I currently own an '02 Seville SLS, and will be in the market for a car next year. My first choice will be an '06 DTS. I will only be looking for Lux III or performance models. I am aware that the performance has the super expensive magna ride suspension. What does the Lux III have? I am hoping that it is a passive suspension like my SLS has. Thanks

Sorry I can't help you with the Lux111 suspension question, but I love the MagnaRide on my '06 Performance Sedan.

If you drive a lot (especially if you drive fast on the highway) and like crisp, good handling, slightly firm suspension, you would like the MagneRide.

The Performance suspension also includes speed sensitive steering, 18 inch wheels and 245x50x18performance tires. The faster you go the firmer the steering is and the more road feedback you get.

Both the Lux111 and Performance models have 4 channel StabiTrac. The Performance Sedan has more HP and a slightly lower gear for better acceleration and the speed limiter is set higher. Not that "I" would ever exceed the posted speed limit.

Superjim, before buying your Performance, did you test drive any "lower" models? How firm is firm when it comes to the ride? I rented a Lux I for a week last summer, and was very pleased with the ride. A little firmer would be fine. Quite abit firmer is not what I am looking for. Thanks

I rented a Lux11 for a week last year. I liked it also. It rode smoother then the Performance.

Part of the ride difference in the performance is the air pressure in the tires. I run 35 front 33 rear. Checked cold. When they heat up it is about 38 front 35 rear. I can lower it to 30 / 31 and it makes a big difference in the ride. I put up with the extra firmness for the sake of better handling.

I may lower the pressure for the next 2 or 3 weeks as I am not planning any out of town trips. See how much difference it makes. Probably quite a bit.

Funny that you would settle on 35 and 33. After a bit of driving I finally settled on 34 lbs all around. Not only is the handling better, as you said, but that should make tire temp is lower and improve tire life.

One other aspect regarding handling. My last 2003 (real DTS) and this 2006 Perf Level both have better brakes than my previous DTSes. They bring the car down from expressway speeds with much less effort. I suspect this applies to all models because as far as I know there are no differences in the brake system.

I agree about the brakes. I had to get on mine one time REAL HARD last week on vacation. Hard enough the anti-lock was working.

Topped a hill ... everybody was stopped in the middle of the interstate. Great stopping power. From 85 to 0 in a VERY short time. Was pretty impressed with how it stopped. No squealing tires... no gyrations... just a quick, straight, smooth stop. Just like a fine automobile should do.

Only problem is now everything that WAS in the backseat is now down in the rear floor. :) Oh well, I keep the carpets clean.
