So... why?

Is this a trick question? :alchi: :suspense:

There's plenty of good reasons. The coupe will have a shorter wheelbase and be lighter, which equals better handling and acceleration.

a CTS-V coupe; doesnt that equal Corvette? Unless you have to stuff two small children in the back, I dont see the point. CTS backseat is already small, I am sure that is where the shorter wheelbase is going to steal from.

So the title of this thread is still appropriate: everything that is V related is still a rumor - and anyones' guess is as good as anybody else.

Extremely evasive, almost to the point that I suspected they were not on the "need to know basis" list.

They did absolutely confirm the coupe model is coming soon after the '08, probably as an early '09.

I could have told you that though....and I'm noone. What I'm really wondering about is the wagon with a TDI and AWD, which the body/engine/drivetrain is coming except I don't know when or if I can get that exact config. That would be yummy!

Oh and as far as I know the coupe or wagon is not planned as a V, only the sedan.

Well sure, but until now I haven't heard it from the horse's mouth. I could tell you what the next V is, but until I've had it confirmed I don't make declarative statements.

GM has done a great job keeping the real goods from leaking out. There has been more leaked about the super vette than the V. I think GM will get it right this time. I think to myself the current car kicks ass now add more of everything and whammo American super-sedan:thumbsup: I'm in love already:)

CTS backseat is already small, I am sure that is where the shorter wheelbase is going to steal from. The CTS back seat is certainly not small. Maybe small compared to a Town Car or 300 but it is plenty big for a sport sedan.

Do we have dimensions for the coupe vs. sedan? Because many coupes ride on the same wheelbase. The coupe will most likely have a smaller backseat but I doubt it will be unusable for adults. There is plenty of demand for a coupe...although I will probably go for another sedan...

i suppose it is not small, compared to my maxima it has less legroom for sure...

comparing coupe with sedan, i know the accord and G coupes both have significantly tighter back seats than their sedan counterparts. could be different with the CTS though. i'm just saying...

Yeah and you'll be able to record and rewind live radio like TIVO. :)

They actually haven't decided how updates will be handled yet. It may be a reflash through TIS2 web, a DVD flash, or OnStar- they just aren't sure yet.

If everyone's that hungry for Nav info, here's a few other choice bits that will surely apply to the V as well as the regular CTS:

-Radio buffering will store up to 60 minutes of radio temporarily (meaning you can't save it). Say you're listening to a talk show and have to stop for gas. While the car is off, the HDD will continue recording the station that was on. When you start the car back up, you can hit rewind and go back the the point where you left off. When you get to a commercial on your recording, you can go "live" and catch back up, just like a TiVO or DVR.

-The 40GB HDD will also allow you to rip individual songs or entire CDs to the HDD permanently, and uses Gracenote software to organize iPod style playlists that allow you to sort by artist, song, album, genre, etc... You can rip CDs while listening to the radio, and an onscreen progress bar shows your download progress. iPod music purchased through the iTunes store can't be ripped to the HDD, but files you manually added to the iPod from your CD collection or PC can.

-USB hookups under the armrest on cars with the Uplevel nav system allow hookup of not only an iPod, but any USB device with music on it. The device is controlled by the touchscreen.

I'm happy to answer any other questions about equipment if you've got 'em. Most of the optional features should be standard on the V, just like the current generation.

Bored at work, so here's some more random nifty facts about the '08 CTS that will also apply to the V:

-Adaptive forward lighting steers the headlights up to 15deg. depending on steering input, just like the XLR. This really has to be seen at night to appreciate- it's awesome.

-When switching between screens on the Navigation radio (like from XM to Nav, or back again) the screens "fade" into each other, sort of like Windows Vista. Another "gotta see it to appreciate it", but it looks wicked.

-The seam where the roof meets the side of the body is no longer covered by the big strip of plastic that runs the length of the roof. 2008 models use "Lazer Brazing" to join the two panels- once it's painted, you can't even see the joint, which leaves a smooth transition with no molding required. The windshield also no longer has a molding, which takes balls to do. You can hide a lot of fitment issues with moldings, so Cadillac must be pretty confident in their assembly process to use exposed edge of glass on the windshield.

-Battery is now in the trunk (presumably for weight distribution), over on the passenger side behind a cover.

-Rear A/C vents for the kiddies and back seat passengers (finally!)

-"E-Z Key" system is like a cross between the STS and a regular key. The car unlocks just by pulling the door handle if you're carrying the fob in your pocket, but instead of a pushbutton on the dash, there's a chrome "key" permanently sticking out of the ignition on the steering column. You depress the brake and twist this to start the car. According to the engineers, they felt that the "turning the key" was an important bond between a driver and sports car, and that's why it was chosen over a pushbutton. (I'm still wondering how many broken windows we'll see because a thief thinks the key is left in it.....we'll see.)

That's about all I can think of right now. Yeah, it's no V info, but since all these goodies should be included on the V it half counts. :)

Are we seeing the end of the traditional key? Call me old fashioned, but I really dislike this whole pushbutton (or fixed knob) starting thing. And as for the electronic fob, what if I walk past my car (for whatever reason) and it unlocks the car as I walk past, and fails to lock it when I walk away? And worst of all, what happens when the battery dies in the fob, and now with no key, how the hell do I get in the car?

The car doesn't lock and unlock based on your proximity. When someone actually pulls the Driver's door handle, it does a quick check to see if the fob is within 3 feet of the door and if it is, unlocks. There is a keyhole on the driver's door for a slim emergency key that's built into the keyfob (It's pretty slick)

As far as locking, when the last door is closed the car polls for the keyfob with an antenna mounted inside the car. If the fob is no longer in the interior, it locks the doors after 5 seconds. If the last door is closed and the fob is still inside the car, the horn sounds three times to let you know that the car is not going to lock itself. This is to prevent the car from being unknowingly left unlocked if your fob were to slip out of your pocket while driving.

Each time you start the car it takes a reading of the fob battery. If low, it gives you a "Fob Battery Low" warning on the DIC every time you start the car, basically annoying you until you change the battery. In the event the fob just totally dies out of nowhere, all the Cadillacs with the keyless access have a "failsafe" slot that you can put the keyfob in to start the car, even if the battery is dead as a doornail.

They've covered their bases with this system. I was skeptical when the XLR first got it in 2004, but it's worked flawlessly on that, the STS and now the CTS. It's a well designed piece of technology.

As I said a few posts ago, that's one of the concerns I raised with the product team.

It doesn't actually look exactly like a key- it's a raised chrome and rubber "fin" (picture an oven knob like this one- I know....)

I still think it looks enough like a key to attract a few overeager theives, so I suppose only time will tell.

Ths was posted on GMInsidenews a couple weeks ago. Suprised no one has commented.

SCORECARD! SCORECARD! YOU CAN’T TELL THE PLAYERS WITHOUT A SCORECARD!!!!!!!!

Ok if I read all the above correctly this is what I come up with.

The 09 CTS-V will get the LSA motor not the LS-7 motor.

The LSA, and LS8 and LS9 are all based off the LS3 except that these three engines are all supercharged.

The LSA is estimated 500-525 hp.

The LS8 is alledged to be in the 480hp neighborhood. Maybe a little more.
Look for the top end Camaro to get this motor as well as other zetas. Might even see it in a truck at some point.

LS9 is the 600+ HP monster.

The LS7 is dying in the near future as it is too expensive to build and cannot be Supercharged due to design.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, assuming that the above is all true and correct then I only have one question. What is the difference between a LSA motor and an LS9 motor and can an LSA motor be turned into an LS9 motor without removing it from the car, i.e. is the long block the same?

Are we seeing the end of the traditional key? Call me old fashioned, but I really dislike this whole pushbutton (or fixed knob) starting thing. And as for the electronic fob, what if I walk past my car (for whatever reason) and it unlocks the car as I walk past, and fails to lock it when I walk away? And worst of all, what happens when the battery dies in the fob, and now with no key, how the hell do I get in the car?

My '99 C5 had "passive Entry", which was a little slide switch on the back of the keyfob that would automagically unlock the doors when you came close enough to the car. It was great, but what always pi$$ed me off about it was that it was only half baked - you still had to pull the keys out of your pocket to start the car normally, and honestly where do you want to be pulling the keys out of your pocket - when you're standing outside next to it, or when you've already dropped your a$$ into the driver's seat? Seemed very "half baked" to me, and what was missing was a pushbutton or permanant dial for starting the car.
The way that system saved the keyfob battery was that there was a little piezoelectric motion switch in the key, so if you were moving the fob and the car queried the fob, it would unlock the doors. The cool thing about this (since no Onstar in Vette's until the C6) was that if you locked your keys in the car, you only had to grab it in the wheel wells and shake it and it would unlock the doors for you. I used to leave my keys in it on purpose when I went mountain biking, so I couldn't possibly lose them. only thing I was worried about was it unlocking if someone towed it, but if that happened I was screwed anyway. :-D
I guess they did away with passive entry after only a year or two because of some customer complaints, but I used it all the time and never had any issues whatsoever - it was pretty cool.

Actually, I had an '05 STS for a little over a year and enjoyed the keyless access/keyless go- I miss it on my CTS-V.

I will say however, that if the new CTS-V sucks balls then I'm definitely getting one. :D

You all know I have had both the regular key and the fob/button push start. There is no question in my mind the fob/button is far superior. If I want to connect with the car, I'll do it once I put it in gear not when I am firing it up.

I love the fob, just put it in your pocket and forget it. Just the fact that you can walk away and the car locks itself is so underrated, it really is a great feature.

I'm talking out my ass probably - but look closer under the jackshaft. Is it just me or is there a hose and clamp aka intercooler plumbing?

WW

Edit: That's a current V with an MP122, IMHO. Maybe not. Just awfully familiar under the hood. Battery cover different...but LS2? Fuel lines and fuel rails different than I'm accustomed to. Different engine harness. Very similar coolant plumbing. Different (radiator?). Jackshaft sits up higher. Strange looking TB. OK - so it is an LS(guess) in a current generation V with a different wiring harness and front clip. :stirpot:

Wait - 2 hood struts. Airbox is factory but a one off (cut and glued together around the face?). Block/heads seem to sit low in the frame. Evap/Emissions lines are factory looking and running nice and tidy - but not factory tidy.

'08 CTSs arrived today. Here's some pictures of the diff (specifically the attachment points), as requested by Lawfive and others. Looks like there's quite a few additional attachment points, and some beefier bushings to help fight deflection back there.

The biggest improvement I see is that it's now secured on different planes (up + down and side to side) in addition to the current front to back bushings. As any supercharger designer knows, the proper way to prevent deflection under load is to secure on all three planes.

Enjoy!

When does some enterprising young investigator 'Stealthily' discover what kind of torque it's rated for? Hmmmmmm??

It's a Getrag model 646. Checked their website and it's not listed there (yet). The current CTS has the 645 model so at least it's a higher number. :bigroll:

Cadillac Tony

This is the picture I'm most reassured by:

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/attachments/cadillac-cts-v-series-forum/34560d1187791914-go-harumph-yourself-blownls3-jpg-100_0510.jpg

The front end of the current rear cradle lifts up into the underbody on hard acceleration and is the primary cause of the wheelhop. The reason I took that picture is to show the revised bushing placement. The current bushing acts like a fulcrum at the halfway point of the front cradle arm, whereas the new one is positioned about 90% to the front, which should effectively eliminate the cradle rotation and wheelhop.

If the cradle can maintain its angle under launches it will eliminate the change in pinion angle and destruction of rear ends, so the torque rating on the diff will basically be inconsequential.

Awesome.

GM / Cadillac have not confirmed any real details on the car at this point. However with this design they have been able to plan for a V version from the start which means they could make sure the frame could support an auto transmission to make it an option. Let's face it, the more cars they can sell the better Cadillac will like it and there has certainly been some potential customers who did not consider the car because the current design was a manual only. The CTS-V has proven it can sell in it's current limited numbers of production, so providing an auto option for the 09 will simply mean more sales for a wider customer base. I would be extremely suprised if the 09 did not come with an auto option as well as the manual.

Like others had mentioned I would wait a few months, we should hear some solid details by the Detroit auto show after the first of the year.

Yes, I live in Palm Beach Gardens and do go to Wash and Wax World every now and then. Usually to get the bug residue off after a trip to Sebring.

For those considering the slushbox - Sorry to hear about the tragic loss of your manhood.

My sources tell me that in addition to custom tailoring your V to have an automatic, other options will be added in the automatic checkbox. Here's the list...

Plush velour seating surfaces.
Woven curtains.
Whitewall tires.
Airbag suspension.
Column shifter.
Front bench seats.
Special Edition Prince Purple Paint.

I'm surprised there haven't been any comments about the harmonic dampener bolted to the carrier.

It's an interesting design, and will probably absorb the whining from the rear. The $20 it probably costs to add this will probably save them a couple hundred thousand on pointless diff replacements.

So, in answer to your question: Yes.

That's why I linked the actual MT site. Their first paragraph is an "UPDATE". They retracted the 7.0L statement and now say it's a blown 6.2L motor.

... I read it as dead for 08.Yeah, that's the way I think it was intended, but to the casual reader, ... well, it needed to be better clarified.

You KNOW that they wouldn't have said it that way if it was the M3 or M5 or some other uber car. They would've been all over it to explain it a whole bunch better.

Oh, another point relative to the 600 hp: If that's indeed true, I wonder if the volume will be significantly lower than the 3-4,000 units we've seen these last few years. Maybe down around 1-1.5k units or even less?

got this off my other forum, I sure do hope the 09V has the 600hp motor to mess with this uppity audi:

http://www.motorauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/Audi/A6/RS6/spy/preview_Audi_rs6_avant.jpg

We recently reported that leaked vehicle chassis codes for the new Audi RS6 specced the output from its twin-turbo V10 engine at 571hp (426kW). Recent information from a source at Audi, however, has put this figure in doubt. The reliable source claims that the 571hp will only be the specified figure Audi will market the car with. True output will be upwards of 600hp, with 610hp (455kW) pegged as the most likely figure. It looks like Audi is taking no chances with the ultimate “wolf in sheep’s clothing” model and even BMW’s excellent V10 motor will struggle to compete with this kind of power output. To give you an idea of just how high this figure is, the RS6 will churn out more horses than the Corvette Z06, BMW M6, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Aston Martin DBS, Porsche 911 GT2, and even Mercedes’ epic bi-turbo V12 CL65 AMG.
While we’re always happy to see manufacturers pushing the limit, surely there comes a time when outright power figures get out of control. The previous RS6 wasn’t a slow car by any stretch of the imagination, but the new model will likely become the most practical supercar ever made. At least owners will have a full-time AWD system to help keep them out of trouble.

----
well.. the bright side is that audi needs a v-10 and twin turbo' to get 600hp while we do it with a v-8 :)
