View Full Version : Legal question Benzilla 04-27-07, 11:01 PM How much is the usual fine for reckless driving?
Jesus, what an evening. My friend is in jail, and I should be too. Like a dumbass I made a slight U-turn into a highway in ramp, got pulled over, cops found a pipe and a knife. my friend is in jail for that right now, he was already on probation, and we got picked up in the next county. A violation of his probation, and he had failed his drug test last Wednesday. So he's f***ed, and I just hardly got away, I don't know how, but all I got was a citation for reckless driving, and their making me show up in court. So any idea how much this could be?
Yes, I f***ed up.:thepan: No points on my license other than this though. Jonas McFeely 04-27-07, 11:26 PM WOWOWOW. Sorry to hear that buddy. I got a citation for "careless driving" after rear-ending an Accord 2 years ago.It was $180 and 4 points. Wreckless driving im pretty sure,at least here in Florida,is an arrestable offense. I think you lucked out. Hope things get better for your buddy. Benzilla 04-27-07, 11:31 PM I really lucked out! I know, they should have gotten me for having the pipe in the car. oh, and my buddy was under 18 so he's getting placed in custody I just found out. Pretty much I ruined his life. Don't I feel great...
and reckless driving is six points. dkozloski 04-27-07, 11:48 PM In Alaska, reckless driving is ten points, license revocation, mucho jail time, thousands in fines. They put you so far back in the slammer they have to pipe the light to you and feed you with a sling shot. When you get out you are now subject to S.R.22 insurance, the assigned risk pool-$10,000/per year. Good luck! Wiseguy2 04-28-07, 12:04 AM Get a LAWYER. As soon as possible.
/thread Benzilla 04-28-07, 12:04 AM The thing is, it wasn't even really reckless driving.
f***. Although I'm pretty sure here it's just a fee. and I know it's only six points. Benzilla 04-28-07, 12:19 AM Should I get a lawyer? Wiseguy2 04-28-07, 12:22 AM Only Six points? Yeah, insurance skyrocketing plus all sorts of other crap. Here's one of my mantras on life.....:
If I can't afford to lose it, I insure it.
You know they can yank your license for that, right? You know in some states it's a criminal offense, right?
Get a Lawyer. Don't screw around. Honestly, no I wouldn't. You screwed up and are getting off fairly easy. I would take my licks and not do it again.
The thing is, I don't consider a knife or pipe to be wrong. Hell I carry a knife on me and I used to keep a pipe in my truck in case I had to pry something. Why would that matter much? Benzilla 04-28-07, 12:33 AM Not a pipe and in lead. a pipe as in smoking.... But it was my friend's and they said they wouldn't charge me with that because I didn't know it was there. (umm, yeah.)
And it shouldn't even be reckless driving, I pulled slightly into an on ramp to turn around. but they think I was avoiding a roadblock. that's why they sent it that high. I just want to stay out of jail.
screw the pigs! this isn't right! dkozloski 04-28-07, 12:33 AM Your friend is a scofflaw. You're a scofflaw. If you're lucky you'll both get enough jail time to straighten out your thinking. If you get off, I guaranty you'll both be back in the slammer for stupidity before you can say Jack Robinson. Benzilla 04-28-07, 12:38 AM Thanks.
I'm not an idiot, I just f***ed up. and I'll be damned if I go to jail for this shit, it shouldn't even be that charge, it doesn't fit. Oh, a bong, not a pipe, I see now. Even still, it's not illegal to own one unless there is something wrong in it. I would contest it then, if it was just that. Benzilla 04-28-07, 12:47 AM That's what I thought, it doesn't mean you use it for weed. But they didn't even charge me with that, so I'm just worried about the reckless driving charge. I might just get a lawyer to make it go away. So much money though.
I don't know. dkozloski 04-28-07, 01:08 AM The cops read you like a book. You can try to fool yourself but you can't fool the good old boys who deal with people playing the edge every day. Remember it's the dumbest 10% of the population that keeps getting into trouble over and over. They aren't picking on you; you stick out like a sore thumb. They know who you are and what you're likely to be doing. Your only chance is to straighten up and fly right. There's a huge percentage of the population that never deal with the police at all. They're called law abiding citizens. Watch the "Cops" program on TV. Have you ever seen them hassle an intelligent person? It's always drunks or idiots or people who are both drunks and idiots. Benzilla 04-28-07, 01:12 AM I said I've never gotten a violation before, where do you get that I keep getting into trouble? dkozloski 04-28-07, 01:38 AM Your first mistake was running with a lawbreaker. When you get stopped with him his stupidities reflect on you as a bad choice of associates. If you sleep with dogs you get fleas. He had a good reason to avoid a roadblock so the cops immediately figured you're aiding him. I was indicating that now the cops know who you are and who you run with. The next time they encounter him they'll be looking around to see where you are. If you get away clean please reflect on what could have been and choose some better associates. The bums just drag you down. Destroyer 04-28-07, 07:25 AM Your first mistake was running with a lawbreaker. When you get stopped with him his stupidities reflect on you as a bad choice of associates. Like he said, he just messed up. His friend seems to be the one with the real trouble and it looks like Benzilla is feeling guilty because of it. Anyway Benzilla, take care of yourself on this one. Your buddy would have got nailed sooner or later anyway, most of the blame is on him because of his prior behavior that you had nothing to do with. Are you serious? That is the most bullshit thing ive heard in a good while. I see why this thread was deleted now.Your posts are insane. I cant believe someone thinks like that.
Most of my friends smoke pot and party and have a good time. Does this mean, because i associate with them that i am destined for failure or a life of drug abuse? Am i destined to be in jail for the rest of my life? Are they destined for the same because they smoke a little pot and drink a few beers? No. I am a smart person and have a pretty good head on my shoulders. Im young and do things that young people do.I make mistakes. We all do.But to say Benzilla should be in JAIL? Youre nuts! The fact that someone could feel that way sickens me. You obviously think all laws are right and you obviously dont question that. That is sad. I would have thought someone of your age, with all of those years of experience would have a more open mind. I see why this thread was deleted now.
