Hello everyone,
I am new to these forums. I have a 99 Seville SLS and for about 4.5 years I have loved it! Now I am so frustrated with it I feel like this guy-> :banghead: .

About 6 mos. ago my car began to cut off (die) at various unpredictable times. The only consistent thing is that it has not died while I was pressing the accelerator. I am coasting, braking, or turning when it dies and I loose all control of the vehicle. It will crank back up immediately, but it has put me in some very dangerous situations.

Has anyone run into this problem? I have taken it to the dealership 4 times. I just picked it up this morning (after it was "fixed"), and it died on me twice before I made it the 7 miles to work. I was in tears by the time I got in.

So far I have replaced the IAC Solenoid, the ignition switch, the main computer, the crank position sensors, and the spark plug wires. I am definitely not a mechanic, but it seems like an electrical problem to me. They hooked up a vehicle data recorder to the steering wheel and for 3 months I drove with that on and it NEVER died. That sounds like a short circuit somewhere.

Anyway, sorry for the lengthy post, but does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks a bunch,
Mary Kathryn

I've been reading several of the other threads (you guys are pretty funny :D )and I wonder if my problem could be a dirty throttle body. Others mentioned the same type symptoms and cleaning the throttle body worked.

Does that sound plausable?

Is this a "guys-only" forum? :rolleyes2

What about the cam sensors, have those been replaced yet?

And no this isnt a guys-only forum :)

Crank sensors are also notorious for this problem. If a sensor was to go out completely, you can put the car to the floor while cranking it and it will bypass the crank signal. Good luck and keep us posted:coolgleam

hey there i`m having the same problem with a 1990 eldorado barritz.i replced the ign module 2 yrs ago when it started doing this. the problem went away then but its back agin however i`m thinking a fuel pump relay is possible as well.both will intermitently go out and restart.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

They have replaced the crankshaft position sensors, but not the cam sensors. They say it isn't a problem with the fuel pump because it cranks right back up. I've been taking it to the dealership and thankfully they aren't charging me for their "trial and error" approach to this.

I'll let ya'll know when I finally get it fixed!

Just in case anyone is interested, Cadillac finally determined what was wrong with my '99 Seville. It was the EGR valve. It was the electrical part of it, so it had to be replaced rather than just cleaned.

This fixed the stalling problem. :)

My car is really running great now. The new EGR valve seems to have also fixed the surging the car would do sometimes when idling. It also fixed this shaking problem I was having when driving around 69-73 mph. It drives as smooth as it is supposed to now!

Thanks for all your help,
Mary Kathryn
