Hi, I'm new here, I just bought a 70 Eldorado. I have a few questions if you guys could help me out I would appreciate it.

What should the timing be on a 70 500? Also where are the timing marks? I found the timing tab, but am having a hard time finding the mark.

The car doesn't want to start (turn over) when its hot, I have been going through and cleaning all the cable ends, and I checked the starter, it seems ok, but I may replace it anyways. Is there a common problem for this condition?

If you replace the starter consider visiting a local rebuilder that you can actually talk with. Ask for 8 volt windings on the rebuild. These give new hope to high compression long stroke engines. Alternative would be a gear reduction unit. Also watch for anything that makes fuel boil when the engine is hot. Fuel lines bent and laying on hot mainfolds are not good. Worn carbonator parts and high floats are not good either. As you have already figured out, initial timing is critical on your car. Big failure was sticky mechanical advance in distributor. Check it out carefully. The starter and flywheel you save may be your own.
