My '01 STS has a WebastoHollandia aftermarket power moonroof. No leaks, works great. Automatically returns to closed when you remove the key. Very well-integrated. I didn't put it in; the Cadillac dealer from whom I bought the car did, before I purchased it.

We also have a 2007 Town & Country van with a factory moonroof and I find no real functional differences (regarding OE vs. aftermarket). The moonroof in the STS is larger in area and is tinted darker than the OE roof in the Chrysler.

Do a Google search for American Sunroof Corp. The home page provides an E mail address.

Right, the 700 series is what I have:

They offer them with rain sensors, but mine doesn't have that option.

Here are a bunch of photos of mine:

It has always been the opinion of me and many others on this forum that aftermarket sunroofs not only tend to leak (most of them anyway) but they also detract from the value of the car as a hole needs to be cut in the roof to put them in obviously. In addition to that, non-suroof cars generally do not have the same structural roof support that sunroof equipped ones do.

I would recommend against this unless the dealer does it so at least it can be traced back to them. The dealer installed units are also the most difficult to tell they are not original. Ive just had too many friends with aftermarket sunroof disasters.

Many shops (as did the one who installed mine) offer a lifetime warranty on their work, and the roof itself often has a 5 or 10 year warranty -- longer than an OE sunroof has. I've also found that aftermarket roofs offer larger sizes and more functionality than OE roofs do. If they leak, it's either due to a cheap brand or poor workmanship, which is separate from the notion of wanting to install one. Whether or not they detract from the value of the car...I guess you'd have to care about resale value if that were the case. Many people tend to buy cars to keep, so by the time they're ready to sell one, any extra depreciation is moot by that point. And there are no "points off" in any of the major car value publications for aftermarket roofs.

I say, if you want one, get one! It's a lot easier than trying to find a car with one, especially if it's an older model. You'll likely find that you'll like the aftermarket roof better than the OE one anyway. Do your research about brands and local installers and don't look back. You'll love it.

What does it usually cost for the sunroof and install?
jadcock...The sunroof looks really nice and integrated in your car. I like it.

An aftermarket moon/sun roof, is not only a bad idea from the usability standpoint, but also from safety and resale standpoints. I worked at car dealerships for about 3 years, and no customer I ever met was happy with theirs. Every tech i worked with said it was a horrible idea, and it really is. Cars that have factory roofs have added parts, for torsional rigidity, for safety, and a lot of other reasons. I have yet to meet someone who had a GOOD story about their aftermarket roof. I have heard stories of leaking, warping the roof of the vehicle, having the top of the vehicle collapse, especially in rollover situations.

Just something to think about.

Thanks, I love it. I may not own another car without one. It was in the car when I bought it, so I don't know how much it cost.
