View Full Version : How to find the elusive Sage Green Coupe? Jonas McFeely 06-10-07, 09:51 PM Been thinking about this lately. As some of you know, the '85 Brougham Coupe in Sage Green is the rarest Fleetwood made that year. Only 55 ever made.
I want one bad. But with it being so rare, its next to impossible to find one. Ive never seen one. I havnt even seen another Sage Green Sedan, and there were 393 of those made.
I know some of you guys are pretty sick of hearing about SAGE GREEN crap.But...
How would i go about locating one? Is there someone i can pay, or a registry or something? Does the DMV have records on this kind of thing, and does it get as specific as color? I am willing to pay a finders fee too. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-10-07, 10:12 PM Good question....maybe have the DMV run a check on the VIN's of all the other '85 Fleetwood Broughams...looking for the VIN number for the coupe bodystyle and paint scheme. It'd have to be a nationwide search too, but I'm pretty sure running the VIN's thru the DMV isn't legal.
What happened to the Maxima/300ZX/G35 you were looking at? TWasArroundHere 06-11-07, 12:13 AM Its funny you bring this up. I ran into a guy who had one, all original, at my local best buy. I had my 84 Coupe, and we sat and talked about our cars for about an hour. That car was gorgeous. He didnt want to sell it, though, much to my dismay Destroyer 06-11-07, 12:26 AM Why not get any coupe and just get it painted Sage Green? Jonas, my friend, I hate to break it to you, but the odds of any of those 55 cars still being around 22 years on in slim closing in on none. I don't know if it's even possible, but the logical way to track them down would be to find out where each one was shipped from the factory, then trace them from there. I'll bet real money all 55 trails end at the crusher. If you really want one and aren't willing to wait a lifetime in vain for one to magically turn up, get one in Cotillion White and follow Destroyer's suggestion.
If it's any consolation, when I bought my 77 CDV, I really wanted one in Sonora Tan like my first car had been. Then reality set in that after nearly 30 years, good examples of any 1977 car were getting thin on the ground. So, I settled for triple yellow. No regrets. Just remember as you forge ahead in your quest, the perfect is the enemy of the good. Happy hunting!
Craig jayoldschool 06-11-07, 09:33 AM If you will settle for an 84, here is one in your colour for 2500:
http://www.layitlow.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=343097&st=20 Benzilla 06-11-07, 12:39 PM Wow. Me like. :D Methinks this is the impossible search (or nearly so). I would go with the suggestion to find a clean one in another color and repaint for two reasons:
1. Finding this color (much less in good condition) in a factory paint job will be like finding a virgin in a maternity ward.
2. Paint technology now, versus 1985 is light years better. The 85 is an enamel paint job. 1985 may also be early lead free paint (the kind that looks like it washed off the car, literally). At this age, it will be pretty badly beat - faded/chipped/orange peeled/dulled out etc. to a point where I doubt it would be presentable. If you can find one with a clean straight rust free body, have the sage green color you want made for basecoat/clearcoat paintjob and get it done. Then you have the car you want in the color you want and it'll look good for years to come.
In any case, good luck!
KDirk 96Fleetwood 06-11-07, 04:40 PM First off, don't you need the $$ to buy this said Sage Green coupe? I am sure if it is that rare, whoever has one is not going to let it go cheap.. and just last month you were trying to buy Destroyer's 1991 Fleetwood for $3200.
I have never seen one either, in sedan or coupe form. I would like to see that color in person, bet it is nice  90Brougham350 06-11-07, 04:58 PM Honestly, with 55 ever made, you're not going to find one. I would guess at least 45 have already been crushed, several are sitting in junkyards, and the remaining few are driven by owners who have no idea how rare their coupes are, or like Elias said, driven by owners who know how special what they drive is.

I have decided on the Maxima, and that will have to wait until the end of the year.

Yes,i would need the money. But a month ago i didnt have a job,now i have a good job that pays well, and i am making enough to start thinking about things like this. I was just getting some ideas.

I hope to God you are wrong. But you are probably right. I bet i can find one though. There has to be a way.

How would i go about finding that information?

I dont know if that is exactly Sage, but it may be. Anyhoo, its not what i want. It doesnt have the Sage interior or Aspen top.
And to those who say just make a clone: That simply will not do. I will feel like a fake. Plus the interior pieces are almost impossible to find. Only a genuine one will do.
Thanks for everyones input though. Night Wolf 06-11-07, 07:29 PM I'm in the same boat in finding another 1993 Coupe DeVille in Slate Bronze Metallic..... only 119 made..... Hah, yeah you guys and your uber rare Cadillacs. 119 of Rick's and 393 of Jonas's. I hadn't realized until now that your first Cadillacs were both so rare. Night Wolf 06-12-07, 08:27 AM I know my '79 DeVille was a rare bird too... though not sure exactly how much so.
Laramie Beige outside with Ceder Red inside..... and it was a d'Elegance on top of that!
My Fleetwood Brougham seems to be somewhat rare too.... but I don't think to the levels of the others mentioned. Wheelman322 06-15-07, 12:39 AM I know it's not an 85 and not a Fleetwood, but still thought you might wanna see this...

If there were some that did not go to crusher, then they were likely repainted a diff color.
WalMart has black spray paint for 96 cents, but you need ID in some stores to show that you are smart enough (or something) to avoid sniffing it. Salesman at one store told me that the best flavor to sniff is silver.

That is either Loden Green or Greyfern. Not sure which.
I dont understand why 80's Green Cadillacs are so rare. Any color green just seems to be really rare. I wonder why? Green was more popular in the early 70s. By the mid-80s, it was all about "clean" colors (white, silvers, greys, black). Greens and the lighter blues and yellows were just not fashionable. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-15-07, 11:20 PM Hey, Jonas, have you got a exterior paint selection chart for 1985? I'm curious to see the different dark greens they offered that year. Jonas McFeely 06-16-07, 01:29 AM Hey, Jonas, have you got a exterior paint selection chart for 1985? I'm curious to see the different dark greens they offered that year.
Only greens they offered in '85 were Sage and Aspen. The Brougham in the movie Bubble Boy, the one that they destroy,i believe is Aspen green, 1 of 957. I have never seen one in person.
The last green Brougham of any kind was in 1986, which i beleive they still offered Sage and Aspen, though i thought it was Princess green for that year, but i just checked and apparently its not.
Green colors offered in the 80's:
Princess green
Blackwatch green
Loden green
Sage green
Aspen green
I think Greyfern is a greenish color, not sure. The_Hearsecutor 06-19-07, 04:09 AM I second the motion of finding yourself a decent Coupe and having it resprayed with more modern, advanced paints (base/clear).
I was considering this same notion awhile back when I thought it would be awesome to have a RED Fleetwood Coupe, as I'd never seen one before. During my search, I came across a special order SAXONY RED '81- this color was limited to Eldo's only that year. Even the matching interior isn't listed in the dealer master catalog, so this was "one-off" as well. Speaking of interior, the original owner later ordered white door/quarter panels and seat covers to match the 1/4 top. These came with the car and are still mint and sealed. Been thinking of swapping out at some point. I suppose he was afraid of committing to the all red interior???
At any rate, you can only begin to imagine my excitement level to have this one of a kind color scheme. It's a feat I doubt I'll be able to repeat. Part of the passion with cars is their color- if you can't find what you want, then "make" it happen.
BTW- What source did you refer to for prod. #s"? I have a Neptune Aqua '81 CDV that was a low-prod. color.....
Good Luck! Jonas McFeely 06-19-07, 10:01 AM BTW- What source did you refer to for prod. #s"? I have a Neptune Aqua '81 CDV that was a low-prod. color.....

Sandy. He has all kinds of info like this The_Hearsecutor 06-19-07, 11:11 AM That's right, I remember the name now. Thanks for the reminder. Night Wolf 06-27-07, 11:50 AM So I got done replacing all 4 O2 sensors on the Town Car and wanted to taker her out on the highway to see how she runs (very, very nicely BTW)
While on I-75 NB towards Macon, something caught my eye... a semi truck car transport full of cars.... what caught my eye was the last car o nthe top level.... it was most defintly a 2-door of these body styles... and... it had to be Sage Green.... cause there is only one other place I've seen the car, and so much of it....
Dunno if it was a Fleetwood or a DeVille or what, but it was on the truck... I actually thought about turning around to get a better look and maybe more... but it was in the middle of a huge construction site and there was no where to turn around, and I wasn't about the take the Lincoln on a little off-road excursion.... had I been in the Isuzu....
Anyway.... dunno, but it was on a car transport with a bunch of other, newer cars too... maybe an auto auction? who knows.... I didn't get any name on the truck or anything :( Jonas McFeely 06-27-07, 03:58 PM So I got done replacing all 4 O2 sensors on the Town Car and wanted to taker her out on the highway to see how she runs (very, very nicely BTW)

The car is obviously for sale. Its just where its for sale at.
Thanks in advance guys. Speechless...

I understand that he does indeed enjoy the sage green, however I was merely commenting on WHY he liked them so much.
Now, if he said because it is a rare car, then cool no biggie. If he said it's because he really likes green then thats cool too.
I was just mainly wondering why he liked that particular color so much; rarity, or just the fact that it is a pretty green?
