View Full Version : What is it with guys? firmegirl93 04-01-04, 02:22 AM I have to admit that not everyone likes lowriders but come on. Today I had this guy come up to me and tell me that my cadi's ugly. It's still pretty much stock except for the rims and castle grille I just had put in. But my car is clean.....no dents, no dings, no chipped paint. Overall I would say the car is in excellent condition.
:cookoo: The thing that aggravates me most is that he was driving a beat up Ford Escort that didn't even want to start. I understand that everyone has their own opinions on what should and shouldn't be done to a car.
I don't know.....I'm just upset. To top it off, this isnt the first time that someone has told me something. Although, everyone that has come up to me to put in their two cents, were not driving a nice car. Maybe it's that I'm a girl. Come on guys.....stop picking on me. I've entered my car into two car shows and have placed 1st and 3rd in my class. What more can I do to prove myself in a male dominated area. 509Rider 04-01-04, 02:46 AM Dont listen to these stupid people, people ask me all the time why I painted my car orange, I tell them cause I can, but ya most of the people to run there mouths drive buckets, when I drive down the road I just like to be noticed whether they like it or not. Oh ya nice to see a girl with a bigbody:) This is outrageous. Pecking order implicates that if someone wants to insult you car, that they must have a nicer car. If this person was driving a heap, and insults your beautiful cadillac, that's just such a pathetic person.
It is my belief that the individual was jealous of your lovely car, and I would not let this person upset you in the slightest. Only he be so fortunate to have a car like yours and he would think differently.
People who "shoot the shit", contain opinions which out of the barrel of their mouth, are full of exactly what they utter. inmycadillac 04-01-04, 04:06 AM I have to admit that not everyone likes lowriders but come on. If I seen a female driving a lowrider, especially a Cadillac, I would definitely go out of my way to talk to her and compliment her on the car.
I'm sure uve heard how nice it is many more times. They're jealous of ya. Got any pics? (of your car:p ):) firmegirl93 04-01-04, 04:48 AM No pics yet......hopefully I'll get them up within the next week or so Nothing is more impressive than a woman who is into cars! ;)
STAT on those pics! HotRodSaint 04-01-04, 08:53 AM I don't think it's a guys and girls issue. It's one of those biased "I love all cars except {insert type here}" issues. I'm sure sport compact enthusiasts get the same thing from the same type of guy.
I happen to appreciate all cars, even lowriders and ricers.
If I ever had Jay Lenos money, I would have a white on white on white convertable 'old skool' '63 Impala lowrider in my collection. HotRodSaint 04-01-04, 08:54 AM Nothing is more impressive than a woman who is into cars! ;)
There is one thing more impressive. A young woman who owns a Fleetwood! :D elwesso 04-01-04, 09:36 AM Agreed.. People who cant appreciate all makes/models should be driving the beat up escort that wont start!
Some people dont see cars as a hobby, screw them! TimsToy 04-01-04, 09:59 AM My 2 cents... When someone driving a heap dishes your ride, just point to there's and... :histeric: BeelzeBob 04-01-04, 10:07 AM If the guy was driving an Escort and calling your car ugly - it's because he felt inferior.. I think that it describes this situation nicely. :) tru504187211 04-01-04, 10:22 AM Ralph - "Nothing is more impressive than a woman who is into cars! "
Nothing is more impressive than a woman who is into big bodies! Mussolini of the Outlawz said it best...Jealously and envy comin' from my enemies while I'm sippin on green men, front and back lacks of chevys on the roam, '96 big bodies sittin on chrome... tru504187211 04-01-04, 10:24 AM Nice point, Gothicaleigh. Exactly the reason why I put it on my opening Cadillac page...
http://younggotti.no-ip.org/Cadillac/intro.html FastCTS 04-01-04, 10:30 AM Don't let what other people say, get you upset, don't give them that power. I just tell people, it's my car and it works for me. Then look them in the eye and ask, can I have your phone number so the next I'm going to do something to my car I can call you and see if it's OK with you. That shuts them up. :) JJhomer83 04-01-04, 10:47 AM I get people who tell me my car is an old man's car its ugly why would you drive that boat. Then i tell them its my car my money i drive what i want you drive a pos i dont' give you shit about your car so don't give me shit about mine.
I would let it go. Also i know a lot of guys in my area think all girls should drive rice carts. Don't feel bad firmegirl, it is possible that he actually likes you and made that comment just to grab your attention... exactly the way a little boy would do it... remember those ones? well, a lot of us never mature.
As long as you are happy with your car, to hell with everybody else. Kansas-Cadillac 04-01-04, 11:37 AM What more can I do to prove myself in a male dominated area.
You only need to prove yourself to yourself. If you're happy with your car, that's what matters.
Just ignore rude people. There's no reason to stoop to their level and insult their junkers. There but for the grace of god go we...
BTW, almost every day I tell my husband how ugly his stock CTS is. :-) For the most part, people are petty and jealous. I've always prided myself on buying cars that looked good, either by styling or comfort inside--I've always gone for looks first.
So what has it gotten me? I get bashed by people who drive 10-year-old Explorers who say that my car belongs in the ghetto. Or it's too ricey, or whatever. (There are absolutely NO rice mods to my car, even if it is a Honda.)
And they only say it after I've spent a weekend detailing it and making the paint shine like it's showroom new, no swirls or scratches--mirror smooth.
When it's dirty, nobody even notices. everyone is different and likes different things... i usally just look at the person and laugh :D if that doesnt work... tell them to leave if they hate the car so much....
cheer up :)
all my friends are import enthusiast (including me)... when they first heard that i got a caddi, everyone responded... omg! why are you driving an old man's car? blah blah.... i replied that "if a car can convince a hardcore import enthusiast into buying it, it must have its reasons" they have to agree with me after seeing the way it looks and run ;) 1toycad 04-01-04, 02:21 PM I have to admit that not everyone likes lowriders but come on. Personally, lowriders are not my cup of tea. In So. Cal. lowriders are associated with a certain kind of person.
Having said that, however, I support a person's right to whatever ride he (or in this case she) feels most comfortable with. My oldest daughter drives a Benz wagon. She likes the fact that it is safe, fairly fast and roomy enough to carry all of her gear.
Some people mock her because she drives a "suburban mom" car. I tell her that they just envy her wheels. Same thing with you, that moron (on a Ford of all things!) envies your ride, hence his stupid comments. Or, on the other hand, maybe he was trying to hit on you...you know how inarticulate young men sometimes can be. 'Dissing your ride is like pulling your pigtails to get yoru attention...immature, unsophisticated and quite ineffective.
Enjoy your ride, have fun and ignore the idiots of the world. (And post pictures) lowscola 04-01-04, 02:39 PM I love to see women in nice cars, big cars/trucks, etc..and when I see a female in a Cadillac I love it even more. Some people say stupid things when they see something/someone they like or feel intimidated. I think a lot of men aren't used to women having nice/better/bigger cars. I just got my wife a big black expedition two weeks ago and alot of people, mostly men, ask why did she get that? can she handle that? thats gonna guzzle gas...
I would say that you "Big Balled" on main man just by driving your big caddy in his presence. You ever notice how most of the negative comments on cardomain come from people who don't even have cars? Which is why I don't have a guest comment section. RBraczyk 04-01-04, 04:13 PM I get people who tell me my car is an old man's car its ugly why would you drive that boat. Right on man. The funny thing is our "old man's car" goes faster than their "cool kid car". Gee, guess who gets the last laugh. Kansas-Cadillac 04-01-04, 07:57 PM I just got my wife a big black expedition two weeks ago and alot of people, mostly men, ask why did she get that? can she handle that?
I'm shocked. Maybe it's a Midwestern thing, but lots of women here drive SUVs. In fact, they've been the cars of choice for corporate wives, ladies who lunch, and soccer moms for 20 years.
Where American cars really shine is the SUV category. My '84 Grand Wagoneer is a "real" 4WD -- nothin' like Quadra-Trac! And it's a tank -- even the dashboard is metal. Yet, it has leather seats and power seats & windows. I also love my blue on blue '95 Suburban. In how many cars can you take 2 other couples to dinner tonight and haul a huge armoir tomorrow?
My husband hated SUVs and didn't understand why I wanted "a truck"... until I towed his Porsche home on a trailer. :p
If I could have only 1 car, it would be an SUV. DopeStar 156 04-01-04, 10:23 PM My lady love is the reason I fell in love with the luxury car scene. Good looking girl and an 86 Sedan DeVille, I am a very very happy man.:D | |
