alright heres the scoop. I've been reading here for a while and trying to pick things up. I'm thinking that installing aftermarket head unit, amps, and speakers is quite a chore. first off, do i have to retain the factory radio in the mix somewhere? second, where do i find a mounting kit for a DIN receiver? is it the same as a deville? ALso, are the speakers a different impedance that will only work with bose systems? i curently have a premier deh-p850mp deck, rockford HX2 sub, and an old school rockford chrome power 1000 that i would like to install, but its looking like i will need another amp and new speakers since i'm thinking they are not going to work with an aftermarket amp. also what are the dimensions of the speakers in the bose system? i think they are 8" in the front and rear doors, 12" sub in rear deck, not sure about rear deck speakers or dash speakers and center channel. I have done many installs, but this is my first sts and i'm not sure if ishould tackle this thing, or pay a professional installer to do this. The bose system is nice, but not near what i'm looking for. Any help from you pros is greatly appreciated. thanks. Also, if anyone could recommend a good installer in iowa or closeby that would be appreciated too. thank you.:banghead:

Go for it yourself you'll never learn unless you try take your time be careful and do you research. Save the money.
The Din adaptor find one for a cad around your year and try it out.

I installed an aftermarket CD changer and satellite radio in my '98 STS then again in my '03 STS. I installed a small Alpine system head in the small compartement at the bottom of the center console. The CD changer and Satellite receiver' are installed in the trunk. Although it uses an FM modulator the audio quality is adequate. A bonus is the CD changer is also an mp3 player. I can't recall the model number but I've been very satisfied with it. I also installed one in my '92 Allante and installed the control head in the center ashtray space.

This approach leaves the factory audio system intact which I believe will help your resale value if you ever decide to sell the car.

what about a spot for the factory bose radio. Do i have to keep this in the ciruit? Is there some other type of bypass thing i can buy so i dont have to run wires to the radio in the trunk? please help!:banghead:

Ill look up the manufacturer, but someone makes a harness that allows you to relocate the factory HU to the trunk. Then you can rewire the car, replacing the speakers, or keep the existing wires, and have a 4-ch amp in the trunk to drive the aftermarket speakers.
