I was just wondering if anyone here collected die-cast cars.

I collect (or accumulate) Hot Wheels mainly. I buy other brands if I like the car. I used to be a 'hard core' collector and try to get all the new stuff. But now, I just buy them if I'm at the store shopping for something else.

Hot Wheels has a few Cadillac castings, that someday I will try to photograph and place in the photo section.

Does anyone else collect Hot Wheels or any other die-cast brands? Are you hard core or casual collector?

I have a collection, but I'm not a collector.

When I discovered eBay a few years ago, I went on a mission to recover every matchbox car I ever owned from the 60's. That took about two months and maybe $200, but I got most of them. Now they're carefully wrapped with some tissue paper in a couple of shoe boxes. Someday I'll build a display case.

Kids, don't give away your good toys. Someday you'll want them back, and then someday you'll be able to sell them for enough money to retire on.

I do! Cadillacs and Firebirds mainly, with a smattering of other GM cars (H2, SSR..) and movie replica cars.

I have my Art & Science Cadillac collection and anniversary edition Trans Ams displayed in my office now. It's amazing how many people I don't know stop in just to check them out and play with them!

I'm waiting for the 1:18 V series CTS and the Sixteen to come out to crown off the group. I've also seen some smaller scale blinged out DUB series CTSs recently that looked kind of cool, but I managed to refrain. I'm going to need more book cases now as it is...

And yes, I echo the message of don't throw away your toys! Whenever my mom comes over and comments on how many toys I have, I just wag my finger at her and explain how it's all her fault for selling off my treasured youth a quarter at a time at garage sales, and how I'm just trying to reclaim my lost childhood. She stopped complaining after I threatened to pursue reimbursement. :D

Is it any surprise that my favorite toy cars when I was little were Majorettes? LMAO, you just made me think of that. I used to have a whole bunch of those things, I had the ones with the sirens and lights too, and a whole bunch of Micro Machines and probably about 15 full size Die Cast models. Theyre all gone now :(

I got about 55 1:18 scale cars, trucks, and motorcycles. I been collecting for about 10 yrs now. I mostly buy cars from the 60s, 70s, and hot rods from all yrs. My 2 favs is my '41 Willys Coupe Hot Rod and my '55 Chevy Hot Rod.I got them displayed in a huge glass case I had the HS kids build for me. Talk about cheap labor and quality work. I guess when their grades depend on it they do their best.

I was collecting the 1/43rd CART and F1 champs for awhile, as well as the Le Mans winners.

Do you have any redlines in the Hot Wheels collection?

If I knew now what I knew just 10 years ago, I would have invested lots mote into redlines. But I bought them for enjoyment and the investment was just a bonus.

My brother and I used to collect em when we were like 6. When we thought we were too cool for em, when we were like 10, we gave em all away:banghead: . We had like over 200 each!!!!!!! At that age we didnt really see it as collecting tho. We didn't take care of em etc. We mostly were just in competition w/eo to see who could get more. We had all sorts of tracks and carwashes, drive-ins, etc to use them with. I guess we mostly had Hot Wheels and some Matchbox.

Then we started collecting Baseball Cards...:D

Since redlines are getting near used car prices, I was thinking about starting a 1/43rd '50's and '60's sports/racing car collection of Corgi's and Dinky's. Even the rarest of the rare, are affordable compared to HW's.

does 3 count as a collection? hehe... i would like to have one, but for now, i'm not yet financially capable of having a collection. i'm, however, trying to recover all my matchbox/hotwheel cars from childhood... my parent used to spoil me with them, they are my only toys... i had hundreds if not thousand of them.

I collect (or did) 1.18 cars, and I have about 25 assorted ones, but I stopped because I ran out of shelf space!!

I need to build a new one sometime!

Do the Bullitt Mustang and Charger count? Next, when I have time I am doing all the American Graffitti cars in diecast. It's not as much work to put together the diecast compared to plastic, but rewarding nonetheless.

I have about 300 hot wheels I've been collecting since I was 7, only choosing the "real ones" none of those "Screaminator" or oddly named models which contain much plastic and physically impossible designs. And as well, I wish I had known the collectors models back then...

Although I do open all of mine and play with them...meh! Hope my kids have fun with them too hehe...along with my set of Star Trek cards...and antiquated taste in vehicles...and clothing...gosh I have an old soul. As they says on earth, c'est la vie.

That's one of the reasons I never bought any 1/18th scale cars. I have a hard enough time finding space to store the little Hot Wheels.

I've got a lot of Hot Wheels cars and other ones that size. Just like Spock I don't like the newer ones as much as the older ones that were actual models of real cars. A couple weeks ago I was out and saw a final run Auburn 852 that just happened to be at the front of one of the rows of HotWheels. It's chrome with a different paint job. I bought it because I have 2 of the original gold ones. That's the first new Hot Wheels I've gotten in a long time. Still have a big box of that orange track stuff for them and the 2 car launchers for it too. One with pull handles and one that works on batteries. Can't even remember when the last time was that any of it was out of the box.

I also have a couple plastic models that I've put together and mid size metal ones. 2 1:18 ones, a Superbird and a 57 Fury. I saw a few more in a ctalogue that I'm interested in that I'll probably order one of these days like a mid 70s Eldorado.

At one point, as an adult, I tried to find copies of cars I had owned. But it was too hard, so I gave up. Now that there's eBay, it might be easier.

My grandfather and dad loved cars. As a little girl, I had a convertible pedal car. British racing green with yellow top and pinstriping. My favorite toy car was a pink metal Jeep with a plastic top. It seemed big at the time, but it was probably about 9" or 10" long. I loved Jeeps, probably because I always watched Daktari. To this day, I *still* want a pink Jeep!
