The best part of being a grandfather or great-grandfather is come night time they all go someplace else.

I hope all you fathers out there are having an awesome day. Mine was the best Fathers Day ever. First, my wife and kids give me my gift. A Sony DVD camcorder. Hell yeah. I love it. Later, we were at my sons baseball game. He is on the 11 year old All-Star team. The boy hit his first official home run. Hell yeah again. I don't know who was more excited, my son or myself. This is one proud poppa.

My wife gave me the day off from laying naildown hardwood floors. She also let me cook dinner. Halfway through BBQing ribs we had a cloudburst. We have an adopted special needs boy that was in a good mood, very happy, and didn't have any seizures today. All in all a pretty good day.

You know, most any guy can be a father, what I want to be known and remembered as is Dad or Daddy.

My little 92 year old grandmother still shares memories of her childhood and whenever she talks about her father she still calls him Daddy. It doesn't get any better than that.

It melts my heart when my 20 year old daughter gives me a big teary hug and says; "I love you Daddy."

Happy Father's Day guys!

I posted about my Father's day somewhere else already.

I just remembered though, one of my buddies has been trying to adopt a baby for years and years... he and his wife got their baby on Saturday from Ethiopia.
How about that? His first whole day as a Dad is Father's day!!!
:D
I need to call him today maybe and wish him a belated.
He took some time off work.

Hope you dads had a great one!

I was in my early sixties when my wife and I adopted a special needs Eskimo boy from Point Hope, Alaska. He's sixteen years old but in diapers and has a whole range of neurological problems. If you'd told me 20 years ago that I'd do such a thing I'd have told you that you were crazy as hell. Today we wouldn't have it any other way. We need him as much as he needs us. If you want to know what a real feeling of accomplishment and worth is, I suggest you give it a try. You'll be amazed with what you find within yourself.

Koz, my brother in law is mentally handicapped. He suffered brain damage at birth due to lack of oxygen. When the doctors diagnosed him a few years later they tried to convince my in-laws to institutionalize him which they refused.

So instead of being pumped full of drugs to make it easier for strangers to "take care" of him, he is a vibrant part of our family and society. He is one of the most gentle, friendly souls you will ever have the pleasure to meet and he has come a long way in the last 15 years. He has learned a lot of things like how to work at Longs Drug Store, how to do some things on the computer, how to use the 2-way radio on the bus in case of emergency.....

Anyway, we are blessed to have him around.
