Hi, First of all i would like to say that i'm new to this forum and have turned here in hope of finding someone who has had a similar problem. My 2002 Escalade EXT drives and handles fine but when i turn it clunks and feels like something is slipping. I believe it is something in the transfer case but i'm not sure. The moment i start turning the car starts lurking and jumping while something under the car makes a clunking noise. Please help me :(

both directions?

I had a similar problem with an Astro that I thought was tranny related. Ended up being the body mounts were worn out and the body was rolling when I turned. But that was only one direction. nothing happened turning the other direction.

I had the same problem on my '07 EXT. It turned out to be a defective strut, which the dealership replaced.

I took it into the local 4X4 shop and they said it might be the transfer case. I dropped it off this morning so hopefully they can help me.

Mine has had the same problem. Turned out to be the strut thing. It was fixed so you might want to be careful with that 4x4 shop, they might just want to take you for a ride.

D1ngo,
You probably have it fixed by now, but that is a condition exclusive to '02 on the Escalades. Feels like you're locked in 4-whl drive on pavement causing serious binding and hopping because it is locked. T-case.

a little late, but my 02 Lade did the same exact thing. Turned out it was the front differential, the Viscous Clutch to be exact. I think its in the transfer case. And of course the part is on national backorder.:rant2:

I also have a terrible popping noise described by the technician here to sound like this below on my 02 Escalade. Mine only does it when I travel over 55 mph for like 40 miles. When I go to turn the cadillac sharp when going slow it popps like it is stuck in 4 wheel drive and the cv joints are popping. I have replaced the cv joints and axles on both sides of car but it continues to do it. I then read it could be this "Viscous Clutch" in the front differential. I also read it could be my body mounts need to be upgraded to a larger size. Once the caddy cools down the popping stops. I have found the faster I drive the quicker it happens when turning sharp at say 2-3mph going through a parking lot. I also have changed the 90 weight in differential and added lucas gear oil hoping it would help. Could someone help me out that knows??
Thanks,
Ray
