View Full Version : Time to work on ye ol' Lincoln Night Wolf 06-01-07, 05:15 PM Well, about a month ago I spent $250 on new stuff for the Town Car.... got them where i used to work since i have a commercial account... saves money :)
So just yesterday I had another $250 to rent the needed tools from Advance.... I'll get the money back, but I still needed it up front.
So this wave of work is not "needed" it is just me being crazy with preventative maintenace.... when I was under the car, all 4 ball joints have torn boots, and 2 of the 4 tie rod ends have torn boots as well.
So, have 4 new ball joints, 4 new tie rod ends, a new pitman arm... and I think thats about it... gonna get that all installed then an alignment.
This will be the first time I've removed a tire form the car too... heh. DaveSmed 06-03-07, 09:26 PM Good move, If i'm not mistaken, those have somewhat of an appetite for lower ball joints.
Good luck with it Destroyer 06-08-07, 10:24 PM Make sure you post like 500 pictures of the job (like there was any doubt you would) cause everyone here in the Caddy forums owns a Town Car and cares!. You know Destroyer your a riot.:histeric: Benzilla 06-09-07, 01:05 PM What's wrong with his pictures? I like that Town Car. We're all on the same side. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-09-07, 01:14 PM The pictures of the car it's self are ok. but the constant barrage of pictures of each and every little part of it can get a tad bit obtrusive at times.
Don't get me wrong though, the Town Car is a beaut. Awesome exterior color! AlBundy 06-09-07, 01:38 PM Well you know his threads would help other Lincoln TC owners in a tech tips section and should be posted in Sal's Lincoln section, as most of you know from our own tech section, pics are very useful when your a beginner. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-09-07, 01:52 PM Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, it would definetly be of help to Town Car owners who are wondering how to replace those items. Someone should copy those threads over to there...they'd be much better suited over there. Night Wolf 06-09-07, 10:53 PM Ah yes, last weekends project.
Rest assured, there are NO pictures at all :(
Digital camera is broke.... come next paycheck though I'm gonna be getting a new one... then I'll be taking enough pictures to make up for the down time of the old Toshiba!
As for the project itself... it was fun, the whole spindle came off.... a whole lotta life left on those brake pads! and the rotors are fine, so I'll get alot of use out of those. When it is time to replace the brakes, I am going to upgrade to '98+ brakes, which means 10" rotors to 12" rotors and single piston caliper to double piston caliper it's basically a bolt in swap and supposed to really improve the braking (which isn't too bad to begin with)
Upon replacment of all 4 ball joints and all 4 tie rods, the upper right ball joint was really bad, alot of play in it, loose... that was causing the last of the knocking over bumps and stuff.... the lower left ball joint was loose, the other 2 were tight, but the boots on all 4 were torn. All 4 tie rods were great, but I already had them, the car was apart, so I replaced them anyway, 2 of them had boots that were torn.
Got the car aligned... man she drives nice and tight... very happy! Though with working on the car last weekend, and flying to FL this weekend, and 2 weeks ago, I've hardly put any miles on the Town Car since.... though I think I'll go out for a nice drive later.
Anyway, if ya'll don't like my pictures.... don't read my threads :) caddycruiser 06-10-07, 05:14 PM Terrific! Hey, yah, wanna come up to DE for a little trip and check out a '95 Fleetwood's front end bits while you're at it...:)
Sounds like this car is really, really coming along with all the "little" things being fixed, and it's turning out well. urbanski 06-10-07, 06:05 PM but i want pics :emo: Night Wolf 06-10-07, 06:08 PM Terrific! Heh, I could.... wouldn't cost me anything to get there and back ;)
Yeah, I took the car out for a long drive last night.... man is it nice. Only things left now... the drivers window dosn't work, then it did, now it dosn't again... the motor draws current but won't move... I think it may be bound up again from the previous owner shobby repair job... otherwise I just gotta get a new motor.
Also the battery slight is still flickering now... started when I flushed the coolant a couple months ago and got water on/around the alternator... really haven't spent any time fixing that though.
Other then that, shes solid... just turned 98k Once I get these little things fixed I'd like to get the windows tinted and get some vent visors... I ike them alot.
With the new spark plug wires in, and some other odds and ends her highway mileage seems to be 24mpg 65-70mph with AC on and 26mpg 65-70mph AC off.... I'm happy now :) I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-10-07, 06:58 PM Man, I am so in love with that car, especially that color combo. I'm still happy that you came back to the american land yacht, after those times you weren't sure that you wanted another barge. Night Wolf 06-10-07, 07:28 PM Thanks :)
I must say, it's a great thing that I kept the Isuzu, because I'd probably be tired of the barges by now... its great having both types of vehicles to go back and fourth with... keeps them both fresh to me.
Although lately I've been interested in a sports car for some reason... I dunno... all that talk about those C4 Corvettes.... but.... I can't even think about getting another car right now, and I'm not getting rid of the ones I have now anytime soon :) I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-10-07, 07:33 PM Yah, no kidding, as much as I'd love to have 3-4 Cadillacs, but I'd probably get bored of having all those land barges. I'd have to go with a sports car too...probably a C4 Vette. Night Wolf 06-10-07, 07:44 PM Yeah, the Isuzu keeps things together... its just such a different type of driving... I like it alot... I found a little area with dirt road that was fun to drive on, tho hardly off road.
Still the only thing about a sports car is... there is nowhere to enjoy it, I guess thats why I've never been interested in them... there is really no place around here, and driving fast on public roads is just too risky, and I know having a Corvette would just make that worse.
Thats why I like luxury cars so much... dosn't matter where you are or what your doing, you are enjoying the luxury and features of the car nearly all the time.
Also why I like trucks... pickups are useful but the small SUV things like the Amigo (real trucks tho, not the sissy ones) are just fun and really good off-road (which can get you in trouble too)
Which is why I still would like a Jeep Wrangler TJ at some point.... when used correctly, it would give just as much fun as a Corvette used correctly, but in a different way.... either way though, where I live right now there is no place to really enjoy a Corvette.... or an off-road truck.... as there is no place to really off-road.
As far as sports cars though... I like the small roadster type cars.... like the Miata....
Which is why somebody I could picture myself getting a used Solstice/Sky..... someday.....maybe.... I really like them..... 96Fleetwood 06-10-07, 09:05 PM Yah, no kidding, as much as I'd love to have 3-4 Cadillacs, but I'd probably get bored of having all those land barges. I never got bored with these three... ;)

I have been there and done the sports car thing. (300ZX TT, 300ZX 2+2, 944 S2, 944 Turbo). It is fun, but I was big into AutoX and Road Racing with requires time and lots of $$$ for when you break parts... so I put that on hold until I start making the big bucks (then I can do the same with a CTS-V) Anyway, if ya'll don't like my pictures.... don't read my threads :)
That's the spirit, Rick! | |
