07, 08:40 PM Also spend several months in Beruit and the local fireworks show is kinda dull. ;)
I remember reading about Beriut being the "Garden City" of the middle east.
Sure didn't take long to turn it into dangerous, sandy compost. I remember reading about Beriut being the "Garden City" of the middle east.

When I was in the Nav, I spoke with Chiefs who said it used to be one of the best and prettiest port visits in the Med, before the civil war. When I was there(83-84) it was a major combat zone. the cadillac kid 07-04-07, 08:54 PM I remember reading about Beriut being the "Garden City" of the middle east.

...new jersey... I think fireworks are a waste of money, and most people dont understand their true meaning to boot...
Back on topic; you will love the V so much, that if you buy it as a toy like I did, likely, it is going to rapidly evolve into a daily driver like it is for me! I havent driven my Maxima in almost 2 weeks. And I am thinking of selling it to buy a set of snow tires/wheels for the V. Civardi 07-06-07, 07:52 PM I had to put in my .02 here. I do not own a V yet. My wife is out of nursing school in 8 months 22 days. When she is out I get my V. I looked at and drove BMWs M5, M3, Audi S4, and E55 AMG all 04-05 models. Once I drove the V that was it for me. All the others are nice refined cars for more $$$. The V is a monster and what you get and what you can do to it for the price makes it a bargain. This car was the one that put a big grin on my face at how raw but refined it can be.
I would also like to point out that this is the most active and friendly board I have been on. The BMW, Audi, and Mercedes boards are good but some of them have an elitist feel to them. Not here by any means. Everything I read has been very helpful in every way. Not so with the others. heavymetals 07-06-07, 07:59 PM The MB board is run by schmos. TrazzNJ 07-06-07, 09:02 PM Yes!!! You need to have one!! There is no better all around car, period, exclamation point. z06bigbird 07-08-07, 07:51 PM If you cannot find CTS V in your price range, CTS with 3.6 isn't bad. Vettes are neat. Solstice and Saturn converts are cute, but extremely small. No handling there. Good cars, but I would avoid them.
STS is fast. DTS is fast and has plenty of room.
Lots of good GM choices.
Convince your wife she wants a Vette with an auto trans. Let her pick color, as most colors are good on that car. Whatever you buy, get one with GMPP. Remember that you need 3 months and 3000 miles left on former owner's GMPP to transfer it over. Solstice and Saturn converts are cute, but extremely small. No handling there. Good cars, but I would avoid them.
Solstice doesnt handle well? I know they are no Miata or MR2, but I heard they handle pretty well with decent feedback. I was hoping to pick up a used Solstice in a couple years after their resale (hopefully) comes down. Yes you want a V and I have one for sale:

Maybe next time, I can stop and play jimbo1320 07-09-07, 07:15 PM Yes, mine. Corsa, volant, stealth tune, hotchkis, B&M, billet peddles and knobs, imbroiderd mats. 18000. Saving for a 09. I really like this car.

I must admit that I know nothing about the Solstice except that it is real small inside. In regard to handling, that was a supposition on my part, as I have not driven one. CTS certainly handles well.
You are probably talking to the wrong guy, anyway. My true love is a Fleecewood Brougham. I had to settle for a Sedan de Ville for the last several years. We now have a CTS, sport and lux package, but I miss the SDV. Mechanically, the CTS does fine, although some have rear end problems. My service writer and a mechanic told me not to worry unless I hear chattering when I back up. Srvc mgr also likes CTS.

I know all about big boats. My very first car:

79 Olds Regency. Thing was a monster. 403 cu in. You could camp out in the trunk. Shame the body was rusting off the frame. Cause the drivetrain was still solid at over 100k miles. | |
