View Full Version : Son of a...frickin cheap mags. Got both my thousand rounds of .223 ammo, AND my 10 rounder CA-legal magazines for my AR in the mail today. Attempted to load magazines, ammo doesn't go in them right. Attempted to install magazine, mag doesn't go into gun right. Attempted to eject magazine, had to push magazine down from inside of gun. Freaking bastards. Upset I am about all THREE of my 10 rounders, which are HARD to find, not being worth a damn. Sinister Angel 04-25-07, 09:26 PM F'ckit, cross borders and buy some 20/30 rounders. Hate it for you bro. I just received another 10 thirty rounders yesterday. Mil-spec, black, teflon coated goodness. :stirpot: ;) Benzilla 04-25-07, 11:38 PM "I could see he didn't want them, I knew I'd get stuck for the money"

"Stop with those f***ing drugs, their turning your mind into mush"
Sorry, you just reminded me of Goodfellas. :o
Just take 'em to Pittsburg, those guys always want guns.
I must be stopped.... http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/magazines/8448670-10.asp  http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/magazines/8448670-10.asp
IIRC they're just D&H mags with a Bushmaster floorplate. D&H make the mags for Bushmaster, DPMS, and a couple other popular names. D&H was a US military suppler for years. D&H are still stamped on the same dies as USGI mags but they don't supply to the US military anymore. All the same, they work great for me. Here's a linky to D&H mags for half the cost:

Or try NHMTG/Okay mags. Current production USGI contract mags for $12. These are THE SAME mags they supply the US military with. Linky:

Don't waste your dough on the following "aftermarket" company magazines. They're JUNK: USA, Triple K, Western Metal, Victor, Millet, ProMag, RamLine, and Eagle.
There;s .02 from your brother in arms. Thanks for the links Rolex. I usually order NHMTG from Eagle Firearms. But the 10 rounders that Spyder needs are a little more hard to find and the Bushmaster site is the only place I've run across them (not that I've searched that much for them). :D Poor Spyder. You're right. 10 rounders aren't the easiest thing to find. Several companies block off their 20 round mags which is teh suck. I've had good luck with CProducts in the past, but have heard since they've gotten busier their mags have suffered (caveat emptor). :hide: They've got great customer service though....if it doesn't work they'll replace it.

Pity points inbound. Where'd you buy those 10 rounders and who makes them? Bought 'em on Gunbroker from ...crap...not too sure. They're "National Magazines SKU R10-0015 Colt AR-15 10 Rounds Blue" on the packaging. I think that if I screwed around with them I'd be able to make them work. It looks like the right side feed lip needs some modification. The gunbroker dealer sent me the return info with no questions asked about them, so he seems to be an alright guy, but I have to find out if the shipping will be paid for too. Pain in my ass and I don't have a whole lot of time to screw around with it till this weekend.

Those are 'em. I had bought three. Thinking about returning two and keeping one to see if I can make it work. I dunno... I've got a bunch of thirty rounders but I don't want to be hassled at the range. You can OWN and USE high capacity magazines as long as you "owned" them before Jan. 1st, 2000. If they were manufactured before then, there's really no way to prove WHEN they were bought, so I need to have owned them prior to that day. Then no worries. Local shop has ten round mags...but I wanted to get 'em cheaper than freaking twenty five bucks each. With the shipping, the bushmaster one costs me thirty. Damnitt! I need a new, less expensive hobby. Mopars and weapons cost too much.
I should take up Chevy's and ...um...gardening. Excellent thread on AR magazines.

Ummm no...gardening is for the elderly. You just need a good 10 rounder. I'd suggest trying the CProducts mags. I've bought probably 20 or 30 of their 30 rounders last year and only had a problem with 1. The welds broke on one of their mags and they replaced it for free, so they're OK by me.
It also occured to me that without having a grip on your ARs the takedown pin detent and spring may not work. I'm still interested in how those ARs will work without the grip installed. Have you shot them yet? Inquiring minds and all....:D

I quoted from that very page in one of my earlier posts (see: mags to avoid). That's a great site for info, but there's LOTS of flaming going on over there. DILLIGAF 04-26-07, 11:29 PM Can you just block 20 or 30 rounders? When I've used mine to hunt with, with 10 round restriction laws. I put a chunk of balsa wood in the bottom of the mags.I bet I have a hundred mags,I stocked up after the US went to Iraq the first time.Think I paid 2 bucks apiece for factory 20 rounder colts. Those mags made in Parsons KS are good shit also! I know it's legal to block mags for hunting here, but I'm not sure about Cali. Some of their restrictions are......unique. :stirpot:
ETA: Rp if you ever want to let go of some of those 20 rd Colt mags I know someone who'd be interested in a couple. ;) Yea, Rp, I know somone too...
And no, blocked mags are not ok here unless they're permanently done.
Havn't fired them yet, no. Going on Sunday.
As far as I know, the takedown pin detent and spring are fine. I just don't have a safety on either of them. I'm working on that though. There's a few options out there for installing funky little things that allow the safety to be installed... Sinister Angel 04-27-07, 01:10 PM You should move to Michigan. We love our firearms ;) | |
