Has anyone here ever had a set of those "vent visors" that you put on the top of the window frame, and they direct airflow into the car and keep out rain?
For the Broughams, they are stainless steel and look rather sharp in form, never mind their function. They're only about thirty bucks for a set, but JC Whitney says there may be drilling required. I'm not in the mood to start fillin' my door full of holes, but if they were temporary, I wouldn't mind having a set. Anyone ever own a set, or know if they require drilling to install? Thanks!
Well when I was poking around the boneyard one day, I saw a Brougham with a set, and decided to snatch them. However, power windows worked against me, since I was un able to open them. There are these small little j-hooks... about three per window and they hold the visor on. They fit up into the top of the frame and stick out a bit. But the visor itself fits between the metal part of the window and the rubber lip - its does not touch the glass. That's why I was able to remove the set with windows shut. So mine fit rather snug anyway. They just popped in. Then again, they're not fastened down.
But to answer your question, there is no drilling, or holes required. At least from what I've seen on other cars. BTW, was that a factory option, or dealer or what?
I posted a thread on this about 8 months ago. I bought mine through a catalog for $50. I put them on myself in about 45 mintues. First you pull down the window weatherstripping, than you clip in the J hooks. The visors clip right into the J hooks which are held in place by the weatherstripping.
At JC Whitney, they unfortunately don't list the 70 deville as being one of the cars the vents will fit. Perhaps another dealer? I don't know of any in particular...
My 90 came with a factory set, and i had a set in one of my parts cars. No drilling for the factory ones. Like others said about 3 or 4 stainless clips that hold em on.
And you need the windows down to do it to nab em in the junkyard... or a large rock.
