: So who keeps in their third row seating?

We are getting our '07 Escalade as a tow vehicle (yes, TomK, I know yours is horrible and such, but every other experience I read is quite positive) and a freeway cruiser for me. We have a small family - only one child - and so it will be rare that we need to use the rear seats. I think I should take them out to save weight, but then I think what is 100lbs really in a 6000lb vehicle? They are sort of in the way if you need to stick groceries and such back there (I'm not getting the ESV, just the standard length because it fits in the garage better, and we don't need that much space), so there's definitely benefit in keeping them out, then if you do want to take someone else in the back, you have to put them back in.

To answer the title question, I do. With a larger family, the bigger truck became more of a necessity.

The Cadillac Escalade is a luxury item, enjoy it as you see fit :D.

I only have one child as well. I took my third row seats out the day I brought the Escalade home, and replaced them the day I sold it. They were heavy, akward, and took up most of the otherwise useful cargo space. My .02

You don't ever have your kid's friends in the car or take a number of your friends out so you can carpool?

I keep mine in, I have 2 kids in child seats so the 3rd row is something that is needed from time to time, plus I find plenty of storage with the seats flipped up (even with a double stroller tucked in.) Oh yea, I perfer the look of all the seaTS IN.

Until I went to college I had my 3rd row in all the time. I took it out when I was able to have my car with me and I haven't missed them the past 3 years. They are wrapped in plastic in my basement.

I go to work much earlier and usually get home later than anyone else I know. So no, I don't carpool.

I keep mine in all the time. My son sits back there quite often and when I need more room I just flip them forward. We also have a few extra riders in the truck from time to time.

Every third seat of mine is sealed in plastic and stored in a closet in my house, they are taken out the first day I get a new truck, and put back in the day I sell the truck. :)

i leave mine in... but 98% of the time they are "flipped forward" in the almost upright position...

Kept mine in. I also have 1 child. Chose the 2nd row capt chairs for easy access to the 3rd row. Decided to get the ESV for more cargo space. I only had my ESV for 1 month now and only folded the 3rd row once to get a 42" flat tv inside.

I would suggest to take them out and keep them in good condition. I also got the privacy cover and a liner for the rear area. It works rather nice to have the spce to keep stuff.

The 3rd row seating was the first thing to be removed from my 07 Escalade, since with 1 toddler & 2 infants, the Escalade was one of the few vehicles that could fit all 3 infant / toddler seats all together in the 2nd row bench.

To use a 3rd row seating for kids this young would not work out, since it's too tough to get back there and a child seat would in the 2nd row would block any type of power release feature. Also there is so much baby / toddler gear (stroller, etc..) that you need the open space in the rear cargo area available for these items.

I did not like how the mounting grooves stuck out in the rear cargo area when the 3rd row was removed, so I just bought one of those GM Escalade Vinyl Cargo liners to make everything nice and smooth. Comes in handy and not so expensive.

I also think 3rd row seating is also more convenient when you have the Captains Chairs in the 2nd row (which I do not have).

3rd row is in the closet. Just me and the wife, and I usually drive alone.

My kids are grown and out of the house.

When boating or camping, I need all the space, including putting the 2nd row up to get all our gear in.

I bought a thick, carpeted cargo mat that is shaped around the plastic 3rd row guides. Makes it all flat.

Could you please advise where you purchased your carpeted mat for the cargo area.

I have them in, and flipped up. Now and again me and my friends will all go out to eat and we use them so we only have to take one vehicle. I have had them out before but it is to much of a pain to take them in and out, so they will always be back there.

Regarding the cargo matt. This is the site where I got it last year. You will note that it has two different part numbers for the cargo matt; one with and one without 3rd row option (as if there was such an option). In any event, the carpet is shaped around the rails.

Hope this link works.

Our 1998 Mercury Mountaineer could manage that as well, but with the fourth on the way, A USEFUL third row was critical. As you mentioned, the second row of captain's chairs does make ingress/egress much easier.

Two infants.... yeesh.. G-d bless you!

I put one of the seats in my garage so there is more space for other stuff when i do running around during the week, and we go camping alot so usually i will lay down a blanket of some sort and then people can sit on the seats and be by the fire and relax, its more comfortable than the ground

We keep the 3rd row in. Fold 'em forward when we need more space - like a COSTCO run...

Daughter 8 and Son 6 fit nicely back there, no complaints. They can see the DVD screen for their movies. We've had 4 adults and 4 children 8 - 6 years old, in the Ecalade and no complaints on comfort.

That's why we bought it.

Cheers.

I have this cargo mat and I love it. I sold my used 3rd rows for $550 the week I bought my escalade. I use mine as a delivery vehicle, so the 3rd row rails really messed with me until I bought this. It's hard to see, but they embroidered 'Cadillac' in cursive in the middle. It looks OEM.
