Do you have the dome override switch turned on? It's next to the headlight knob.

The first time that happened to my 03' it drove me nuts. must have hit the override cleaning the interior, was ready to take it to the shop, read the manual and fixed it. :)

I had the same problem. The round stub that you push in and out is NOT the dome override switch. The round stub/knob only adjusts the relative brightness of the panel lighting. Directly above the round stub/knob is a square shaped switch that looks like it is just part of the panel, it is actually a switch that you push in to keep the dome lights off, and push it again and it allows the dome lights to work. Duh

Below the round stub/knob is the switch for the fog lamps, and it works the same way.

The owners manual is not clear on these two switches and I had a friendly tech at the dealer laughing at me. (He said a lot of people have been back with the same question, I think he was just trying to be nice and not call me a dummy.)

Im not sure what youre talking about. The switch in my Escalade is nearly identical to this one in the picture below, and they have been this way since at least 1995 on the full size GM trucks... the stubby round button IS the dome over-ride, but in later models they just added a cryptic lightbulb with a slash through it rather than "DOME OVERRIDE". The panel brightness adjustment is the LARGE Rheostat to the RIGHT of the Headlamp switch, not a button of any kind.

02' to 06' are different than the 07's. :)

Another example of how awesome this forum is and the wealth of good information that helps fellow members not look silly at the service department.

After weeks of fumbling around in the dark with no dome lights after entering and exiting the vehicle at night, I now have my answer since I am too lazy to check the manual and just more inclined to curse out this great vehicle on why the dome lights are not coming on at night. I just came back from my garage to see how this works.

Thanks again for your help in this matter. Now please help me find the switch in the Escalade that gives me the 35 MPG feature. HA! Just kidding!

I had the same problem when I picked up my ESV in the evening. When I got home, the dome overide was pressed (probably from the guys that were detailing it earlier) and I couldn't see inside when the door was opened. I had to turn the SUV back on and use the headlights to find where my stuff was in the 2nd row and cargo area.:banghead:
