Help I've got a problem. My 1979 Fleetwood Brougham 425ciF.I. won't pass smog. After numerous attemps to get her to pass she wound up as a GROSS Polutter. I took her to the local Cad dealer and they have determined the problem is the EGR valve is NOT working correctly due to a cracked Transducer located under the EGR valve. The dealer does not have a replacement part and can't order one due to it being soo old.
Does anyone know where I can purchase one? New or used is OK.
Thanks
Phil

eBay is a good bet, they show up there regularly.

Isn't the transducer in the vacuum line to the EGR? I wonder if it could just be bypassed. If it's not working then the EGR may not be working at all. If you bypass it, at least it may work good enough to pass your smog test. If we are talking about the same thing, then I may have one on my coupe that I don't need if the carb model is like the FI unit. Good luck.

You may be able to repair it. JB weld or something. EGR systems commonly clog (sometimes completely) with carbon deposits from the valve to the intake. I would dissasemble entire system, clean and inspect for obvious problems. EGR valves tend to fail from weak spring pressure, loss of seal, dirty seats, and rust. Assuming that is the issue. EGR problems will cause high NOX due to high cylinder combustion temps. Verify it failed from high NOX first. Google NOX EGR for more info.

Thanks for the help!
I was given a GREAT phone number for help with California emissions.
If you need any part that is hard to find for smog you call the California Air Resources at 800-826-3566. They must give you contacts in their data base to locate the parts. They gave me (3). Discount Smog @ 866-965-0912, Belmar @ 800-926-2272, and HELP SMOG @ 800-544-4357. These people are for all Cadillacs 1987 and older. He told me dealerships and parts houses must carry all smog parts back 20 years by law. And these suppliers carry all older emissions for cadillac, GM, Buick etc.
I ordered the part FedEx overnight. And the problem is fixed.
Thanks for the help.

Did you ask about any other FI unobtanium parts? Glad you were able to find the transducer. I have an old FI intake that's going to get put to use one of these years and could be in the same boat.

Did you find a transducer? I'm pretty sure I have one that is good...
